The #1 thing I love aside from the Canes are the looks on the teams, coaches (especially Bobby Bowden) and the fans when they lose to Miami. Been a fan since 1978, will die a fan! Go Canes!
What Butch did after probation Created the greatest team Miami nay college football history Created the longest win streak due to his players Upset a top 5 team What golden did after probation 9-4, 6-7
My best friend went to the University of Miami. One day I flew down to visit him during college and I went to this very game. Having no stake in the game myself it was a hell of a game to enjoy! I was maybe the 4th or 5th person to jump the rail and rush the field after the game. Patted Moss and James on the shoulder pads. Great memory.
Scott Covington wore number 11 well. But, next year, another Freshman QB (Also from the state of California) would take number 11 and have a pretty nice Cane career.
@@Manny-nm8dh No, what happened was that bad call at the end of the game. Miami won. The ref throws a late flag and took the championship away from Miami and they loose in double overtime.
Butch is a hero in my book. Got my Canes 3 titles and the only coach to get my browns to the playoffs in my life. Edit: and yes, we did win 3 straight. "BCS" and "Pass interference"
@@corykarhoff5941 The phantom PI game. That Ohio State team was THE luckiest and most underwhelming champion of the BCS era. I'll give credit where due, that season they had a strong defense, but they barely scraped by half the teams on their weak schedule.

People tend to forget that not that long ago UCLA was one game away from the National Championship Game. The ending to that was painful to watch and I'm not even a UCLA fan. UCLA being good at football is great for college football. Hope the Bruins can get back on their feet. Geaux Tigers.
That game brought the program back, and if Butch Davis would not have left for the NFL Miami would’ve won multiple national championships. Edgerrin James was a man amongst boys that day.
As a Bruin fan, this was easily the toughest loss in 20 years of watching them (and there have been a lot of them!). I do miss McNown...the man could sling the rock. Step 1 - take back LA, Step 2 - become a national player. Go Bruins!
As usual, stellar job again canefreak and a million and one thanks. Couple awesome plays: 5:48 Santana has his head turned completely around toward the backfield and STILL burns the corner. 7:27 Ed Reed as a freshman makes the one play that perhaps alters the courses of both programs for almost a decade. 8:19 Try that move today and see what happens. I've been waiting for this vid for a long time. UCLA has never recovered from that day in the Orange Bowl.
I remember watching this game. In the 3rd q I was so pissed i threw my show at the TV and turned it off I couldn't believe they were goi g to let uclq beat them. Then I turned it on in rhe 4th and I cried like a baby when they won
Well, in every way imaginable 1998 was a great year for me....until that December. I was kicking butt professionally and personally and the cherry on top was this UCLA football season. Then, the roof caved in! :-) It's hard to look at this game. As one of the Bruin faithful, I hope for a program capable of fielding a team like this again. Sure, it had a porous defense, but they were fun to watch and they had one hell of a leader at QB.
No, because we only won 9 games the year after. IMHO, the game that signaled the program had turned the corner was the 2000 FSU game, AKA "Wide Right 3".
These announcers are horrible. Can't get Miami players names right, love how the one guy says miami offense has slowed down, the edge runs for 45 yrds.
The fumble was a lot closer than some people are making it out to be. With no replay its pretty obvious the ball was going to be called loose. That was a freshman Ed Reed than knocked that ball out, by the way.
At the time, this was game was a huge blow for what was then the Pac-10. This was the first year of the BCS, and the conference was beginning to lose a little respect. No team to win or play for the [mythical] national champion since Washington in the '91-'92 season (which was a split with Miami); no consensus poll champion since USC in the early '70s, and the perception nationally was that it was turning into an offensive league with average defensive play.
I'd feel that the hidden aspect of this how the Road to The Super Bowl was Broken in Tucson. UCLA and K-State should've been in the title game, Tennessee got so fucking lucky with Arkansas completely giving them the game weeks before. KSU and UCLA each had a bad luck fumble that cost them their final game.
Playing against Miami who had a couple future hall of famers no lead is safe. One bogus fumble call lost the game plain and simple. It sure as hell didn't help ucla
Huh? We did not have future Hall of Famers when UCLA put up that big lead? They were all college football players dude. Some just got better. One play doesn't cost any team a game I said that when we lost one national championship to OSU and a chance to go vs ND. I will say it here too. Jimmy Johnson said it best to his own team. You have to be good enough to overcome officials mistakes or you aren't good enough period.
Christopher Wright ed reed and edgerin James are hall of famers who played in this game.
