Thank you for showing my home town Vieste. My father was born and raised in Vieste until my parents moved to Ontario Canada. I was born a yr later July 1960 in Ontario Canada but when I was 2 days old my Nonno registered my birth in Vieste City Hall.which makes me a citizen of Vieste. I have been to Vieste many many times and stayed with my parents to visit all my relatives. It’s a very beautiful Paese. My little Brother Andrea (Andy) had a restaurant right across street from the Pizzomonno Beach. Called La Scorpacciata.
Hi Lina, very glad to read your message and to know the history about your parents and of Vieste of course... it's a stunning town indeed... good memories also for me when I was there - Wish I could be back actually
Amazing video! My mother was born in Vieste. And came to the USA as a child. I now import olive oil from Vieste to the USA. This video was perfect. Grazie.
AJ, reading something like this is truly something for me.. so cool to know that you also import olive from there... olive from Puglia., one cannot ask for a better one actually from Italy, so...! Thank you so much and glad you found the video well filmed. I should have a couple more in Puglia to upload, but next year will surely visit it again. Outstanding region... there's everything there, food, culture, seaside, nature, people...
The beautiful old stonework, the narrow streets & surprises around every corner - what a lovely way to see the world from your own armchair ! Thank you. I especially love the gorgeous blue sea suddenly appearing in view as you wander around - this place is somehow comforting, you can feel the history of the many generations. I have stayed in a Masseria south of Brindisi some years back, and loved it, the constant bright sunshine & the olive trees everywhere were lovely, it was hot (for a Brit) but a wonderful experience.
Glad you enjoyed Vieste Veronica - I can understand totally your feelings there, as I'm from near Rome and it's rather "exotic" for me as well I must say. Every time it's like going to another country more or less, dialect included) Loved Vieste... as you can see I try to focus on less touristy places mostly (not only, but...) so glad they can be enjoyed. I was in Puglia once again very briefly last weekend and I filmed a stunning town, Giovinazzo. I hope to post it this friday... I'll surely go there more often in the coming weeks. Puglia and Abruzzo are two regions I simply adore for some unknown reasons... visceral ones I guess.
Glad you enjoyed it Gina. Vieste is truly beautiful, agreed with you. Great memories from that day as well... Soon I'll show more towns from Puglia region. Wish you a nice week ahead and ciao! Riccardo
I am first generation Calabrian and (unfortunately) live in the United States. My wife and I traveled to Italy three times between 2015 and 2018, and would have continued if it weren't for the pandemic. Each time, we go to Vieste. There is something about this town that is so familiar, it is like knowing an image, only from seeing its shadow. I loved going through the streets in this video, and have been to many of these places. Grottino on the quay wall is like some sort of psychic museum. Its host Pasquale Colangelo knew I was strangely tied to this place, and without knowing anything about me, having never seen me before, he sensed my longing. My wife and I, and our three friends were seated near the cellar in the Grottino. Colangelo began to play Caruso from his CD table, exclaiming, "this song is dedicated to all the immigrants!" I started crying in my pasta bolognese, and made a new friend that day. I remember this place everyday, and would return every day, walking outside on its weathered white marble and granite street, the turquoise sea spray bashing the wall, while opera music comes from Colangelo's CD player. This is a beautiful region of Italy, and frankly, when we travel to Italy, we go to out of the way places like this. Nearby is Vieste's wonderful twin, Peschici.
Vincenzo, this message really hit me quite strongly... it's nice to provide, as little as I can, some emotions through wandering in towns , famous or not-famous, that people toured before.. or saw before. Beautiful story about Pasquale and the Caruso CD... I can relate, in a little way, as I lived abroad for some years too. It's a "come-home" in a way... I toured also Peschici, actually I did 2 videos there, one at dusk full of people and one during the day, almost empty and very windy.. I'll upload too. Soon I'll upload. I wish you a plaesant weekend and thank you again Riccardo
@@StillWanderer I look forward to your video of Peschici. We have been there twice, discovering it on our second trip to Italy. There is a lovely agriturismo in the valley where we stay, able to walk the country roads to Peschici. I recall walking the country road there and was joined by a herd of beautiful goats, some with blueish, black and golden-auburn fur, and long knurled horns. It was as if I stepped back in time, to some former life. We are drawn to these out of the way places, and our experiences are full of the most serendipitous people and interactions, some enduring, some comical, but all an active memory I can't shut off. Vieste has such stunning sea views. I love the architecture of the different buildings in this town. There was an interesting one with mirrors outside on the walls. The storefronts were very attractive with their displays and creative signs. The cat with the stolen food in its mouth had me laughing.
Luoghi, cibo, cultura. È sempre uno spettacolo
Hi Conor, indeed... it was unusually calm and quiet. Lots of people were in the other parts of the city I saw, especially the newer parts, but in the historicla centre... very few. Many on the seaside or beaches though... it was a Sunday evening walk, just a few days ago!

