  • Join us for another episode on location in Gettysburg with Will Eichler and Joseph Stahl who is one of the authors of the Faces of Union Soldiers: Culp’s Hill . They are near Spangler’s Spring at the 2nd Massachusetts monument telling the story of the surgeon of the regiment. They have his CDV image with them as they talk about his service at Gettysburg and in the war. An amazing way to connect with history is to go to where it happened, then hear or read a soldier's story that was there, and see what he saw.

    Thanks for a great vlog
I’m British and have been researching the medical provisions in the ACW. Your vlogs are so good they give so much information which is invaluable for future generations who need to know this time in USA history

Sounds like happened to the First Battalion of Maryland Inf. CSA. They too came through Rock Creek and formed at the top of Pardee Field and moved directly toward the 12th Corp. who were behind entrenchments on Culp's Hill.
The Marylander were slaughtered to include their black lab. The 2nd Maryland as they were also known never did recover from Gettysburg. My ancestors faced each other, one from the 2nd Md. Infantry (John and Thomas McCready) and First Maryland Eastern Shore Infantry. (Conner, deserted after or before battle, still uncertain) The Park service allowed our unit to put on a living history there at Spangler Springs. Stayed over night for two days there. I think the Park Service was notified of possible remains on a ridge near by. I don't know what that outcome was.
