- Slogans criticising Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi were displayed on a billboard on King Faisal Street in Giza governorate on Sunday night. Social media users speculated the public display screen was hacked and the images were widely circulated online.
Sisi, who rose to power after a military coup in 2013 ousting Egypt’s first democratically elected President Mohamed Morsi, has violently cracked down on dissenting voices, with human rights groups reporting at least 60,000 political prisoners in the country.
