Wow, my grandparents (mother’s parents) are both from Sicily. In 2018 I got to go there and visited my grandmother’s town. I went to the town hall where a gentleman took out old records of my ancestors going back into the 1700’s. It was incredible and gave me a sense of family history. Driving through the hilly countryside all my grandmother’s stories about her childhood and home came to life. Thank you grandma for your rich stories and taking time to tell them to me.

Congrats on moving to the Puglia region! I am an American and I too lived in Puglia 40 years ago when I was in the USAF. I lived in the region near Brindisi in a town called San Vito. Living in Italy gets under your skin. It's an incredible experience. The people, the food, the culture, the pace of life... I spent 2 years there and the memories are still fresh. I often feel "homesick" for it. I hope that you enjoy every moment!
I'm an American who has spend a lot of time in Italy (married to a Campano from near Salerno) and Puglia is THE BEST. Such a beautiful region. I've been to Trani (gorgeous) but spent more time further south in the Salento. I hope you get to go to Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, Santa Maria di Leuca - everything. It's all breathtaking. Delicious food, wonderful beaches, great weather, relatively few American tourists, and friendly people. The Pugliese dialect is amazing, and in some towns the dialect is even based on ancient Greek!

Hello katie, nice to know that you really love Italy. I am italian and I love my country. I live in Sicily, the island in the etreme south of Italy. I have never been in Puglia, I know it is a great region and in some aspects is very similar to Sicily. We are famous for our great variety of food expecially for sweets (for example cassata, cannoli), we have also many particular wines. I have seen some of your video so I strictly recommend you to come here to visit this region, maybe when the Covid situation will be better. Good luck with your work and your online career! Best wishes
My family is from Trani, actually one of my ancestors is buried in San Nicola Pellegrino. When this terrible situation is over, I’ll be glad to show you around Ravenna, my city.
Sometimes it really seems that foreigners are more able to appreciate the beauty and quality of life in Italy.. of course it is also a question of being financially independent, many Soputhern Italians decide to emigrate up North, but the lifes down in Southern Italy is just magic
Thank you for answering my question! I love living vicariously through your amazing life. I'm now a Patron of yours too. I don't know what took me so long.
I have applied for recognition of my italian citizenship in the Miami consulate Oct 2019. I’m still waiting. It takes longer here. I have looked around Puglia and love it. Actually I looked in many regions. I will be moving to Italy after I receive my citizenship and virus is gone ... Puglia is special.
I'm glad you're having a good time, it kinda makes me sad to see how wonderful is Italy but at the same time how difficult is to live here (still, if you can afford to live here, this is a great country); anyway, when this pandemic outbreak will end, I'd suggest you to travel across all Italy, it's quite small but it has really a lot of places to visit (almost every province have one thing or two to see), and I think you'll really like it. Saluti da Venezia
You randomly popped in my suggested list on YT, i curiously started watching your vids, because it's a nice insight of Italy, and BAM, at 7.43 you start saying that your ancestors are from the small town of Tursi, my mother's birthplace. I don't find vids about that experience, so if you didn't, PLEASE, do make a video of that experience! :D
Thanks for the videos. I am considering moving to Italy or at least a stay. My grandfather came to the US via Ellis Island, now I want to go back. :) Another American wants to live in Italy!
Sono contentissimo che hai preso la cittadinanza! :D :D :D Benvenuta in italia!! Se ti capita passa dal Trentino è una delle regioni più belle secondo me!
Hi I'm Anton, I live in Puglia too, near Trani. I think you must visit the saltworks (saline) of Margherita di Savoia. They're the biggest SALINE of Europe and second in the world. Maybe it would be interesting for you to know the producing process of the salt. Margherita di Savoia it's distant just a few kilometers from Trani 😁
Exactly! Furthermore, in Margherita di Savoia is planted the Cipolla Bianca di Margherita (white onion of Margherita). It's a IGP product. It means "Indicazione geografica protetta".

Really happy to see your citizenship process is getting through. It's really nice to see someone enjoy the perks a small city may offer, between a sunny walk along the sea and a walk to the best "panificio" for the most tasty Taralli in town, moreover all of these are quite cheap. Keep your nice work ahead and spread your contagious happiness in the city, the contagious virus have made many people less content.
