Thank you so much! Can you hint at what part of the production you like? I am still very much learning how to make engaging videos and can use all the feedback I can get!
Beautiful trees and interesting idea on the maple! Speaking of which, what wondrous species: I’ve got cuttings with all the care and they died, I’ve stuck in the planter the small branches I cut and left them there during all winter and now they are leafing out!!!
Yes, maple can be really odd when it comes to rooting. I have noticed the same. Nothing works. Then you toss it aside and in the compostheap one starts to root.
@@GrowingBonsai not to bad extremely busy, but staying focused on how to best take care of my family and myself. Thank you for asking! How have you been?
I am a newbie, I have 4 apple tree seedling.. grown since Feb.. I had 3 out of 5 Red Maple seedling but very slight.. lost 1 last week now just 2. I've reported as got waterlogged so still really hoping for them to pick up..🤞 I also have a few conker shoot come up thus week so need to see when best to repot them.. I will be watching more of your vids. As only found a couple who show right from seed.. all the best x
Hey Maryanne, good to hear! I agree, there is way too little attention for growing bonsai from seed. Not all of us are too old to see one grow into something nice, and .. to me, the process is enjoyable, from the first seed popping up, to the refinement stage.
Great video Jelle. I have an American Hornbeam that's ready for repot so I can thicken the trunk as well. You mentioned you're going slow. How much wider and deeper maybe just a few inches either way?
I have several American hornbeam, they grow like crazy, and thicken up fairly quickly, there also really easy to manage the growth thru clip and grow allowing for great branch movement. So you can take your pot size up several inches. I use colanders to grow out as they will air prune roots and allow for several years of growth in one colander.
Yes, good point. I have many things to grow out in larger containers. When I got this tree I was originally not thinking about fattening up. But now that I am letting it grow thicker I should indeed move it into a bigger pot. Hm. Thanks :)!
Hi @johncontract7855, Going slow to ceate tigher internodes. But Kyle makes a good point. Certainly if the aim is to fatten rather than grow taller, everything that grows will be chopped off and then slow might not be needed. However.. THe look and feel of bark etc also changes with slow vss fast growing so not sure what the best result will be.
I would love to know what the differences are between the various varieties of Hornbeam. Not a species I am familiar with (in Australia), but I love the movement and character of this one!
Hey Rebecca, in short, the European Hornbeam has MUCH bigger leaves and is a hare in growth compared to the others. Oriental and Korean look similar (But the leaf shape is slightly different). Oriental hornbeam grows faster than the Korean.
I'm so glad the Maple survived!!
You and me both Nigel!
I really enjoyed this video Jelle. All your usual combination of great info and production. 😉

Welcome!
👍👌👌🙂🙂
:D
What did you brush the trunk of the hornbeam with there at the end?
It is an anti-algea liquid: th-cam.com/video/9bFu40Pfen8/w-d-xo.html
How much /when do you water after re potting?
I flush the pots directly after potting, twice with a 20 minute interval. After that, I water as normal, when the substrate starts to get dry.
As you can see from the beginning of the video befor it starts that is the correct angle to pot the tree ✌️
Maybe it is
