When your balls are the size of watermelons you have to unbuckle to prevent damage to them because, well, naturally rough landings + harness tends to cause chaffing.

@Bla Bla True. It's safer these days. But they still happen. We always remember previous accidents. Especially the big ones. We still haven't found the Malaysian aircraft that crashed a few years ago. In this day and age, with all our new technology, and a massive Boeing 777 still hasn't been found.

@@raflaughter3474 The last time I had a look at the Malaysian 777 that disappeared, it said that several parts of the plane have been found (washed up) on the Eastern coast of Africa. Also, nobody is really looking for it anymore, so it will probably remain this way. However, something about the story stinks, especially with another Malaysian 777 being shot down within a few weeks.

@Bla Bla The aviation industry is as safe as it is today because of the many lessons learned through the loss of life. If the industry stops teaching the lessons because planes don't crash anymore I guarantee they will again.
When it comes to CRM there have been several accidents that could have been prevented. CRM needs to be taught in a way that will give you a mental master caution alert before a situation is beyond recovery.

The film is a re-enactment of the incident, lacked accuracy by the actors.

@@ClassicAviationTV I know it was filmed in a simulator depicting the actual events in the cockpit of that 727. I think in the real world all three pilots survived.

This video was 100% fictional. The final FAA finding states that the 1st officer had no recollection of events leading up to and immediately after the crash (he suffered massive head trauma) and that the CVR and its tape were destroyed by the resulting fire. The Captain and the 2nd officer surely wouldn't incriminate them selves by relating the above abuse.
Also Finding #7 on page 29 reads:
"There is no evidence that the first and second officers apprised the captain of his departure from prescribed procedures and safe practices, or that they acted in any way to assure a more professional performance, except for the comment by the first officer, when near the threshold, that they were high after which he lowered the flaps to 40'."

MyTech they typically retire the number when it’s involved with a fatal crash.

@@chipjumper The accident happened ages ago, in a time where social media didn't exist. People won't know about the crash unless they go looking for it.
Not the first time this happened. American Airlines still flies Flight 1 from New York to Los Angeles, even though they had a crash in 1962. Heck, it even made it into a prominent plot point in the second season of Mad Men, but still AA Flight 1 flies on.
