My late dad was a US Army trained mechanic in the 1960s, he went on to work for VDOT and various mining companies keeping their equipment going and so being his only child and a girl he taught me how to work on everything, and it's something I still love to do to this very day at now 44 yrs old. Well for the past 4 years I'd been mowing my 1 acre yard that's mostly a big hillside with a 20" Hyper Tough push mower from Walmart I got new back in 2019. Earlier this year I had neighbors who'd inherited a house that had sat empty for about 20 years that they fixed up and moved into and left there was a Garden Way Troy Bilt 33" Walk Behind mower. He ended up bringing me that mower, all it's manuals and 2 boxes. In one box were a new set of blades still sealed up but badly rusted and in the other box were 2 new belts, a new Champion spark plug, and new air filter and foam. He dropped the mower off to me knowing I fix things, because whenever he lived across the road and had mower issues in the summer he'd bring his over as the only small engine repair shop in our area ends up with a 4 month long wait in the mowing season to even look at things let alone repair them. Well I was gifted that Troy Bilt and going from that 33" mulching deck that I no longer have to push or pull has been the best gift I think anyone ever give me. He told me he tried getting it going and had no luck, well I had it started within 15 minutes of him dropping it off to me and everything fixed with it and mowing by that evening. It was a world of difference in how fast I cut this 1 acre hillside going from a 20" to a 33" but I have to say that mower in this video is just a monster of a deck at 44". I think my neighbor felt sorry for me because my right front wheel had completely rusted off my old Hyper Tough push mower and I was the day before he brought it push mowing on 3 wheels, which I was repairing the push mower when he brought the Troy Bilt. The difference is night and day, it's back when things weren't made with cheap Chinese steel that's prone to rusting even in good conditions as there wasn't a spot of rust on the Garden Way Troy Bilt. I intend to keep this mower going another 20 years. Odd thing about mine is it has the battery and key start up but the strangest battery I've ever seen, it's a lil 7.5 volt battery that looks something like what used to be on kids Powerwheel ride on toys back in the early 90s. I've looked online and I can get a battery for it, so I'm tempted in doing just that and hoping everything that would make it key start is working as who knows if you could even find parts for that. I do know if I had the battery start going the only thing missing he couldn't find out there was where you have to plug it in to charge up the battery but I figured I could rig something up for that or just pull the battery off and charge it another way. Right now I've got it running so well that it starts and runs on the first pull after changing the spark plug. Whoever had it knew to have it serviced before putting it away and not leaving any gas in it so everything was good. I always run all my lawn equipment out of gas before storing them.

That one is a 52”, not 44”. I had 4 Toro commercial walk behinds at one point in 2016, 2 44”, an old 37” and a fixed deck 36”. Looking at the two 44” their serial numbers were 2 digits apart so they were close to each other on the assembly line. I was going to fix each one and make money then I got another Lyme disease flare up. I removed the casters and caster arms from the front of the fixed deck 36” and sold it to a guy who was going to make it a Bush Hog type mower. He sold it to another guy who was calling around trying to find replacement arms and casters and I said I have a project for them. I should record a video just about the odd people I’ve talked to over the years selling and even giving away things. Especially the father and son who woke me up at 6:30 on a free commercial metal computer cabinet. My ad said call after 10am. The father and son each called me multiple times between 6:30 and 7:30am with really rotten attitudes and I finally told them I’m not giving it to you. At 9:57am an older Asian man called on it and immediately apologized for calling 3 minutes early. His attitude was vastly different than the father and son who bothered me between 6:30 and 7:30am. He arrived to pick it up and again he was really nice and the look on his face was so very appreciative for getting the cabinet for free.
