I just got my radiant emerald pair today from snkrs and I absolutely love them. Traction was GREAT! I had the original kobe 8 christmas and I like the protros more.
@@jjoshuaoliva i have the halos, and the solid rubber outsole was rlly good out of the box. it doesn't feel like "sticky" like the lebron 20's for example, but theyre still very good. super good bite, but it doesn't feel like im walking in like dried juice or something. idk if that makes sense or not.
I have the halos as well and the traction is great but the ankle support was real stiff and took a few hours of sessions to break in now they fit like a glove
My green glow Kobe 8s are falling apart too! I took the insole out and put it in a UA pair of Kobe 8s and legit same shiii lol. Waiting on those Venice beach joints and I want them to do the pit viper colorway.
the kobe 8s are his best shoes. everyone, especially nowadays, will say the 5s or 6s, and while i dont disagree because those are definitely up there too, but the 8s just take the cake. at the time they were the lightest, had great traction, great cushioning, and because of the simple mesh design they could slap any graphic they wanted and all the colorways ended up being fire, and the court feel was unmatched. the only downside was longevity. the lunarlon just didnt last and bottomed out. but damn, at the time the 8s were the best shoe to play in period. i havent played in the protros yet, but the fact it has react cushion now is just OP. the extra cushion in the upper though i dont know. i liked the super thin tongue in the og even though it always didnt stay up and slipped to the side. i do like a comfy tongue though too so maybe the protros did something great even if it sacrificed the weight.
I don't mind the OG tongue because I usually wear a pretty thick hoop sock, but if I get a pair of protros, we'll see if I like the thick tongue or not....
Just to provide an optimistic take, I personally like that they didn't change much in the cushion department. The design language of Kobe 8 (and Kobe 9) is to be a light, quick, and straightforward shoe. Putting mindblowing zoom or zoom x might take that away from the legacy of the original Kobe 8. I get why people would complain about it especially because of the price/value, but when it comes to retaining the same feel with slight improvements, I think they did a good job.
Interesting take, there are many ways to think of the protros in general, Nike is trying to give old hoopers some throwback nostalgia but also something new for the new hoopers with added tech that’s more relevant for modern hooping, but one think for sure is we should be thankful they releasing Kobe’s period. Not thankful for the resellers making it impossible to get tho, I doubt Kobe would approve Rest in Peace
@@user-nj4hf8kz5z Yeah, I'm also against the reselling part. I don't give a damn about Jordan's being resold because I'm pretty Jordan is okay with it. Like business wise, it creates more demand on every release. But with Kobe's, the guy doesn't even want to release retros before. He's only willing to do so if they come with performance updates. And with that being said, it's clear that he wants to re-release older Kobe models for more than nostalgia. He wants people to use his shoes for basketball. The resale industry kills it.
@adamkanizsai2990 I'm talking about retros and how did you even conclude I'm a Jordan hater? 💀 I'm just saying Jordan's retro lines are purely business centric. It's not even a dig bro.
@adamkanizsai2990 And I never even said Kobe's were hyped back then or anything about his line being better than Jordan's. I just talked about what Kobe wanted for the line to be known for versus how his line is being received currently after he passed. Y'all really just hunt for people's comments and make it about one player versus another when it's not even about that.
I struck out. Still sucks stock is limited. I thought these would have a higher stock due to the colorway not being that impressive honestly, but nope still low stock for both colorways. So I hope to get a pair at some point during a future drop.
Heeey the shoe weighs more cuz people were telling nike back then that the kobe 8's didnt last outdoors so they added 0.5 mm on rhe sole its thicker thus heavier. Its also the reason why you feel higher on the ground
My true to size is 12 but all of my Nikes are size 13 . I have the Kobe 7 wolf greys (worn out) that are size 12 and they fit but they’re very snug idk how I played in them that was 10 years ago lol but I ended up getting the Kobe 8 protro in size 12.5 to be safe and they do fit but man the shoes are so stiff and still pretty snug , I’m hoping once I break them they feel better but do y’all think I should’ve went up a full size to 13? Any advice ?
I’m having this same issue, Im a true size 10.5 and I got a w on these without knowing how they would fit so I’m looking to get rid of and size up but they fit so tight that I feel even a size 11 would be tight so I’m trying to figure out should I go with a 11.5 My old Kobe 8s are a 10.5 and they fit perfectly which is crazy 😂 but I can say that in the original Kobe 8 they have less padding in the inside and also with the new protro tongue it’s padded so it’s added compression to your foot which is causing the shoe to fit more snug and not to mention the drop in midsole is thicker as well so that’s my theory.
Yeah the added tongue padding and thicker insole definitely makes the shoe very snug . The more and more I’m wearing them I feel like going half a size up from my true size is the best option cause they fit well but the shoe itself is still very stiff . Like I’m wearing them casually . I feel like going up a full size would be a mistake if you’re gonna hoop in them. Cause then you’ll risk your heel slipping in my opinion. I also have a wide mid foot when I press down so if you don’t and you have a normal narrow foot maybe the half size up will be best for you too hoop , and a full size up would be more for comfortability but I’d be careful doing the full size up to use for hooping cause I’d be concerned with heel slippage.
@@andyfernandez6902fax bro I’m thinking the same, I plan to hoop in them so I’m confident that with going half size up, once I break them in on the court they should fit perfectly. Thanks for the tip 💯
The best basketball shoe I ever had was the Kobe 8, but I played with them outdoor. Literally destroyed the traction and by far was my most used shoe. I regret using them outdoor and I miss them every day, Kobe 8 pythons

Kobe 8 protro drop in midsole is disappointing. Shoe as a whole is much better. They needed to give these the full length zoom under lunarlon or react.
That numbers pattern design feels lazy and looks tacky IMO. Love the actual colors chosen, however the availability (or lack thereof) makes this shoe a flop. It don't matter how fire a shoe is if there's none on the shelf.

NONE of the Protros perform or fit as good as the originals. The original 5s are one of the best performing hoop shoes ever, and the Protros 5s are awful.
It’s funny how now all of a sudden the Kobe’s are everyone’s favorite shoe, but back then they were almost too low and light to play in 😂💀

You’re so lucky. I’m hoping to get some of the other color ways this year. I’m saving cuz these were kinda iffy but still clean.

im still hoping that you would get a chance to have a pair of kobe 6 protros, that shoe is so hard to get and prices are way more high
Love the honest reaction and disappointment over the weight. 3oz is a huge difference. Me being a size 13 its probably closer to 4oz in my size.
