If you plan on returning, every August there is a 10-11 day cultural festival in the park (Nooderplantsoen) and the city center with music and art displays. In the park there are also a lot of food trucks, which you may enjoy, and some music concerts are even free.
I discovered this channel 3 days ago and bingewatched a lot of your videos already. And now you have been to my city and I can literally see my house across the road from Friet van Piet in this one. Mind-blowing algorithmic magic!

Hi, great job to visit Groningen again! The door represents the history of that area as the former Jewish quarter of the city before WW2. You might have seen the large and beautiful synagogue on the other side of the street, which is partly in use and partly a museum.
@@buncharted When you walk through Folkingestraat (the street with the synagogue, there are a lot of things that remind of the Jewish history of the street, and tell the story fo the people who used to live there, but who were murdered during the war. For example, if you look at the sidewalk, you can see a lot of "stolpersteinen". Every stone represends a person or a family that used to live there.

When Groningen celebrated a victory over a siege, part of the tower burnt.. making it shorter.. Happy Utrecht bisshop let the Groiningers rebuilt, but it had to be lower then Dom Tower in Utrecht. The Martini tower has a fundation the only goes 2 metres deep, and rests on deer and cowskins.

I had to be in Groningen regularly some years ago, so I don't know if the restaurant still exists, but pretty rare in the Netherlands they had a restaurant (looking online, supposedly moved) called: Javaans Eetcafe Groningen. They have Javanese food, so from a certain part of Indonesia. It was also good.
Zat die tent niet aan het Schuitendiep? Toen ik er gegeten heb (plm. 5 jaar geleden) vond ik het niet zo bijzonder. Veel jus, weinig vlees, en alles smaakte ongeveer hetzelfde. Kun je beter Indonesisch eten afhalen -bij de RIMA- bij de Toko Semarang op het Zuiderdiep.
Groningen is my hometown. My entire roots are here. Too bad you visited Groningen on a sad rainy day. With nice weather and high temperatures, the terraces are packed. And then the city lives much more. And the 'eierbal' is a typical Groningen delicacy. But also the 'Groninger' koek. And the Groningen dry sausage with cloves. I hope to see you back in Groningen soon.
Knols koek with the nuts on it. Just some butter and you're golden. Noorderplantsoen is buzzing in the summer. And the city nightlife is great when you're young, no closing times.

Recipes may vary, but you can look up "gebakken marinier". A dish invented by the Dutch navy. The one airplane carrier we used to own (Karel Doorman) was sold to Argentina decades ago. Partially paid for with corned beef I kid you not. To put all that canned meat to use (same as the navy had to): mix with onion, garlic, ketjap and sambal an fry it up in a pan. Serve on bread or with rice. I like to spread some on a pancake and roll that sucker up.

6:29 the reason you don't see any skyscrapers in Groningen..? The "Olle Grieze" ( Old Grey one) is by law protected.. No building is allowed to be taller then The Martini Tower. ( Tower of Saint Martin) And it it is the one of few who don't have a rooster in top, but a horse... There is another tower, The "Drumnkman's tower" it shows 2 clocks from any visual point.. hence the name..tower of St. John's church. . And The St Johns bridge has in its railings a depiction of John the Baptist, pointing to the Martini tower and church..because it held the actual arm of John the Baptist int he medieval times, and pilgrimns would come to Groningen, Gruoninga to worship it. Love you guys, you two are awesome!!!!!! Greetings from Groningen (oke the province, I live in Delfzijl, but born and raised in Groningen, and work there still..) Groningers are refer themselves as Stadjers.. Groningen and close to Delfzijl, Appingedam, where the only two official towns in the regiion ofr a long time.. Next time 😅, you really should visit St. Anthony gasthuis. It is a so called 'hofje'. The minute you walk thrue the gate you go back in time a few hundred years. My grandparents used to live in one of the small houses. The gasthuis is about 500 years old but nowadays mostly students live there. It really is beautiful 😊

The OG fries potato breed is from Groningen, het Bintje. Went out of fashion because of it's vulnerability and relatively a lot of pesticides used. But most friteries in Wallonia, who are more serious about fries than the Flemish and still fry in beef tallow and cut them 1 or 2 millimeter thicker still only use Bintjes.
Recommendation for the next time you guys are in Groningen: There's a small little ramen shop called Yanagi. My friend and I go there every month, because it's just sooo good. There's something about small little Japanese ramen shops, the quality is amazing.

Love your video's! Mostly you visit city's around Netherlands but why not visit a real dutch farmers yearmarket?? Villages are boring but NOT when (some) villages have their annual farmers fair. Try for example on 1 sept 2024 "Effe noar Geffe" ... Geffen is a 5000 inhab. village near Oss but once a year around 20.000 people visit Geffen for a big farmersfair with 200 stands, food, music, various demonstrations, frysian horse demonstation, street theatre, bread making demonstration etc.... I am from Oss and around 45 years ago I went there with family... good memories! So would be great to check something else! (train > Oss, rent OV fiets to Geffen is best!) GRTZ!
I suppose now, since you did not climb the Dom toren, you need to return to Utrecht too, right? PS Should you want to make your own Mayonnaise, it is actually not that hard. Egg yolks, vinegar and oil, salt. Add whatever spice you want to the mix. I have a tendency to take a balsamic (red or white) vinegar instead of clear vinegar. Mustard needs to be in it too, but red or green pepers would work well. Mayo for me is the ultimate experiment, add yogurts to the mix for a salad dressing...
we climbed the domtoren in our last utrecht video :) and that’s a very good idea! i have a lot of ideas, would be interesting to see if any of them make a good mayo!

Love your video's! Mostly you visit city's around Netherlands but why not visit a real dutch farmers yearmarket?? Villages are boring but NOT when (some) villages have their annual farmers fair. Try for example on 1 sept 2024 "Effe noar Geffe" ... Geffen is a 5000 inhab. village near Oss but once a year around 20.000 people visit Geffen for a big farmersfair with 200 stands, food, music, various demonstrations, frysian horse demonstation, street theatre, bread making demonstration etc.... I am from Oss and around 45 years ago I went there with family... good memories! So would be great to check something else! (train > Oss, rent OV fiets to Geffen is best!) GRTZ!

Should you want to make your own Mayonnaise, it is actually not that hard. Egg yolks, vinegar and oil, salt. Add whatever spice you want to the mix. I have a tendency to take a balsamic (red or white) vinegar instead of clear vinegar. Mustard needs to be in it too, but red or green pepers would work well. Mayo for me is the ultimate experiment, add yogurts to the mix for a salad dressing...