This is a great channel! I am in process of gaining my dual Italian citizenship as my father was born and raised as a young man in Italy and my mother’s grand parents on both sides immigrated from Italy. Just found your channel thanks to my recommandation feed. As a Frenchie with Moroccan origins who always wanted to move to / live in Italy one day this video gave me some home back. Many young Italians have told me not to move in because it's hard to find a job there but hey, some people are really interested in the Japanese, Korean or Chinese culture, some by the American culture, well I am with the Italian culture, so why not give it a try at least ? I was supposed to be an exchange student for a year in Milano but due to personal issues and then the pandemic my plans have been cancelled. Now I'm studying another course which doesn't allow exchanges abroad. I was starting to feel like giving up but thanks to this video I might just not. Thank you for making it :) Salve agli amici dall'altro latto delle Alpi. :)
"Why not give it a try" is exactly what I thought! No regrets, right?! I hope you have renewed opportunities to come to Italy in the future. Grazie per aver guardare questo video :)

Found your channel a week ago or so...love your perspective and uploads. We were looking at the kids possibly getting dual citizenship via their mom and maternal grandmother, but I don't think that will work because my wife's grandmother was actually born in Connecticut and moved back to Caltanisetta, Sicily when she was about 3, and then returned to CT after the war (THE war...ie., WWII) and married a fellow Sicilian from Caltanisetta also, but great grandpa, Giuseppe/Joe, gave up his Italian citizenship before accepting US citizenship, so unfortunately, I think our kids are cutoff. But, we will try other paths to Italian citizenship, how do we say there are other ways to skin the cat in Italian? ci altri modi de "skin/cut" il gato????
Back to Sicily If you have *italian ancestors* there is good chance always, it matters relatively that your wife's grandmother born in Connecticut (sure, just if his parents were italian). Italy have the "jus sanguinis" not the "jus soli", follow Katie's suggestion and good luck. 😉
Eggs in the fridge are also an Italian thing ... all the fridge I ever saw, even the 50+ years old one my grand had, came with their own jig for 6 eggs. PS Italians are extremely "campanilisti" (which apparently from a web dictionary can translate into either "parochialism" or "campanilist" ) so don't sweat it when other italians have their strong opinion regarding whether or not you're experiencing the "TRUE" Italy. That's just the way we are lol. PPS Trani, as any other city/town/village, has its own rival city nearby ... just ask your italian friends the next time xD
I was surprised to discover that you are American! Your demeanor and attitude somehow led me to believe you were Canadian. Can't quite put my finger on the why, though. Anyways-- spero l'Italia ti tratti bene. Il tuo italiano è impressionante per essere qui da così poco tempo. :)
Through DNA, I just found out who my grandfather is, and he was from Southern Italy. I had no clue I had any Italian blood, and I am so excited to learn all about my roots.
i'm italian and it's so greatful to see all the tiny things (the landscape or the sociality of the people) of my country that as an italian person, I don't see (perche' le do per scontato o non le do il giusto valore). moreover there is a DISPREZZAMENTO nei confronti del sud italia da parte di chi vive in nord italia, therefore seing a pearson who try to desribe southern italy in a such beautiful way is for me so EMOZIONANTE.
Ciao Alex sono del nord, ti assicuro che da parte mia c’è solo amore per il sud ma soprattutto per le persone del sud, che considero miei fratelli! ❤️🇮🇹
Bellissimo video! Io sono pugliese, vivo a Brindisi. Amo la mia terra. Saluti. Beautiful video! I'm from Puglia, I live in Brindisi. I love my country. Greetings. :)
about Tursi (quirky moment!) Here in Genoa there is a palace called "Tursi Palace" because a former owner was the aristocratic family Doria. A member of the family was awarded in the XVI centrury by the Spanish Emperor whit noble titles with included the fief of Tursi. This is the reason for the name of the palace. The family owned Tursi until XVIII century (we have to admit: it seems they weren't some of the best south feud owners ...) Now "Palazzo Tursi" hosts the city council, Comune offices, a local police station and a museum.
omg I just saw your ancestors are from Tursi! I almost cried knowing that someone living in America because of ancestors' choices, came back to their places and actually saw them. It's hard to explain the feeling.
I’m planning to go to the city of my parents birth, Bari. I have everything I need but how does one establish residency? How to find an apartment from the US?
