  • The Barnsley singer and film documentarian Dave Cherry and the Sheffield journalist Andy Kershaw give an alternative view of the South Yorkshire's mining past.
The valuable NCB tax payers land where the collieries were situated is now in the private sector.
Dave has a theory that it was planned in 1977 and the miner’s strike of 1984 was a ‘red herring’ in order to close the pits. He believes this left no men, or union, and then later the valuable miner’s pension fund would be grabbed.
Using archive and drone film Dave concentrates on the 4 pits in the Barnsley Worsbrough valley. He traces what has happened to the area that now has retail parks, distribution centres and houses where the collieries were.
