    6:55 Huge understatement in my opinion.
    That's what it might have looked like from an average consumer perspective but Nexus 4 and 5 are definitely among the most important phones of the 2010s.
    After the honestly forgettable Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 4 became really the first example of a true Android smartphone as Google intended it (at the time at least).
    Not only was it affordable which generated a lot of very helpful interest and publicity for Android as a platform but also it was a really well executed all-rounder, praised by users and developers.
    In my opinion its release marked the beginning of Android's brief golden era.
    And then, when Nexus 5 came out, it wasn't just an iterative update, it managed to be an upgrade in pretty much every way, while fixing the issues of its predecessor like replacing the beautiful but extremely fragile glass back with more durable plastic and having components with significantly improved longevity and quality control.
    It also managed to become a sensation in the dev community not seen since the HTC HD2 days and quickly joined it as a legend that only now is starting to fade only due to its age.
    And yet, to this day many people and projects use it as a reference platform device because it's just so easy to work with.
    Since Project Treble came out it became less important what device you use for development but still, nothing quite managed to replace the Nexus 5, at least that's what I believe despite the Fairphone, PinePhone and Librem 5 being out in the wild.
    I think Google made a big mistake by not continuing the tradition of the Nexus line, of having a different manufacturer build a state-of-the-art device every year or two.

  • @vhgdigital

    I had multiple Nexus Devices as they were ultra developer friendly. They were easy to root, easy to modify, had access to WIP versions of Android updates for developers to test, and though root "voids warranty " every time my phone had issues they always fixed though I had custom ROMs and Rooted Firmware. My Nexus S was even repaired free of charge 2 years out of warranty with no questions asked. Wish they would bring back Nexus Devices again aimed at developers

    • @finalarbitrator4551
      @finalarbitrator4551 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Super Soap well, it's build quality is mostly okay for the price but some models are really weak. VFM is good. It's loaded with features. But it's UI feels really cheap and the ads keep popping up almost every two minutes which is really annoying. Updates are a bit slow and after sales service is not too good. Overall it's good for the price but it is not what it's fans overhype it out to be. A few years back there were some security issues too.
