    Like your idea to make the bucket an even more robust kit. I’m glad it’s good. I have some to taste test, they actually only sent me the oatmeal and pasta, the real hard to mess up ones, lol. They are more expensive than some other brands, but as you said, the ingredients are good. Thanks for the honest opinion.

      @@marko11kram If we're talking actual survival, then sure. But certain dried vegetable items could not be rehydrated. No amount of soaking or heating could remedy the situation. I felt like I was choking down dried chunks of caulk or Liquid Nails, and my bowels were in an uproar later. So if we want to speculate about risk of self-inflicted injury in a SHTF scenario, these considerations are practical and necessary.

    I challenge you----- Do a two week stint on eating nothing but something from this, or any of these survival buckets.
    Much like The Urban Prepper did a few years ago with the ration/lifeboat bars.
    AND cook them using fuel / stoves from your preps
    and do a daily vid on how it goes

      This would be a worthwhile challenge. Better to find out now if there are any unexpected health risks or unanticipated fuel costs to surviving on a survival-food item.

      @@PlasmaBurns I was going to let this go, but you're wrong and I need to clarify it for you since you don't understand the nature of these food items. All of these food items come with nutrition labels. As far as I know, it's the law. And this means that one can most definitely calculate whether one is taking in the necessary nutrition one needs. These preparedness food items are intended to be more than merely calories.

    Having more than 1 or 2 servings per pouch is problematic. The one with 10 servings in the pouch, how are you supposed to store that after the fact your open it? How long with that pouch contents last after it's open?

    • @TheLordHumungus
      @TheLordHumungus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I pretty much ignore all 'servings' and just go by calories, and in that case the pouches are really just normally 2 meals.
      The pouches reseal like a ziploc, So with dry goods like this there is no reason why you can't just leave it in the pouch for at least several days

    Seems like it takes a lot more energy (and attention) to cook when you compare it to pouring some hot water in a bag of Mountain House. Unless it is way cheaper than MH, no thanks.

    • @manofthetombs

      I agree, but I use a pan with my MH (actually ALL) freeze dried meals. For me, eliminating the taste of Mylar from my food, makes it immediately more palatable. More labor intensive, yes, but tastier

    I havent found any food storage products that taste good. They all seem to have a bland chemical taste. The good news is since almost all of these products are made within days or weeks of you buying, (high demand, moving product) it means you get the full 20+ year shelf life and dont have to worry about buying something thats been sitting on the shelf for 2-5 years.

    I wanted to order the sampler pack of Valley Food Storage in order to test things out. I liked that it was pretty cheap to get a test run, but ran into problems. As I was ordering, their were multiple upsells that I wanted to avoid. I clicked decline on one and when I got to the next screen, I was met with yet another upsell. Though, this upsell didn't have an "Add this to your order" button. Instead, it said, "Complete this order." And, being late and just going through the motions, I didn't realize it was a different item. The pictures look the same so I just thought I was completing the order. No, I added another item and spent more money...
    I was annoyed, but it happens. Within 10 minutes of placing the order I requested a cancellation cause it just didn't sit right with me and felt a little deceptive. No harm though. Just cancel and move on. No big deal. The rub, and why I am now posting on this video is cause I get told that I couldn't cancel because it already shipped and that in order to avoid charges I had to go through the hoops of denying delivery from DHL. So now I am annoyed that I not only couldn't just avoid this whole debacle, I have to also jump through hoops for it.
    Just a terrible, deceptive, and hassle of a customer service experience. I'm sure that the food might be alright, but I don't want to find out. Good luck to anyone else who orders through them.

    I also learned you can get very sick eating just these meals. Apparently these are for 1-3 meals a week or something very low like that, not supposed to be a 3 meal a day replacement.

    • @TheLordHumungus
      @TheLordHumungus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm sure that can happen with some of the companies that put a ton of preservatives and cheap ingredients, but why would somebody get sick from eating anything in these? Unless they are allergic to an ingredient or something.

    Valley Food Storage varies the types of meals it puts in those food buckets, and this is why they do not put a contents label on the buckets. Only when you open a bucket will you know what specific meals they put in there. There are certain types of instant meals that I do not like (cream of wheat and chili mac) so I would never take a gamble getting a disliked and expensive meal. If you are less fussy than me about the type of meal, then this would be a fine bucket of instant food to have.
    Most instant meals from food storage companies lack enough meat and non-starchy veggies. If you want real meat and enough veggies in your instant meal, go with pouches of Mt. House meals. You could put a #10 can of freeze-dried meat or green veggies in the bottom of that Valley Food Storage bucket and still have room to add the bags of the instant food. This would give you a better amount of protein or dietary fiber. Plan on boosting the calories of a "serving" of one of these instant meals with the addition of separately cooked rice, pasta, oatmeal or homemade bread. I aim for 667 calories or so per meal in order to get 2000 calories per day during a disaster.

    I got this email saying something about 45 servings for $50 from Valley food, so I was just wondering if it would be worth buying that stuff. I Love Teriyaki chicken, but I prefer my pineapples in a fruit bowl instead. So I would probably taste test something I enjoy. Maybe chicken ala king would taste okay for me, isn't that just chicken pot pie without the crust?

    • @Lavenderrose73
      @Lavenderrose73 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I guess that was $50 off, not $50 for the kit. It's actually $79 instead of $129. Well, maybe another time since I have a bit of a tight budget right now.

    Try to save some pouches and pop them in your mouth in 3 years, then some in 5, and some in 10, eh?
    Whether you do that or not, can you note the storage temperature. How many estimated hours are they under 20 F in your garage ... how many over 110? That wouldn't have to be a harsh chore; just do an estimate based on daily highs and lows at each year end.

    • @TheLordHumungus
      @TheLordHumungus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
