    Thank you!
I don’t do this kind of thing , like respond to a video
but when I watched Tracy perform fast car a few weeks ago at the Grammys
    My heart melted!
I watched several videos of people trying to understand this song
    Most people don’t get it
The lyrics are more important than need anything else in the song
And I appreciate that you listened to the story

I can't listen to this song anymore, it rips me apart. I was a high school teacher in a poor area of Oregon. This is the story of so many of my students. When she says she was able to save a little bit of money working at a convenience store, I break down. That's all many of my students could aspire to do, just work at a convenience store. They came from horribly dysfunctional families, so poor that $200-$300 was a fortune. All they wanted to do was be someone, be someone, just hoped for better. Oh, man, and there hundreds of them in this town..

This is one of the greatest modern songs ever written. It's cool you dig this. I remember growing up in the 90s hearing this...hearing it as an adult is a completely different experience. Nice reaction! 😀

A song like this is worth a thousand and one “Call Me, Maybe”s, “Love Story”s, or “Red Solo Cup”s.

Judging by all the Boston gear behind you , you might like to know that she was a busker, while I think she was going to Tufts. She played in downtown crossing and on the MTA in the 80’s. I saw her while I worked there in 85 86 I think ..

      Criminally underrated.

She is not underrated by anyone who knows her music. She's highly acclaimed and respected. She stopped performing for many years, so lots of people are unfamiliar with her work. Since "Fast Car" was re-introduced by Luke Combs, the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, almost reverent. See Wikipedia, Career and Nominations/Awards.

Our music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s was just so much better. I feel sorry for you young people who didn’t get to grow up to this wonderful music. Our generation wasn’t perfect, but our music was happy, had passion, and LOVE. That in turn made people happier, made people wanna love each other more. Was it perfect? No it wasn’t, but back then we loved each other more, because the music that flooded the our airwaves made us want to.

I hate when people say this shit. I'm 41 and there are brilliant songs put out every day if you bothered to listen. Fuck off with the back in my day shit.

Best song ever. Luckily, you found it. It is her "lesbian anthem." It's about mom left, because of her sexuality and her trying to escape from having to take care of drunken Pop. ALL of us have lived parts of this story. I learned to play it on acoustic, but it starts the water-works immediately...

    • @impishsongster333

The song was written about people she saw growing up around her. Its NOT about HER family.
In the song, her mom left because her dad was a drunk, and her mom didn't want that life. "She wanted more from life than he could give".
There's nothing about lesbians in the song. Wtf? There was no reason to bring it up. Get over it. Do better.

Dude, quit stopping in the middle of verses. Pause between verses.
