On the small scale(individual) battles Vice Admiral Cole from Halo would kick Thrawn's ass 8 times out of 10. In an outright war, near the beginning Cole would still kick Thrawn's ass, but as it progress and if Thrawn can get his hands on some art and media from earth, he could develop plans to take us down. Of course if extinction is our fate if Thrawn wins, we will just keep fighting to the last man regardless of any plans Thrawn makes.

According to Disney canon, Thrawn and Anakin met during the Clone Wars. Thrawn also recognizes Vader as Anakin, but eventually realizes that the man he knew then is truly dead, in mind if not body. There are also hints that Thrawn was Force-sensitive as a child. But since the Chiss Ascendancy didn’t know how to train Force-sensitives, the ability went away during puberty. The Chiss use Force-sensitive kids as navigators in the treacherous Unknown Regions.
+BOOFIRE191 is also doing this with Thrawn being allied with Earth in his Earth in Star Wars series. You guys should do a coop with him to animate Earth in Star Wars.

Any story involving him, well the protagonists need to win, as in every story so at some point you won't be able to make thrawn into a super duper commander without him utterly decimating the rebels and having no story to tell, or having the rebels destroy him easily like an everyday villain, I think SWR did a good enough job portraying just how dangerous he can be without him ending the story on episode 1.

Rogue one at least had a purpose when it killed off everyone, and yeah, the film didn't need to be made but oh well, and that was to get the death star plans. For rebels? It was a story of a small band of rebels and jedi trying to survive against the empire. Killing them all off would just make for a boring story.
Thrawn will win, he's a tactical master mind. The empire is about to suffer a massive blow. Thrawn will manipulate the entire events that is gonna occur, from what we know. He has his ships, an old dreadnought and a YT-1300 freighter. He's most likely gonna bait the Star destroyers with the dreadnought then do a slip space jump right behind or close to the enemy fleet out flanking them. He may employ a different strategy but this seems logical as if you know you're imperial navy the star destroyers carry a lot of forward firepower but lose out on their rear guard. If thrawn gets his ships behind the enemy Star destroyers he can cripple the enemy swiftly.
Here is what would ACTUALLY HAPPEN if Thrawn joined the Rebels (Disney Cannon) He would have never joined the Empire or only joined them just to betray them later on (Probably the former) He would have either joined the Rebels early on or created a mercenary/criminal/pirate organization that is allied to them He would have used the HoloNet (which nobody uses effectively) to leak the Empire's crimes towards the public He would have used Elite Droids in his private army and navy The Empire falls in just a few years after Thrawn has intervened Thrawn becomes an influential Senator within the New Republic The New Republic uses a combination of Volunteers, Free Clones and Droids in its army First Order and other Imperial Remnants would not exist Thrawn introduces lots of technological progress and socioeconomic reforms Thrawn uses cybernetics and gene-enhancements to make himself immortal Star Wars reaches Culture level and the Force becomes insignificant The End

Pineapple lord Thrawn already knows Vader. There are some ground there for him being so bold... but Thrawn knows he's to valuable. He's proven himself too much... therefore Vader might actually be willing to listen rather than rip him in two. Remember, they both even agreed that the Death Star isn't a good idea too. And for Thrawn's knowledge, he has had a very different upbringing. Plus he's a Chiss, known for their easy learning and intelligence.

Vader is no slouch either when it comes to military strategy and he have a direct brutality to his fights that are hard to counter, and Palpatine are definately Thrawns Equal when it comes to politics, the two of them together can be quite fearsome, and lets not forget that most of the other 12 Grand Admirals are no slouches either. If he is to win it is either a knockout blow or a campaign of conviction to get defectors and chaos, through i do believe Palpatine is too good politically for that to succeed.
I think you're getting the perceptions of realism and idealism backwards. Thrawn is a realist, yes, but the rebels are realists too. Palpatine is the idealist. But Thrawn fights for the emperor the same way Stonewall Jackson fought for the Confederate States, he doesn't agree with everything the higher ups say, but will engage to achieve a higher goal. Sith are governed by their passion, which is giving in to an emotional response, that's an idealist method, because it's based on an ideal perspective, regardless of the reality. The rebels are realists because they understand the give and take of life, and understand what works and what doesn't. A slave system of government doesn't work, shutting down communication and debate doesn't work. And hence why they fight harder and better than their idealist Imperial counter parts. They think harder and work harder, both communicating these ideas, keeping them and tolerating conflicts among the ranks. Idealism doesn't allow for this because it's emotionally based. It can't allow free communication because with it comes criticism. An answer you're never meant to question makes a community mentally lethargic, and they don't try as hard. And this is why Thrawn vs the rebels is so fantastic, is because it's a realist fighting other realist. You likend Thrawn to Batman? Well Thrawn vs the rebels is Batman vs superman. Or better, since this is the great galactic civil war, the Union vs the Confederate States of America. It's America realist fighting American idealist. I like the effort you put in to these custom scrnarios, however I'd like to point out that if there was a recording device within the stronghold housing Palpatine's throne room transmitting recorded sounds 24/7 it would have been highly susceptible to detection by people monitoring the facility before the meeting between Palpatine, Darth Vader, and Admiral Sloan even occured. This would mean a great setback for Thrawn and considering his intelligence he never would have considered sticking a transmitter in Palpatine's throne room in the first place. The ability to detect transmissions is proven to be true for example in one of the CW episodes when droids monitoring the main console aboard the Malevolence are able to detect and locate the source of un-authorized transmission from within the ship. And if anything, the situation with the monitoring technologies could only have improved by X ABY. Also, Emperor Palpatine and Vader easily could have sensed with the force a transmitter in one of the statues especially since they were highly suspicious of Thrawn's disloyal behavior towards the Emperor by the time of the meeting.
Thrawn a few tie squads of tie defenders 5 star destroyers and an executor class super star destroyer and some other frigates and corvette and he could destroy almost any fleet
