I just changed mine...I have the 4r100 trans..much tighter space to get to it. Did not have to jack up vehicle..just laid on my back...crawled under and have to get it from drivers side. Removed screw did what you did , pretty simple..just lined up the screw opening pushed in trans ..tightened screw and plugged connected in .done. your hands Williams get a little dirty..but that's about it.
I see a plug in sensor on the rear axle transfer case I believe. (I’m learning my truck and not always right with names/terms) is that what I’m looking for?
What do you mean by a plug in sensor? Are you looking at the rear diff? That is not where this sensor is, it is on the transmission in the middle of the truck.
Hello this looks to be from about 3 years ago but i have a 2004 f150 5,4 l and when i put it in drive its like netural but sometimes it will catch when the RPM is high and slam into geat but usually i drop it into 2nd and roll a little then back to drive and its good till i slow down and it does it again and it may do it a little in 2nd once in a while, any idea ?

The gear was black on my 99 Ford F-150 and the end was chew up I order five new gears installed one made no difference I thought perhaps the assembly so I ordered a cluster with 107,000 install that still got no speedometer but it’s giving me error code for the speed sensor Any suggestions
You mean the gear on the sensor is getting chewed up? If it is then the gear that turns it must be damaged inside the tranny. Stupid they make it of plastic it should be a steel gear.
@@chriss4365you would think they would do that because if it was you that made the part you would want your craftsmanship to help so you have pleased customers which in the long run gives you more business .
I had a transfer case output seal leak that drained my trans fluid out. So I was having trouble with cold starts was getting a trans fault message with o/d light blinking
What i meant was it stops from the rubber seal then it pops in fast once you overcome that resistance. Its kinda like a pop but not really. Sorry for the confusion. Push it in and put the bolt and should be no issues.
I didn't know speed sensor had a gear. I thought it was just the round circular surface. Didn't know a gear suppossed to be attached to speed sensor. Maybe thats why when i changed my sensor my truck still wouldn't go in drive. Possibly because i didn't put on the gear. Tell me; where can you purchase a gear? I have 02 F150.
I changed it because my speedometer was having issues. The issue ended up being the cluster so I replaced it for nothing. No software change just reset the computer after changing it.
right now my 01 f150 is having problem getting to speed and wont let me go into first or second without dying, when i did the scan, it pop up the speed sensor... would that be right?

I'm trying to order one for a 4R70W 2WD for a 1998 F-150, but it's asking how many teeth. Someone stole my whole sensor with the gear on it, so I have no idea. When I replaced the sensor, it didn't come with a new gear. My speedometer wasn't working after I rebuilt the transmission, didn't even know there was supposed to be a gear on the damn sensor until I saw this video. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that they don't send a new gear with the sensor.
I want to know why you didn't clean that gear and put some transmission fluid on it and then put it on the new speed sensor that's what I call half-ass work
I didn't know that the speed sensor had a gear. When i changed my sensor my truck still wouldn't go in drive. Maybe because it didn't have the gear attached to the sensor?
I doubt that was the issue the sensor just measures speed I'm sure it can work without it you just wont have a reading on the speedometer. Sorry for the late reply.

What were the symptoms to cause you to replace?
Issue with speedometer but the issue ended up being I had to manually move the needle on the speedometer to get correct speed.
I had a transfer case output seal leak that drained my trans fluid out. So I was having trouble with cold starts was getting a trans fault message with o/d light blinking
It eventually led to me getting a check engine light and once I went to auto zone to do the test the code p0720 came up suggesting to change this part
I still have to change it and the leak so I’m hoping that’s the fix when I get a chance
