STAR WARS Force Lightning Effect | After Effects Tutorial

Here is a little guide:
- track finger tips
- create null and then edit target at tracker panel to null and hit apply (do that doe each finger)
- black solids have to be larger than the frame so the effect doesn't go in and out of the frames edges
- advanced lightning on top of black layers, 0 glow radius, 100 conductivity,
- Parent/link lightning black solid layers to 1-5 nulls (do this for each finger)
- Elipse shape layer, gaussian blur 40, attach to nulls 1-5 so they follow each finger tip
- glow effect on each one, as well as an exposure wiggle of (50,2)
- extra adjustment layer on top with curves effect and wiggle exposure (50,2)
- lastly adjustment layer with turbulent displacement (wiggle 50,9) (amount 10)

If the glow doesn't work, just go to FILE>PROJECT SETTINGS > COLOR > DEPTH and choice 32bpc

Is there any way for it to begin and end on the screen? For example can i get it to come out of someone's fingers and stop on a liughtsaber?
Change the mode for Advanced Lightning from 'Direction' to 'Strike'. From there, you can add an ending point, such as on the core of a lightsaber. Hope I helped!

Your tutorial is (fun, short, and easy) (bonus: no plug-ins/not a d-BAG) Your nailing it!. hollA!! good tutorial! so ive gotten pretty good at photoshop and just recently upgraded to trying to learn video editing. no complaints on your tutorial which is a super fun effect and well explained. I couldn't complete your tutorial which I used... to make jar jar binks throw me into a wall by the way... because I couldn't add the commands... Specifically when we clicked alt exposure then added the wiggle(50,2) command. I couldn't figure out how to do that. you cant enter the text directly next to the effect text and I couldn't figure out how to enter the wiggle command about 4 lines deeper as it appeared in your tutorial. as soon as (ALT-CLICK) became a thing we were doing I could no longer follow. hit me up if you have any time to let me in on how that works. I know its simplish, but im new to the game and that detail eluded me

hello ! why i can't add my curve or any effects on all the layers who are in tracking mode ? i mean you you just bring the curves effects on the lightning and change the colors but me i do it too and nothing happen. do you know why ? thank you

Hey, great tutorial. My son is trying to make some SW fanfiction, and is editing is AE. We tried to follow your tutorial step by step, but the problem is that the black solid layer covers the main clip. When we hide the layer the lightning also disappears. What might the issue be? We kind of get stuck at that point.
you have to set the black layer with the lightning to screen

What should I do if the lighting doesn't move at all when I set the conductivity state to 100, it tracks my fingers but I cant get it to wiggle or move around like lighting should
Did you keyframe the first frame to 0 and the last frame to 100?

bro, in 6:14 when you copy the "curves" settings to every layer. What shortcut do you do?
ctrl + d to duplicate and ctrl + c to copy then ctrl + v to paste

Neo Beis Try setting the blending mode to add. The button should be to the right of the name of the layer, but if it isn't you can right click on the layer name and click on blending options and hit Add
how to get this after effects for free?
Hey can you help me, when I put the glow effect on my solid layer the ratio of the glow it doesn't change, also when I put the curves after that the color stills the same, can you help me please???

Try putting it on the black layer and not on the solid layer
Try ticking on the Composite on Original, and then Layer > Blending Mode > Screen.

Same, glow isn't glowing at all barely even at max glow settings. There are like no answers anywhere online so if anyone finds a solution to the glow issue pls respond.
