Thank you for providing resources online. Our local school was turned into a Lucy Calkins workshop model with all the kids just guessing at words. We switched schools and are helping our children catch up with all the free resources available online.

I hope you make videos about teaching English as a foreign language.

Hi Alison. I'm from Egypt. your videos are very helpful. we teach English at the Kg. The main problem is the students who don't have linguistic score, even the most frequently words. we start with teaching them the names of animals, colors, numbers and vegetables. Should we teach them phonics at the same time? It's really very challenging for us as well as them.

Vocabulary acquisition is a great place to start! This of course helps with language skills of "every day life." You could do this orally though for those words. And then I do think it's great to introduce phonics as well, starting with letters and sounds visually.

Do you have the student repeat the blending line page all 4 star times in a row or do you do one star a day across 4 days? Have a blessed day! Thank you for all you share!

You could do it either way! They could work on reading the page multiple times in one sitting or over a few days! Whatever works best for you!

How can I help my 8 year old daughter who reads above grade level, yet struggles with phonics (I think awareness?)

      Here's a blog that explains the terms - learningattheprimarypond.com/blog/phonics-terms-that-every-k-2-teacher-should-know/
Also, here's a free diagnostic assessment so that you can better pinpoint what your daughter may need support with: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Free-Phonics-Diagnostic-Assessment-7565061

Curious whether your school is talking a lot about science of reading - type YES or NO in the comments.

No, but teaching children who do not use English as their home language, I have found that explicit phonics instruction is paramount.