Hi Angelina! The Italian Passport handled all the residency stuff for us. That’s where they really proved their value in our opinion. I’d recommend reaching out to them (use my discount code if you like). They are based in Bari so it should be pretty great for you.
Ciao Katie, just saw your TH-cam video for the first time this morning. GREAT!! I am an American, from Seattle, living in Le Marche. A small village called Loro Piceno. I do not have ANY Italian blood, so don't have an option for dual citizenship. However, there are opportunities to live in Italy as a Permanent Resident. (Visit the Italian Consulate Webpage in the States for requirements) . I have been asked many times "why Loro Piceno, why Le Marche and why Italy"????? I have traveled to Italy for 25 years. I knew, when I decided to retire at an early age, that I wanted to move to Italy and live the rest of my life. The first time I set foot in Italy, I felt like I was HOME. In my heart I feel Italian. There are a lot of challenges moving here to become a resident. it's not easy, but it can be done and totally worth all the effort. Perhaps you might entertain doing a video about coming here to become a RESIDENT in lieu of citizenship. Happy to help......take care and keep making these videos!!
One more question Qkatie!! From your experience what do you prefer, in terms of lifestyle, where did you find yourself best between London and Trani? Cheerss

Don't care about haters, care about your fans. I'm your fan. Having said that, I would like to say that it is difficult for someone who lives in a place with a poor climate and food to understand what it means to eat great food and be able to swim in December. I was in London, 30 years ago, 2 weeks in July ... beautiful city, nothing to say, but it rained all the time .... come on, there is no comparison.
You spent 2 weeks in London 30 years ago so you are an expert on British life? I am British but I lived for more than 20 years in Italy and I prefer Britain. I like our mild climate and that we can find food from all over the world in all our supermarkets. Oh, and we don’t have mosquitoes!
@@kathyg8535 I am not an expert on British life, of course. I do not judge anyone and I do not pretend to say what is best in life or where it is best to live, I have only expressed my opinion. I realize that the place where one is born has a great influence on habits and lifestyle, surely there is patriotism in all the populations of the world. As for mosquitoes ... in life one get used to everything, even to the British.

It was amazing to see one of my comments make your video! Vi ringrazio tanto! 😆
Thanks for always watching and commenting. It means a lot!
It’s so nice to see a fellow American living in Europe. I can’t wait to be able to speak French so I can connect with the locals. You already seem to fit right in with your new community. After discovering your channel I now want to visit the beautiful Puglia😍
When it’s safe and allowed you should totally visit! I can’t wait to get back to France!
Best wishes
Very cool, that your found your ggf records! What a great incentive for moving to Italia! 💖
It really is!
I am loving your channel (and your work) more and more!! Discovered few hours ago!! Troppo bello!
My family is from Trani, actually one of my ancestors is buried in San Nicola Pellegrino. When this terrible situation is over, I’ll be glad to show you around Ravenna, my city.
I’d love that! Thanks for watching!
An amazing "acquisition" for the Italian nation! Benvenuta fra gli Italiani Katie!
Grazie!
Excellent, I’d like to move to Italy one day. I wouldn’t want to live there permanently but for a couple of years for the experience.
You’ll love it!
Sometimes it really seems that foreigners are more able to appreciate the beauty and quality of life in Italy.. of course it is also a question of being financially independent, many Soputhern Italians decide to emigrate up North, but the lifes down in Southern Italy is just magic
I'm definitely feeling the magic!
Thank you for answering my question! I love living vicariously through your amazing life. I'm now a Patron of yours too. I don't know what took me so long.
Aww Anthony. THANK YOU! (I don't know why it took me so long to set up Patreon FWIW).
No way! I will visit Tursi as soon as it is allowed. Can't wait to explore it!
Seriously, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS :) Just discovered your channel :) Greetings from an Italian expatriated to Switzerland :)
Ciao!
I wish there were more Italians so excited about little things which we take for granted. I hope I will come back one day!
I did almost the opposite I'm Italian from Matera and I moved to London just a bit before all the pandemic situation I miss my old wild Basilicata
Thanks for the videos. I am considering moving to Italy or at least a stay. My grandfather came to the US via Ellis Island, now I want to go back. :) Another American wants to live in Italy!
