From what I'm picking up it was something about how many people reacted to the hard work that went into the video with derision, or with just picking out the bits that made it funny instead of being an especially insightful look into Mario 64's oddities.

I started out as a Rolling Rocks bandwagonner and thought the remember thinking the whole thing was just so over the top that I couldn’t help but laugh. I grew to love the A press challenge over the years, but even at the beginning I think more people were in awe of the ludicrous amount of dedication going into the whole thing than people were actually making fun of it. I honestly think a major reason the memes took off like they did is because of how enthralling this little pocket of gaming culture is in the first place. It’s fascinating and enchanting and stubborn and inspiring, and it makes those who take the time to understand it (even a little) happy.
