Honestly mate I'm really impressed by the quality of this video, like the editing, b-roll, scripting and the little jokes. You're just great at presenting and it really shows. I like the coupe, great looks on a budget, with old fashioned simple & reliable mechanics - I need to get my hands on one at some point. Nice job! Look forward to more videos.

Thanks mate, really appreciate that! Yes they’re really cool cars actually, you don’t see many of them around anymore at all.

You are absolutely right, 2 liter is glacial especially by modern standard. It's the looks, the handling and honestly.. the price point too that make it a good deal! It's not a small car, if you flip the back seats down you'll have a lot of space to transport stuff. I fit my bike inside the car, just took the 30 seconds to detach the front wheel. It's honestly one of the best budget sports cars, especially nowadays, and honestly one of the most reliable cars i've had. Shame they don't make these anymore, I guess the modern equivalent is "hot hatchback" though someone please explain me what is hot in a hatchback unless it's on fire.

I really miss mine now - despite the harsh ride. It had character, drove securely and was genuinely tough (proven when a deer landed on the front end!) as well as being utterly reliable.
Amazingly it even towed a (small) caravan with complete aplomb. If only Hyundai had brought in someone like Lotus to give the chassis comfort as well as road-holding, t would have been a great car. Thanks for bringing back memories - same colour scheme too!

    Nice review!
These cars are little gems! I have had three coupes. Currently driving SIII from 2008 and 72k on the clock. I did 30k in this car and it has never let me down. Similar to my previous coupes. Just regular servicing. All electronics work. Engine pulls like new, seats are awesome and sound system is better than in my Lexus RX.
During my ownership I only needed to do regular servicing (oil, spark plugs, filters, break pads/discs).
Weak points are parking brake cables ( worth replacing with rear calliper), clutch if you have a high biting point it probably need doing.
Engines (2.0litre) are super reliable. Suspension was designed by Porsche, very good on corners. It feels like the car is glued to the road. I usually get 330-340 miles on a full tank (bp ultimate, mixed driving city/ highway). Recently I have replaced the whole exhaust and it sounds lovely.
Of course it is not a super fast car by today standards, but it is a nice cruiser for long journeys with all the toys (climatronic, cd, heated seats, sunroof etc) and it is a 4 seater with a massive boot. There is nothing like that on the market in that price range. It definitely looks much better than most of the new cars on the road.
Just make sure you check brakes, callipers, exhaust and clutch and it will serve you forever. In the US these cars (they are called Tiburon) drive up to 200k miles easily

Thanks for all the detail, would you say it rides on the stiff side?
If I got this car I'd be doing quite a lot of motorway miles and the UK roads are full of potholes so a stiff suspension would be a big downside for me.

    • @rolandacca9732
      @rolandacca9732 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@infinite_azure_ coupe is a sporty car and all cars of this nature are a bit more stiff. I compare it to Lexus RX and it is definitely more stiff than Lexus, although it is a good cruiser for motorway driving. I don’t like driving my coupe in town but for motorway and road trips it is ideal. I recommend haves test drive and you can see yourself.

I own one for 17 years nov, it's a great car, fun to drive, looks really nice, materials are solid, almost 300k on the clock, no extra issues, little bit of rust i need to adress this year, but that's it.

  • @colingardiner6697

    Thanks for the honest review.
I've had my siii for 5 years now and it's never let me down nor has it ever failed an MOT. Very reliable motor and yes they aren't very fast (unless your willing to spend big money) but they still remain a head turner. I've had quite a few people asking what car it is (mine has had badges replaced with flying "T" badges and wheel centres and "Tuscani" badge) and they're quite shocked when you say Hyundai. As for the clutch they are intentionally high even when replaced, Hyundai said it was to give the car a more sporty feel for quicker gear changes. As far as I'm aware there is no adjustment as it's hydraulic unless there is some adjustment at the pedal end.

Really liked the video, reminded me of being Top Gear-ish in the comedic repartee.
I have a 2007 2ltr, bought it in 2015 and yes it's had a few issues like new clutch, rear suspension, new exhaust and all new brakes but I love her. She's a cruiser not a bruiser when it comes to speed but she turns heads in looks and is a safe bet for a future classic (if we're allowed to have them in the future?) and so I'm spending my hard earned on having her rust done (not much just rear wing bottoms) and a respray. Considering she's not garaged the rust is minimal for her age, my previous cars (all Fords) rusted through in 4years for each one!! The 2ltr engines are economic and rock solid reliable as mine has never let me down on starting no matter the weather but the 1.6 is a tad weak in power and the V6 is very thirsty. The boot is huge as stated in the video its truly like a Tardis as its bigger on the inside than it looks outside but you need to have your legs and head amputated if you want to sit in the back seat.
If you are thinking of buying one and you're not a speed freak get it, if only for the styling.

We’ve had a 2003 GTv6 6 speed in the family for a little while, It was super fun to drive. Best comparison I had to the power was my 03 vtec accord 2dr. I didn’t know a thing about it, turns out i’m getting my hand on it next month, Just need a new clutch. I’ve been going crazy watching every video with the car, learning everything I can about it, It really is this hidden/forgotten gem.

Underrated cars. I'd rather have this than a celica. They're quite sturdy too. You wouldn't expect how they're built when you've never been in one. Interior is nice too. Apart from the speed, i think hyundai really tried their best to fit in that market at the time. So they made them well.

I have a 2.0 SIII and it's a great car, the addition of a 6th gear would have made it perfect. Styling was by Pininfarina which is why it looks Ferrari like.

JCB quote straight out of Richard Hammonds. Use your own thoughts and not someone else’s. If we’re looking for reviews at this price point in today’s world, we want owners experience, not someone opinion (although held in very high regard) from 15+ years ago.