Benvenuti in Puglia!! 🎉🎉
I'm from Milan. There is no problem whatsoever if you talk about Italy. I am happy to watch your videos and sorry for the haters. They are everywhere.
just discovered your channel. Fun videos! great work!
Rimanete Strambi..italy is Fun and the Coffee is great!Pizza and Pastas tortelli...Super!@Fantastico!
In Spain we also put the eggs in the fridge 🤔 theres even a rack in the fridge for them (with the little circles to hold them).
It's such a funny little thing to learn about in different places! Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching!
In fact the egg must go in the fridge after you buy it, nothing special about that 😉
Sono contentissimo che hai preso la cittadinanza! :D :D :D
Benvenuta in italia!!
Ooh I think I’ve heard of that...Is that where the flamingoes are?
Exactly! Furthermore, in Margherita di Savoia is planted the Cipolla Bianca di Margherita (white onion of Margherita). It's a IGP product. It means "Indicazione geografica protetta".
0:38 This small red car is a "polish Fiat", a car made in Poland, it was a supercar, its crumple zone ended at the engine like in the Mercedes --- but this car has engine in the back :)
Thank you for your videos! I am in a similar situation regarding Italian citizenship and would love to know more about your process and how you did it! I have all of my US documents and I plan on going to Italy to apply. I may have to get the Italian documents directly in Italy.
As soon as possible you should visit the rest of Southern Italy I suggest the Islands in particular Sicily
As a citizen of Bergamo, which is in norther italy, i find your idea to move to souther italy the best to live a real italian Experience! Yes, maybe in the north you would find more people speaking in english, more "easy to live" cities .. but the south is still authentic!
Cosa intendi per "vera esperienza italiana"? E poi Bergamo avrà la sua autenticità, Roma avrà la sua autenticità e Palermo avrà la sua autenticità...
God bless Taralli... And Trani! (my city)
Such a great life you and Connor have!!
We've always put the eggs in the fridge! There's a shelf in many fridges just made for eggs. Am I not italian anymore???
Hahahaha 🤷♀️
Your ancestors were originally from Tursi, some few km from my village, Rocca Imperiale. I wonder if you visited it, while you were in Tursi.
Congratulations on your italian citizenship!
You got a new subscriber :)
Amazing channel . Come to visit Sardinia with Connor this summer !!!
We would love that!
I love Italy!
Gosh i fell in love with your personality and i have subscribed

Really happy to see your citizenship process is getting through. It's really nice to see someone enjoy the perks a small city may offer, between a sunny walk along the sea and a walk to the best "panificio" for the most tasty Taralli in town, moreover all of these are quite cheap. Keep your nice work ahead and spread your contagious happiness in the city, the contagious virus have made many people less content.
Grazie!
This is a great channel! I am in process of gaining my dual Italian citizenship as my father was born and raised as a young man in Italy and my mother’s grand parents on both sides immigrated from Italy. Being American while coming from a very strong Italian heritage is a strange place. I feel much more comfortable with Italian culture in great part but grew up in America. You channel has been inspiring and educational. Thank you and Connor for sharing your experiences. I am planning to be in Naples as I along with my business partner Tony Casella establish a number of contacts through work. I am looking into joining the Q-Club…every time I watch an episode…I get hungry:)… Thank you both…Steven Garofalo
Thank you for making it :)
Salve agli amici dall'altro latto delle Alpi. :)
"Why not give it a try" is exactly what I thought! No regrets, right?! I hope you have renewed opportunities to come to Italy in the future. Grazie per aver guardare questo video :)
That Puglia necklace... ♥
Welcome in Italy!!!
Grazie!
once you taste Taralli you cannot stay without them in your life, I'm from puglia and i lived in valencia for 7 months, and god when my parents came to visit me, they brought me kilos and kilos of Taralli and Mozzarelle
I wish you showed more of ITALY while talking!
Love your videos
I am very curious how do Italians cook at home. What kind of pots and pans they have that are not common in the US?
I’d reach out to the team at Italian passport. You might be surprised... they’re really good at finding a way!
I think our rival might me be Bisceglie? Still researching... thanks for watching!
@@TheQKatie our rival is Andria ;)
I just subscribed, cause you girl is a badass. Just watched your citizenship video. You should have your own show on Italy.
Aww thank you!