Love Puglia and I will post more; even thinking to go back there maybe at the end of August
I liked the end bit where you just left it on the wall. I LOVE people watching & just watching cars etc go by.
Chunky Buscuit, thanks! I am actually trying to do that on newer videos now... like...10 minutes of ambient sounds. Maybe ni the future I'll make also a full video of the montage of all of them, hours long... what do you think?
Glad this new idea can be enjoyed!
@@StillWanderer It can't hurt trying it & see what everyone else thinks too. 😊👍
Take care.

absolutely fabulous thank you Riccardo 🌷🌷
Many thanks Dear Shaima!!
Looks like Vieste is now in my bucketlist
Truly beautiful town.. agreed
Very nice scenery. Thank you very much. Don't think I would actually make it to Vieste when staying in Bari this autumn.🙏
My pleasure , glad you enjoyed it. Oh would love to film Bari too actually, maybe in the future...
Amazing walking experience. It's a beautiful historical city. Watching from Germany.
Thank you very much!
Vieste has such stunning sea views. I love the architecture of the different buildings in this town. There was an interesting one with mirrors outside on the walls. The storefronts were very attractive with their displays and creative signs. The cat with the stolen food in its mouth had me laughing. This is one of the things that makes your video tours so special, it's the unexpected moments. Really beautiful town with so much history. Saw a sign referring to a Museum. Was it closed on this particular day?
Glad you enjoyed it Dear Lang, indeed, such a pleasant city ...loved its atmosphere. That cat....)
I don't remember the museum, at what minute?
@@StillWanderer At 40:55 there is a building with flags and a sign: "Museo Malacologico" in the Piazza Vittorio Emanuelle II.
@@ACLang-hj9np I see it now Lang 🤞 I didn't notice while there while filming :( it seems closed from the film
@@StillWanderer No problem. It's a museum dedicated to fossils, shells and corals.
@@ACLang-hj9np Yup Lang, went searching a bit now in internet.. definitely looks interesting; I will actually try sometimes to film also inside, if the owners are ok with that. It would be very interesting I guess. Wish you a nice evening my dear friend

Luoghi, cibo, cultura. È sempre uno spettacolo
What a beautiful town and coastline! I am moving to Florence on October 1st and I absolutely cannot wait! Perhaps I can visit Vieste one day. ❤🇮🇹
Ciao Paul! It's Indeed a town to be discovered in Puglia..not the most famous per se, but very charming
This place looks amazing. Amazing video!!
Thanks so much!
italy is the greatest country
👋😇🌹
The town looks quiet, was this video taken off season/early in the morning?
Hi Conor, indeed... it was unusually calm and quiet. Lots of people were in the other parts of the city I saw, especially the newer parts, but in the historicla centre... very few. Many on the seaside or beaches though... it was a Sunday evening walk, just a few days ago!
38:35 😀😁😂 that little cat thief had a fish in its mouth. It sure was in a hurry!
Hah Avery, indeed. it was quite funny and he looked at me briefly too) Guilty character

Another great walk of yours that I'm looking forward to doing this weekend. Thank you! By the way, is the Still Driver channel also you? Driving between walks?
Hi Nebbs!, yup)) Glad you enjoyed the video! I like the driving videos also, as I watch them from other countries often, in Japan mostly!

The trabucco was obviously inspired by the trebuchet -an medieval siege machine that was designed to hurl huge rocks at city walls -a kind of giant sling. The Italian word for "trebuchet" is actually "trabucco."

So gorgeous along the water. Though I’m curious why so few people were out.
it was quite strange in fact... as it was a full summer day. I suspect people were just away on the beach though
