What a ridiculous experience. I wonder how many of their customers just bite the bullet and spend to make them work or lose out silently ... I totally agree with you that if it is sold as a set, it should work together. That's the reason to buy a set, eh? They probably sell a ton more Chevy and Ford heads and some service person was not aware of the issue if these don't happen a lot, but it's so obvious that it was screwed up from the start. Either way, machined wrong or wrong hardware or whatever, Speedmaster would have done better if they just investigated what went wrong and corrected it instead of leaving it to you. Thanks a lot for bringing this up to us, it will save one or another from this frustration 🤦♂️
Wow man! I never doubted the pictures, but the video shows it all. The videos of mine they sent out definitely didn’t even show a speedmaster head or rocker assembly 😅. I had thought about buying them for the Black Friday sale, but went with the 440 sources. The only issue I had on those, was that one of the springs had two cups underneath it. I was swapping springs anyway, so I just put the extra in the tool box. Cool channel, I’m subbing up to follow the saga!
Thanks for the sub! I have used your channel countless times for a bunch of different builds. Keep up the awesome content. I got a set of small block cnc ported heads loaded at the same time from Speedmaster. The my suck just a little less. For one, none of the valves were at even close to the same height so it would force you into adjustable rockers (which I was going to do anyway). I bought their roller rockers at the same time. Had to clearance the rocker a ton just to clear the retainer and spring and get them to sit correctly. I’ll do a video of them as well.
Wow that sucks! 😕 So you ordered, bought a set of 1.6 rockers to work with your heads and they forgot to tell you those rockers wouldn't work with the valve heights, springs and retainers .😮 Thanks for the update on that company, won't be ordering anything from them 😕.
Beehive springs and retainers $120 no big deal, I wouldn't even bat an eye at this. There is no aftermarket head that you can just bolt on without checking everything. Some of Speedmaster's stuff is great sometimes its crap you never know.
Yeah i used a set of these once i bought bare heads i used conical springs and small diameter retainers with a custom length valve. this was the fix in my case . Was it worth the grief hassles and expense No. The Heads themselves are just poorly manufactured in so many aspects If you need a high port head buy Eds from Hughes and use their rockers
Sorry you are having problems, but I have used numerous sets of their heads, including the ones that are on your bench. And I agree that there is a rocker arm geometry issue, but the problem is the valves are too long. Put the correct valves in it, and the geometry will be perfect. Ferrea sells the valves. May have to clear the push rods on that particular head. As far as customer service, I have been buying for at least 10 years and have had no issues with this company. Standard head does not have to have anything done to them, it is just that particular head.
I appreciate your input. Our machine shop said we could change the valves also. But the geometry is so far out of wack that. I’d didn’t seem worth it for the amount of money on a valve job and still have issues. The main problem we have is: they sold this as a kit. Not individual pieces. If you sell a KIT, you shouldnt need to reinvent their kit just to make it work. Just our thoughts.
@@agatemaster5706 It was the never ending issues with Mopar aftermarket parts that forced me to use brand X to power my cars now. The street dont care whats under the hood. That being said why not use a set of fully ported TFS 240cc heads. No reason they shouldnt run 9.40s without nitrous in a 3000 pound car if you use a 400 block.
They are so far out of wack that it would need 1/2” blocks. Took them to a machine shop and they said there was nothing they could do to make them work.
Speedmaster and legitimate bad press…saw where they copied another innovators valve body, and were selling them on Summitt… Now problems with their budget BB Mopar heads… I have a set of the heads. They would not work with my application a 400 low deck w/girdle stroked to 517. One issue was going with a solid lifter roller cam and stronger springs being required and cutting the spring pockets. The Speedmaster roller rockers had similar fitment issues to yours. Clearancing as described ascper ‘Stan the Man’ at Speedmaster was really not an option. Some Comps roller rockers did work. Next issue was gaining 3/8ths pushrod clearancing, broke through into one of the ports. Now I have read online about drilling a 9/16 enlargement, and installing 17/32 copper/brass tubing as a sleeve after coating it with epoxy, as this will intrude into the ports. At this point looking at other head options.
