Hello, Friend! Have you ever tried Brazilian Erva Mates? They are easier on the caffeine. Smoother but delicious. Uruguayan ones give me headaches/stomachaches bc of the caffeine content! But i still drink them a lot (1/2L dont seem to affect me that much). Baldo is easier on my head and stomach and to me the flavour is richer and smoother (it has a very long flavor in my mouth). Love from Brasil! Edit: by ervas brasileiras i meant the fine cut. Almost powder brazilian cut! Also try moida-grossa! Also powder but with some leaves and a more intense flavor! That one is my favorite.

Great review. Waiting for your Canarias review and comparison. I became a high end aficionado and drink it every day. I drink yellow Canarias but Serena is great too. I find Argentinian mates tricky in terms of caffeine contain because the taste is light but the caffeine punch is really strong, which I really enjoy. Examples, of this is Cruz de Malta, Taragui and Playadito, which tastes light but gives you a strong caffeine punch later, in my opinion.

I'd never much noticed before because I've always used small, traditional mates, but I recently started using an imperial. The caffeine hit from Playadito can get a bit too much for me if I'm not conscious of how much more I'm drinking in that enormous mate!
That's a very good erva. I buy it all the time here in Brazil, but I find it intense. I've been drinking Rei Verde Premium export (black package), it's also a very good erva but less intense in caffeine.

"P.U.1" .. that's right. you mentioned something that few people know when it comes to mate. There are not many brands pruducing a yerba of this quality.
Baldo... Canarias... are all brazilians mate brands... all produced in Brazil for uruguayans and local market. In Uruguay there are no yerba mate production and yerba plants. Baldo and Canarias are considered the best yerba mate premium brands on market.
I started off my yerba mate journey with Cruz de Malta which has been very good, but I do think I want to branch off and try a Uruguayan or Paraguayan mate. I've been weighing up getting some Canarias Serena or Baldo. (Normal Canarias is on my possibility list as well). I was and still am an avid tea drinker so bitterness is fine with me. What's your recommendation?
Hi, thanks for watching. I will get around to doing a video on Canarias Serena, which I'm also a big fan of, and would compare with Baldo. Serena has some extra herbs in it which mitigate the caffeine effects, whereas Baldo is pure yerba mate, but I'd say you won't go wrong with either.
@@TheAmbulatoryAnarchist thanks for the response. Do you think a regular bombilla could handle the more powdery cut of Uruguayan cut yerbas? I've been told that I should try getting a spoon bombilla.
Get a spoon bombilla or you will be super annoyed by constant clogging. And just to give my 5 cents on it, when i first tried a Paraguayan, after drinking CBSe and Canarias for a while, my experience was super bad. Way to smokey and to me it just taste like old smoked hay.
