    Do you prefer a gas motor over an electric trolling motor? I just have a min Kota and it gets me up and going.

    • @paoc.adventures
      @paoc.adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I don't use my gas as much as my electric. The only time I really put the gas motor is during the spring where the river is flooded and the current is high. My electric although can get me up river, is definitely slower and you're running it at max speed.

    Thoughts on fishing from canoes without stabilizers? They all seem so expensive.

    • @paoc.adventures
      @paoc.adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very doable, but if you plan to stand and fish it can get dicey. Or if you have another angler in the canoe while fishing, I'd go with stabilizers. There are DIY videos on making your own stabilizers. Way cheaper than buying them. Essentially, PVCs with crab floats.

      Made by KL Industries - which is the parent of Sun Dolphin. Sun Dolphin Scout SS is the home unit, Coleman purchased these and relabeled them as the SCanoe. Now you can find them at Field and Stream/Dick's as the 'Field and Stream Scout'.
      I have a SD Scout--SS that I've done mods to, and still have more mods to do...one day I'll put up a vid of what I've done to it.

      With just me, full gear, and stabilizers tucked in, I clocked around 10MPH. However, water spilled over from the bow. I could def. have shifted the weight back more to prevent that.

    Like your setup but $800 for the trolling motor? Why not one of the 30lbs motors for around $100? I mean at that price you could get an outboard and a small trolling motor. Just curious.

    • @paoc.adventures
      @paoc.adventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand. It was a tough pill to swallow forsure. But I wanted the features of a nicer remote trolling motor. It has GPS, Spot Lock, and Cruise mode. I looked into the other brands and they were asking for way too much for them.

    problem with a trolling motor like that on the front is that you have to have a canoe trailer to put it in the water because you are not going to haul that canoe by hand and that canoe wheel hauler will be almost useless with that much weight on it, which means using that setup on a lake you gotta push in without a boat ramp pullup will be almost impossible.

    • @paoc.adventures
      @paoc.adventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been in a few situations where the parking of a lake does not allow trailer parking. I scale all the way down to just a fishing finder, battery, and trolling motor. The dolly works fine in those situation. Launching is not as bad as taking out. It does take extra time.