Awww thanks for watching. I'm in love with Southern Italy!
Ciao Alex sono del nord, ti assicuro che da parte mia c’è solo amore per il sud ma soprattutto per le persone del sud, che considero miei fratelli! ❤️🇮🇹
The question is wy move to corpus cristi tx if you born in venice . It"s the question of my life !
Bellissimo video! Io sono pugliese, vivo a Brindisi. Amo la mia terra. Saluti.
Beautiful video! I'm from Puglia, I live in Brindisi. I love my country. Greetings. :)
Grazie!
about Tursi (quirky moment!)
Here in Genoa there is a palace called "Tursi Palace" because a former owner was the aristocratic family Doria. A member of the family was awarded in the XVI centrury by the Spanish Emperor whit noble titles with included the fief of Tursi. This is the reason for the name of the palace.
The family owned Tursi until XVIII century (we have to admit: it seems they weren't some of the best south feud owners ...)
Now "Palazzo Tursi" hosts the city council, Comune offices, a local police station and a museum.
Woah! Dropping some serious knowledge. Can't wait to visit basilicata again and explore my ancestral home!
Come to Matera girl, if you like Trani you'll be amazed. Yeah there is not seaside there but.. it's amazing. kiss from Basilicata!
omg I just saw your ancestors are from Tursi! I almost cried knowing that someone living in America because of ancestors' choices, came back to their places and actually saw them. It's hard to explain the feeling.
I can't wait to get back to Tursi and visit some more. I want to bring all my family and show them!
So, if your ancestor was from Basilicata, how come you moved to Trani? Closest beautiful town to that great grandfather's comune? :D
We ended up in Trani through The Italian Passport. They're based here in Puglia so we followed their lead!
Trani è una delle città più belle del Sud. Magica !
Lo adoro!
Ciao Katia sei molto simpatica e brava. Benvenuta in Italia ♡♡♡
Sicuramente ti è stato detto un migliaio di volte, però voglio dirtelo ugualmente, hai due occhi fantastici.

I love Trani. I am in Vasto now. Trying to make a future here. It’s hard to start but I’m sticking to it. It’s beautiful.
@@TheQKatie Thank you! BTW I just discovered your videos and I love them!
i am from nothern italy but i think trani is a real gem
Interesting idea. Thanks for sharing your story!
One more question Qkatie!! From your experience what do you prefer, in terms of lifestyle, where did you find yourself best between London and Trani? Cheerss
Katie, will you need to take the driver's license exam soon? It's in Italian so are you good enough at the language to pass?
Ciao stramba Katy! Lol Watchin' ur videos from short time. I really appreciate, keep going this way. Yup, pls dont be the " average Yankee expat" ahahah: u r great in ur own quirky way. Enjoy the small southern villages lifestyle, u'll never regret.
U know, I'm in Lisbon now, before Covid in Prague. I'm Roman native.
Life its all about how to dance under the rain Kate. Un abbraccio.
Trying my best. Thanks for watching!
Hi Q Katie, On one of your videos, you mentioned different language courses including Duolingo. I couldn’t catch one of them. Could u plz repeat?
Grazie, Judy Bowman
Btw come in Molfetta to Adriatico resturant (when It's possibile). You Will taste the real Puglia sea tradition, oh and you started talking with hands, it's a steriotype but hey it's fine.
Can’t wait!!!
I would love to try Italian life. Too bad I don't know any Italian.
Never too late to learn! 🧐😁
So cool knowing that your ancestors were italians. Do You know their story too? I'm curious!
I'm slowly learning it. Can't wait to visit their hometown after lockdown ends!
Ehi qkatie welcome in Trani! ❤ See you around!
taralli is like bread, not just a snack. ;) interesting. hope to be free to move cause of smartworking my company learned we can work without the "physical" office. :D
Taralli = life 😂😂😂
@@TheQKatie yeah and my girlfriend is from puglia :P
Just enjoy living your life, Italian style.
so, you came in Italy just to have an Aperitivo with taralli ?
Hahaha... that's basically it! 😂
Italy belongs to the world. If that is what she can afford to do so be it,
Don't care about haters, care about your fans.
Not gonna lie... the weather thing is *pretty awesome*. Thanks for the support!
Waw ... Il tuo italiano è ottimo ! Lucky you in Puglia
