    Great video, I am a builder but getting older so this job looks a great alternative, I don’t need a lot of money £200 a week would pay for my food and bills so this is definitely a job I will consider, thanks for posting the video 👍

    i worked there at the start of the pandemic to december last year and i would say the pay is decent. People just don’t realise with that job you have to do a lot of parcels to make good money from it. So many people i saw come and go because they can’t stick to it and think it’s great money from the get go! Especially if you are living from that wage you have to be mindful that the volumes can change so you have to find extra rounds to do to make up the numbers, which a lot of people don’t do because they don’t want to learn a new area (generally speaking). But if you’re doing it for a bit of extra money i’d say it’s definitely worth it, i loved it and it’s nice to see someone else who enjoys it☺️
    Everyone hates on hermes but i’ve had rubbish delivery services from all the companies, i personally think it’s boils down to the individual who’s doing the delivering and not the company as whole!

    A small point, you don’t have to drive your own car which needs extra business insurance, repairing, maintaining, fuelling, tyres and brakes as a waitress and a fitness trainer.

    I've been doing hermes 9 years now and like any job there are good and bad sides to the job in the 9 years I've been there things have changed some good and bad the company is out to make money like any Company but the main things you have to watch with hermes is say your ill its your problem to find cover and if u can't find cover you have double volume next day plus a warning, another thing check the amount of packets and standard parcels you get because they send a higher amount of packets when they are standard so they don't have to pay you as much but you can upgrade them on couriers online, i do 2 rounds as its my full time job so I'm out a good 7-8 hours a day so if u like driving, delivering parcels then its good job to have

      Hey mate, I'm currently looking into working for hermes but I'm worried about wear and tear on the car I'll be driving. You've been doing it for 9 years so thought I'd ask how many cars you've beeb through since working for hermes? It's literally the only thing putting me off at the moment 😄

      @damonrowe5499 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Spiritual Jay hi mate, in 9 years I've been through 5 cars, currently using a van which is on the way out, tbh mate if your on a lower paying round the less wear and tear you'll have, the higher paying round the more the damage but it's what's best for you I do 2 rural rounds and wouldn't change it for the world but you may happier doing a town round, less mileage no wear and tear but you won't earn as much money so its whatever suits you maze

    I've worked for Hermes for over four years and don't get the figures you say you get. For a packet small) I get 47p, a standard gives me 62p and a postable is 37p. Also - if you pay it, you got to take into account your tax and national insurance, which on my figures and as you are classed as self employed you might be liable for.

    You need to calculate your total running costs per mile to include wear & tear tyres oil etc. cost per mile to run your car you should be looking at 30 to 40 pence per mile. Your car resale value will be effected by the high mileage on your vehicle.
    It may at face value look like you are initially earning good money but over a period of say 4 years your vehicle will have very little resale value as it will have high mileage. And you would have needed to save some of your earnings for a replacement vehicle.

    • @Toby_the_Glen
      @Toby_the_Glen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, plus the increased wear and tear. The big problem is that you have no 'back up', if you have a puncture or breakdown 'mid round' you are in trouble. Your car needs to be super reliable, more so than someone just commuting to the office.

    I used to work for Hermes and they do destroy your soul after some time. However I feel like you've got it really good and sounds like you have a good manager. You've also got a better work ethic than most people I know too. I believe what people mean by you make no money doesn't really apply to you right now. As you do this part time and it's not your main focus. For me I worked 6 days a week every week only get Xmas, Boxing, New Year's day and the odd bank holiday off which always resulted in double the amount of parcels coming through. I made decent money. 4 to 5 thousand a month but I burned out and managers were not accommodating in the slightest. You're lucky that you get to pick your shifts. I think you should stick at it for the time being but not forever. I'm glad I'm out of it. I got so burnt out that I phoned in sick for the first ever time in the years that I was there working and they sacked me for it. But I'm in a much better place now. But more power to you for having more control over how they treat you.

      If you only want a small round with a few parcels the depot will definitely cater to your wants/needs! I like getting a car full for the money but they will always listen if I said I wanted more or less and I can pick as little or as often to when I want to work! :) They always need people to deliver small amounts of parcels that another delivery driver couldn't fit into there car etc!

    Not everyone gets paid what you get paid. I get 49p for packets which are 75% of the parcels and 65p for standard. You don't get paid for non deliveries and you don't get paid for picking them up and scanning them in either which can take a while.
    Yours is the best case scenario.

Yes there may be extra costs (a quick google search will tell you that the top up insurance is only 55p a day with Hermes) but if you love it do it and ignore all the negative comments on here from old farts like me and do what you enjoy....my son is 20 and we renovate houses together - this would be great for him to do between houses....not sure how many parcels he could fit in his Ferrari though (joking)!

    I'm a courier, hats off to you I wouldn't touch multi drop, did day rate £135 per day for ups few years back and went out with 90 parcels average, never had time for lunch, moral in depot was so low, as soon as I was sent to rural round did half a day and quit due to 3 miles average between drops.
    Now I do 2 drops max a day for double that crap money and a stress free day.
    And with Hermes by the time yove factored in your petrol money and wear and tear and McDonalds no way your earning £10 an hour.
    But on a positive note at least you've got the get up and go to go out there an earn some money.
    I recommend you get on courier exchange and do some local courier work you could get £40 for doing one small local job

    • @roberttucker805
      @roberttucker805 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been working on and off for Hermes and now Evri for ten years. If you know your route you should load as carefully you can making sure you put the last drops in first and load so the first drops are close to the tailgate. Boxes can be a pain but I usually put them in on the deck so they don't topple over. It takes a bit of practice but it's worth doing it because it saves a lot of time when you're delivering. If you're on a round you're not familiar with it pays to take some large bags so you can put parcels for roads where you're doing lots of drops so you can get to them easily. I can knock out a hundred a day in about four hours without having to drive like a nutter and still have time for the occasional chat with the customers. Good luck 🤞

    • @jakehowie442

      You mean road tax right? She probably doesn’t reach the 12,500 income tax threshold.
      Her NI contribution will be very low.
      If you put it this way, anyone pays for insurance, Road tax, MOT etc for their car. She is just paying for her private and work vehicle at the same time.
      So really she’s not paying much more than any worker who doesn’t use their car for work purposes. This is beneficial to her since she is driving such an old, small car which has low value.
      Driving a 3 year old Honda, or Mercedes different matter.
      I know people who drive for Evri now and they all have pretty old cars. You can’t have a new, expensive car, since you’re adding too much mileage and adding to wear and tear. Now high fuel costs too.
      Overall, this job is good for her situation as 20 year old student, but it’s not a sustainable job to live off beyond that. You will have to deliver 150-200 parcels a day to make a liveable income.
      A lot of the burden is on the driver themselves at Evri, compared to Tesco and Waitrose drivers that just do the safe driving and get the van with reverse cameras, uniform, sat nav, insurance coverage, paid hourly regardless, everything.
      Argos or supermarket driver best delivery job.
      Though these driver jobs are more time pressured and companies expect much higher service quality.
