Mate, definitely an unfair comparison. I noticed when driving the Lotus you were revving the car to near its red line but when driving the Alfa you were short shifting.
The Alfa Romeo is not around 1100 kg's mate, it's around 900 kg's...

It's around 900kg IF you exclude all the liquids. My car magazine of choice has measured a weight of 1024 kg for the regular 4C (with roof, european/german version)
Yea, still quite a bit heavier than the Elise which is crazy considering the Elise has no carbon fibre parts like the 4c. Especially the S2s which come in at around 860kg, even with aircon etc. S1s are under 800kg.
In the US it is sold with a 200kg extra of chassis reinforcement, to hold their fat ass while they keep eating trash... for the rest of the world the 900kg version is enough
I own a alfa and today i drove a exige 350........the sound was a huge letdown.
I expected a lot more. Also the perfermence wasnt that much of a diffrence.
Alfa 4c is classic italian beauty for connoisseurs such as Jeremy Clarkson. Lotus Exige is just cool toy for kids like this on the this video.
You have to compare it to a 4C Coupe with full spec. I own a 4C with lots of tuning and full spec and an Exige S roadster with kompressor tune and lots of other upgrades too, and I personally think they are on the same level of performance, yet feel completely different.
I have one too, and I think with the power steering point around corners, he just needs to get a bit bigger and he will like it more!

it's amazing how much this is, indeed, an 350 starts at around 70k i believe and the 380 somewhere under 90. I mean _how damn expensive_ are those options?
Andfor a bit over 60k you could get a elise cup 250, which also would destroy the 4C i guess. And alone its diffuser is worth it.
who the fuck cares about the specs, it's not a 675LT with MSO treatment wich will worth when you sell the car. It's a fucking lotus... this car is the price of a 991.2 911 carrera wich is faster and more comfortable than this car...

If I'm not mistaken, it's a single clutch gearbox (automated manual?)... not a double clutch.

A lot of reviewers don't like that gearbox though
Of course the 4C has ABS, and if you add 35K in options you can have "alcantara" everywhere. The 4C has less rattles and noises it is better finished and its more comfortable.The lotus looks great and has a lot more power, but the 4C should be compared with an Elise, same power and price range.

Lotus steering compares well with any car, Ferrari, MacLaren, you name it so no one will be really surprised about that comment.

I like the S2 and S3 models better. New Exige's rear are ugly as hell.

For the record the Alfa is very sensitive to tyre pressures. In the manual it says the fronts must be 26psi and the rears 29psi. If they are not right it's all over the place. Buy some alfaworks spacers for the front end and it's all good.
If the 4C is really half of what you paid for a Lotus (i doubt it), than choosing the alfa is a no-brainer for me. Black paint, tune, maybe some interior upgrades since you think its to plasticy.

and i highly doubt that the 4C has no ABS. Because you need this in most european countries and i never read about the lack of such anywhere.
Of course the Alfa 4C has ABS, and ESP as well. You can turn off the ESP, I'm not sure whether this includes ABS.
ABS is mandatory on newly-registered cars in Europe since 2004.

Yep, same goes for Caterham and other Kits based on the Lotus Seven. And they are road legal in Germany, same goes for cars from Ariel and Zenos , not sure about the other ones though ;-)
Sci4n Probably for these semi-artisan automotive manufacturers in the UK rules are different, but not for Alfa Romeo 4C which has as standard ABS, ESP, ASR, Brake Assistant, MSR, CBC. He should know it.

For the look, I feel the 4C is sleeker overall. The Exige looks great, but it has that look like it is trying too hard to get noticed. And I feel that does not date or always come across well.

My only problem with the lotus is the build quality. Its always felt a bit cheap. Nice looking car though.....but not for that price tag.
I just sold my 2013 Lotus Evora S with 15k miles on it because it was a huge piece of crap. Clutch problems constantly, clutch master 2 times in under 4000k miles, clutch slave, windshield wiper motor, tail light burnt out, door closing sensors. In 2 years I spent over 7000 in just repairs. I am looking to buy an Alfa 4C and have seen zero negatives except for a transmission reprogram.
Agree, the 4C has proven to be bullet proof. Prices are climbing since they stopped production.

A comparison with the Lotus Elise would have been the only real like for like comparison. Not a good review by any stretch, evidenced by numerous comments. Lacks objective critical insight.

Interesting, my gather is that this is really about the price difference, the higher priced car, the Exige, is what you get for the money, while the Alfa 4C is what you get for the money. So, if the 4C was given all the upgrades, improvements with money applied, then it would be on the same level as the Exige, while if the Exige had was downgraded with less performance minded parts, with money removed, then it would be on the same level as the 4C and the feel would be the same.
That Exige is gorgeous. Anyone who calls Lotus cars ugly, show them this.
Great comparison, good and understandable arguments. You've done a brave choice with the lotus, since you could have bought so many others for the money. But the sound of your lotus is just so much better than most of the V8s and even V10s from my point of view.

Yeah, exhaust wins on lotus just great sound. You should run a smaller pulley and tune it. Always more on the table. Also needs a cold air intake for some supercharger whine.

Kind of an unfair comparison. Alfa Romeo 4C is more comparable to the old 4 cylinder Exige S, where the Sport 380 would be more comparable to a Rossion Q1 or Noble M400, but I understand comparing two current production cars, I just don't think they're all that comparable other than the basic concept of a light weight exotic sports car.
You know it may be a good video when you spend all your creative energy on the video and have none left for a title, so you call it TITLE

You should have compared the 4C to a regular Exige or Elise SC. I own both, a 4C coupe and a Lotus Elise SC. Love them both in their own particular way....very similar....

Awesome vid Seb!! might be my lack off googling abilities, but does the 380 come with an automatic option? And if so, is it as good as the one in the Alfa, and would you argue its worth it, if the low weight and manual concept is not first choice. :)
The Lotus has a Sequentual gearbox that is meant to give you a more of a supercar experience and is meant to be shifted without using the clutch , you can shift it with the clutch but its more fun the other way
Lotus is a longer car , wheelbase and body . The Alfa looks kind of silly with its as wide as a Lamborghini but short as a Jeep looks .
Be cooler to see a 4C Spyder compared to an Elise Cup 250. In Australia at least, the 250's only about 5% more expensive. Or even a sport 220 which is about 15% cheaper. You've more or less driven those elises yeah? How did the 1.6L elise feel even compared to the 4C?, granted much lower price, but also quite fairly lighter than the 4C

No conversation on the tires.. his first time in the Alpha it takes a while to get to know the car. well trust the car.the power of the alpha was above his abilites to drive you could hear the tires coming lose and he didn't even notice.. Maybe in ten years he will learn enough to give a competent description of what he is driving.

could have gotten an audi r8 v10 for the price of that exige, Seb? granted, I'm sure with the 380 your car is much more personalized than any r8 could be for the same price.
My 4c launch edition looks way more luxurious than that Lotus.... All leather door and dash sills, alcantara on steering wheel, etc... I also owned an Elise.
The exige really impressed me in this video.
Never really liked the paint on your Exige on photos, but in this video next to the Alfa it looks amazing. The 4C's paint looks a bit flat in the sun, while the Exige has a nice flake in it

Your road choice is silly. Point and shoot to hairpin bends, is no test at all. So you have no idea what the 4C can really do. It's an immensely capable car, if driven by a proper driver, on good roads. Also your data is wrong.
It's not clever to disrespect a car, because you chose a different one. I have a 4C. It's amazing! But I won't slag off any Lotus. They're just different!
