    **Edit: like many channels, we're getting spam replies to comments. If it's my picture but not my channel name, you know it's not me!! ** Long one this time! And man is it hard to charge, film, edit and upload when you have no mains power and you're deep in the woods!
    Anyway, what are your thoughts on the controller and also that protruding gimbal? Appreciate the new upward and portrait mode but some side protection could have been incorporated....🤔 Cheers, Ian

      @alessioaxelflorioadventure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      About the protrunding gimbal it is not a design falw. It is like that to allow the gimbal to tilt 60° up. It is a choice. Then yes it is more likelyto break if you crash. So don't crash. Great video as usual.

    • @LamboPhoto
      @LamboPhoto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alessioaxelflorioadventure But it isn't "our choice" 😉 The new 60° upward tilt explains why the body doesn't overhang the gimbal, like on the Mini 2, but it doesn't explain why they haven't added gimbal protection elsewhere, like the sides. The sides only need to be a couple mm in front of the gimbal to provide protection - and this would not interfere with the image. I would much rather gimbal protection than upward tilt - but it would have been possible to have both.

    • @alessioaxelflorioadventure
      @alessioaxelflorioadventure 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@LamboPhoto Yes very thuth, but perhaps doing as you say they would have gone over 249 grams. I don't know i think that if this would have been possible they would have done it or they made a small mistake, this is possible. I can live with that anyway.

    • @thevideoark
      @thevideoark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The upward tilting camera is a massive upgrade but yes I too would be twitchy about hitting something head on. Yes I’d look at after market protection but this may well take it over weight so I would have to resort to my A2CofC and it’s limitations.

      I would argue that it's quite rare to fly directly into a solid object (esp with forward collision avoidance). Most crashes are due to the props catching or arm hitting something, then falling to the ground. But the issue with the bottom gimbal joint makes sense. :) Thanks for the great review

    Good video Ian the gimbal does stick out true but then I suspect there is no way you can have a protective overhang as then you wouldn't get the same angle of camera view upwards. The obstacle avoidance should help protect the gimbal though.

  • @chriscflint
    @chriscflint 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When hovering the angle is noticable but it is there for a good reason, that being when in flight the nose dips down and then the obstacle sensors are perfectly placed, whereas the AIR 2S needs the second set of sensors on the top to cater for forward movement. Smart decision.

  • @StrickleeFpv
    @StrickleeFpv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The gimbal sticks out because it won’t have that gimbal flick in sport mode that nose on the mini 2 is actually a design flaw because as it tilts in the wind the gimbal hits the nose and causes it to flick back level . That’s why the air 2 and s have that wide open area so it stays put in sport . Very cool video hopefully one day I can afford one lol 😂

    Re the protruding gimbal, DJI was probably thinking, well how will they crash it if it has obstacle avoidance sensors?
    I know most novice pilots probably will crash it, even with obstacle avoidance but I guess that was their thinking when they designed the gimbal and it's vulnerable position!
    As for the speed of gaining a good GPS signal amongst trees 🌳 that's always a slower process. 👍⚠️
    Agree the Mini 3 is noticeably quieter, anyone who needs that 'stealth' capability will be pleased about that. 👍😀
    Very poor that it doesn't come with a dedicated charger after spending all that money!
    I don't agree 'everyone has a suitable charger anyway', when I sold my old phone the Samsung galaxy s10 I sold it with the charger, when I got my new Samsung galaxy s21 it didn't come with a charger like most new devices seem to be following!
    I'm still without a proper charger and have to use my wife's s20 charger which hers came with one!

    Hi Ian
    Thanks for this INDEPENDENT review. So much better than the influencer reviews DJI probably fund!
    I have been reading a lot recently about the new RC controller and the drone having poor signal!
    I know people have a fixation about range tests But surely signal quality is what counts. So I suppose if signal quality is there then the stated range should be there too. I thought occusync 3 would be performing better than some people are experiencing with the 3 pro with the new RC controller.
    Reports of signal loss at relatively short ranges in relatively ideal surroundings!
    do you think this could be solved by firmware, or do you think external receivers should be on the remote like RC Pro?
    Have you noticed anything regarding signal quality? Is it just the new RC or is it the drone or both? Does it happen with the old controller?
    Look forward to your take on this
    KR
    Neil

      In direct line of sight, under 600 m, I've had no issues, but trees seem to cause signal loss earlier than expected.... I still have to do more testing...👍🏻👍🏻

      @@IaninLondon I'm also interested in seeing what signal and range others are getting. I trialed my Mini 3 Pro against my original Mini in identical scenarios and the Mini 1 actually outperformed it in 3 out of the 4 directions. I'm pretty disappointed with that aspect so far to be honest. Rest of the drone is ace.

    Regarding the protruding gimbal being bad design, I have to disagree. It allows the gimbal to tilt a lot more upwards, allowing some special filming angels without the house of the drone being the in way. Also the obstacle avoidance sensor will protect flying directly into an object, unless you are in sports mode.

      They could have designed the housing to protect from the sides; and OA is not infallible at all....

    • @curioussand1339
      @curioussand1339 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adding some protruding protections on the sides would hamper the OA a bit in the near below horizon range and also adding a bit more weight maybe causing other undesirable compromises to have been made.
      Anyway, I have bought 1 year refresh care on my sample, just in case ...

    To be fair, think of how hard the engineers have worked to get all that tech into 249g. Gimbal protector would be nice but they would have had to sacrifice strength somewhere else. I flew my mini 3 last night, really stable for something so light, I actually felt it flies better than my Air 2. You do have to watch the wind, the angle of attack when you are into the wind creates a lot of lift

    Hi Ian, thanks for that 👍. Got mine a couple of days ago but just waiting for a charger which I think will prove to be good for this (Minix 66w with interchangeable plugs - US,U.K.,Eur & Aus/NZ) if your likely to want to travel with your drone. Have to just comment as a retired designer - design is always a compromise and we expect each new drone to have a better camera and filming ability than the previous. So their decision was obviously to improve camera angle range at the expense of crash resistance. Of course anyone can have a mishap but also to consider is this an entry level drone? I would argue not really…. Anyway that’s my thoughts! Cheers Andy

    Very interesting first flight and first impressions Ian. Definitely the design with the front of the drone is lacking, especially if the first thing to hit is the camera/gimbal. Still a nice upgrade to the Mini 2. My pre-order is still stuck in a DJI warehouse somewhere in China even though I ordered within 15 minutes on release morning. I ordered the Mini3P with the RC (screened). I also ordered the FMC with the larger batteries. I did split the order to preclude the FMC from delaying the drone/RC. My hope is that DJI will do a firmware update to the DJI RC Pro that I already have to make it compatible with the Mini3P.

    So I have been a drone owner for about a month. I listened to many review and decided on the DJI Mavic air 2s. After racking up over 30 hours flight time I am still a novice, but as I love photography this brings a new spin on visual artistry.
    So am happily learning and then hear about the DJI Mini 3 pro, watched your review and my jaw hit the floor. It looks as if I could have got a better, lighter drone for less money 😮‍💨 - sobbing gently over my brew of tea.

    • @IaninLondon
      @IaninLondon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't sob. You have an incredible drone that in many ways is still better than the Mini 3. The Air 2S has a larger sensor taking 20Mp genuine stills. DJI bring out new stuff all the time. Enjoy your drone; it's still top of the class. :)

Love your so refreshing honest and knowledgeable reviews :) One red flag I have spotted reading the manual is that if you press RTH and the drone is less than 50M away it will not climb to RTH height setting but return directly at its current altitude. Maybe Obstacle avoidance will save it but not sure
