  • Reflexive verbs in Spanish, those that put pronouns like “me”, “se” or “te” before or after the verb, can get REAL tricky. Especially, when the same verb can be used as non-reflexive, like “ir” and “irse”. The questions becomes: when do I use each? Well, since there’s a definite difference between the two, even in concept! We decided to clear it out for you. Click play to learn how to tell them apart and use them like a pro!

    It's amazing how in Spanish very often you can understand a sentence okay with if you understand the individual words, but understanding how the words work together adds another context. I really appreciate this. Thanks so much!

    Thank you so much for this lesson. I have a question. Is this the same "se" that is used with the verb gustar? Such as "me gusta" and "te gusta"? If so can this "se" be used with other verbs like comprar or cocinar? Muchos gracias.

    I truly enjoy your videos and I appreciate the work you put into them. I have a question: your character says "LE pregunto a los demás si van y te confirmo" (at 52 seconds). Why doesn't she say "LES pregunto a los demás si van y te confirmo"? I thought "los demás" was plural. Thank you in advance.

    Otro video muy claro, muchas gracias Maura! Y siempre me sorprendes interpretando dos papeles tan convincentemente. ¡Admiro tus dotes actorales! . Por otro lado, colocar la llama de una vela temblorosa DENTRO de una librería no es una buena idea.... 🔥🤣 🧡

    Does “Tengo afán” work the same way as “me voy corriendo”?

    • @MauraSpringSpanish

      It must mean that somewhere, but in general "me voy corriendo" is far more common. =)=)=)

    I must admit that the use of reflexives in Spanish often seems utterly arbitrary (and capricious) to me and unattached to semantic distinctions.

    • @MauraSpringSpanish
      @MauraSpringSpanish ปีที่แล้ว

      Admit away! I feel ya, haha. Languages do feel quite arbitrary sometimes. =)=)=)

    Why do you pronounce the letter "v" as a "v" like in english? Isn't it normally pronounced as "b"?

    • @MauraSpringSpanish
      @MauraSpringSpanish ปีที่แล้ว

      I do both. I think it depends on the word, the speed and the emphasis. =)=)=) But yeah, the "b" sound is far more common.

  • @cacogenicist
    @cacogenicist ปีที่แล้ว

    "She goes to work walking."
    That word-to-word translation is somewhat odd in English. _Walking_ is her _job?_
    If _walking_ is the means by which she gets to her job, native English speakers are more likely to say "she walks to work."

    • @MauraSpringSpanish

      We do try to keep it so literal it gets funny sometimes. Thanks for the suggestion! =)=)=)