I feel your pain with them! We sent the big block heads back to Speedmaster at our own cost, of $350. After the hearing about them flat out stealing other companies technology, I will never buy another product from them!
Years ago i bought a set of their Victor BBM heads. I bought them bare, i also bought their offset rocker system that those heads used. The heads was nice, very nice, but the rocker set up was complete junk. This is procomp with a different name. They sell 98% junk. I really wish people would quit buying this junk. People by this shit because its cheap, not good. Nobody does any kind of product reviews or company reviews. They see cheap prices and jump on it. Be greatfull they didn't work. Their valve train is complete junk. Stop buying this shit. They can't make a set of valve covers without screwing them up.
I completely agree with you. We got sucked in by the Black Friday deals. Biggest lesson learned, by the best quality parts you can afford for your build or like buying crap from Harbor Freight, you will be buying things twice and might as well spent the money on good stuff. Let alone the fact earlier this year Speedmaster was caught flat out stealing people’s products and copying them.
I bought a set of the Eddy victor BBM heads. I told procomp straight up that I wanted to see what kind of quality they sold and I told them I would either praise them online or tell people how bad their shit really is. The bare castings was pretty nice, of course they should have been, they was a copy of the Edelbrock Mopar heads. The adjustable ockers was absolute garbage. I sent them back and kept the heads. I've seen procomp/speedmaster heads taken apart. No spring seats for the springs on aluminum heads, installed heights was all over the place, valves that just looked rough, springs that looked like cheap junk, retainers and keepers that just looked like trash. Their intakes always have core shift, I've seen their rods that had the cap screw hole threads stripped out straight out of the box. I have bought two sets of valve covers from them and both sets had to have at least two holes enlarged to fire the heads. I didn't know I was getting procomp/speedmaster valve covers from eBay or I wouldn't have bought them. People buy this stuff and brag about it. They are ticking time bombs.
Also stay away from the upper door panels for 70 chargers 69 chargers that aren't from legendary if they're legendary I'm guessing they'll fit better like the ones from PG classics up in Canada the cheaper ones that they have for sale that are$150.00 cheaper than legendary ones terrible fit not even close
Time to contact your credit card provider, they'll get results. Speed master is Chinese garbage just like pro comp. Even the big names have some castings done there but are final machined here. The aftermarket will be the undoing of our automotive industry since just about everything is made in China..... Cam companies - Chinese Cam cores are too soft, lifters either mis machined or incorrectly hardened etc. it's a mess right now.
@@agatemaster5706 that's a shame that's probably the worst quality control I've ever seen well I hope the build turns out good see when you post another video
Ya speedmaster makes junk. It’s cheap Chinese stuff. I’ve used it but it’s a lot of work to fix things. If you don’t have a machine shop don’t buy their stuff.
I will never buy another one of “their” products. After this experience and then them getting caught flat out stealing technology, that recently came out with valve bodies.
Thanks for posting this up. Sorry you got hosed by Speedmaster.
Have they never heard of cad?
Those problems should be sorted long before the head is even cast.
Unbelievable!! Send it back as fast as possible, ubortion!!
Thank you for your sacrifice. I was considering those heads but couldn't find any comments on them. Sorry for your troubles

@@agatemaster5706 10/4. I have heard of having the stock pedestals machined flat and having some made. I’ve never tried it. Sounds expensive for sure

To add insult to injury. We sent the heads back to them and it cost us $350 to ship them back. Not a chance I’ll ever buy even a bolt from them again
Can you add spacer Blocks to raise the entire system up? or will an all new design Taller system be needed?my guess another design.
Mike at b3 racing made me billet aluminum shims to solve this problem.

I've clearanced small block Chevy rocker arms arms to clear big block roller springs but they are comp steel rockers and are of much better quality
Thanks for posting this video, now I know.
Might try 440’ source stealth heads way better quality control
Definitely will try them next time.
Yes spacer blocks nay work but a guy would have to make them. Also mopar oils the rocker through the pedestals so not sure how that would work
