- It is great to be back at Upper Iowa University with Mike Huston, a collector, to hear the story about an amazing collection of items. These are things that were carried, used, and collected by a veteran of the 12th Iowa Infantry. There are some unique items and stories with the collection that Mike shares with Will that you are sure to enjoy.

Michael heads an excellent Iowa Civil War Facebook group. His commitment to that group, research, and preservation is astounding.
Thank you for the kind words. For anyone on Facebook and interested the group is called “Iowa Civil War Images.” It’s a private group, so just search it up and say you’ll follow the rules and I’ll accept your request. We have over 2,500 identified images of Iowa soldiers that were taken during war time.
I'm lucky enough to be the custodian of more than a few civil war artifacts, one of my favorite pieces is a bloodstained Tactics manual that was found on the body of a member of Company C 6th Iowa at the site of their defense at Shiloh. If that book could talk.
Do you have a name for the soldier? The 6th Iowa Infantry is a unit that there are a lot of images of.
Wow....that's commitment.
Outstanding, Michael. I love the Sherman's Medal you are wearing! Another Iowa grouping being brought to light. Thank you, Will for allowing us to tell these stories. Huzzah!
Thank you kindly!
Thank you. The Sherman Badge and hanger is an original, but the 17th Corps badge is most likely post war. My GGG grandfather served in the 11th Iowa, so I’m always looking for 17th corps badges. It’s also common to see 11th Iowans pictured with the Sherman’s Badge at their time of muster out.
Love to see this history not only being preserved but now being shared.
Glad you enjoy!!
What an amazing collection. Well done sir.
As a collector myself I can understand his excitement over acquiring such a grouping. I have a couple of sword groupings but they're small in comparison. Thank you for sharing this treaure.
Great video! I love seeing Filos original blanket. Thanks for sharing!
It’s amazing. I have debated on making some reproductions for reenacting. It has a lot of very unique qualities.
What a fantastic collection. I'm glad I was able to see it through this video. Thanks! Top notch as always guys!
Thrilled you enjoyed!
sweet Enfield
It is sweet.
Holy crap!!! I have one of those sabers!!! Mine is engraved on the spine of the blade in some different language!
Thanks for the great videos
We are glad you enjoy!
I would really like to know what the dollar figure of such a documented collection would sell for just out of curiosity, for sure so cool.
SO cool. Thank you.
Excellent video!
Our Museum has original blanket on display same as the one you showing
Is it identified to a certain soldier or unit?
@michaelhuston7122 no it's not it came into the museum with alot of ww2 artifacts it sit in storage till I started working there and noticed it
Always a good day when the Digest uploads!
Glad you enjoy!
Outstanding story!
Thanks!!
Of the 19 men mentioned, how many survived the war, if known?
I don’t have my “University Recruits” book with me, but I know it gives a detailed list of casualties. I will get back with you.
Roger Bowen is my uncle!
Cool!
Is this collection available for viewing at the university or is it kept in a private location?
The University has some great items from the University Recruits and we touch on some of those in a previous episode. The items shared in this episode are all privately held.
