Why Leuprolide (Lupron Depot) Injections Didn't Help My Endometriosis [CC]

  • The leuprolide injections were my last ditch effort for easing my endometriosis. But it didn't help. In fact, it caused issues with my bones despite taking the required precautions. Here's my story.
Firstly a very important disclaimer: We all react differently to the various drugs out there and this experience is no different. I have quite a few health issues other than endometriosis, such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, adenomyosis, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and painful bladder syndrome (to name a few). Therefore this experience of mine, is mine alone - I'm just sharing what I've experienced. Please always seek the opinion of an endometriosis specialist before you decide on whether the leuprolide injection (lupron depot) is right for you.

I also have..... almost all your same conditions. And also had HUGE issues with Depo Lupron. I was on it for 9 months and then had a series of surgeries because no one's got time for that.

Wow, 9 months is a long time - how has your bone health been since then? And how are you doing now? I hope you are in a better place with your health now.

@@FootprintsNoBoundariesByShruti I've had a DEXA since then that was normal, but I'm under 40 still.

Thanks for sharing .currently on a 3 month injection further injections were not a part of my plan with my doctor but if they were I would decline. After 3 surgeries in 10 months it has helped me but the side effects are terrible

Any type of medication, plus the health condition and our own mental state - a combination of it all can take us through a whirlwind of emotions - plus you are taking medication which is looking to control your hormones so I guess some withdrawal symptoms should be expected. I would suggest speaking to your doctor about this especially if it starts to trouble you more than would be okay with.
And yes, I hope so too that you don't need another surgery. Good luck on your journey of health.

Yes, despite the support I get, the experience of all the symptoms can make you feel so alone. I remind myself that at least I do have so much external support so even if I feel lonely, I know I have people to share those raw emotions with. I hope you do too.

Hi Avani, no one can really tell you when you'll get your period because everyone's body reacts differently to the injections.
For me, as I've mentioned in the video, it took 3 months before they restarted.

@@avanipancholi20 You should ideally have a thorough blood test done to know what vitamins you do need, including calcium and a bone density scan (something I've mentioned in the video) - but remember to speak to your doctor and have these prescribed. Even on what else you should do, again, speak to your doctor, nutritionist and physiotherapist to make sure you are on the right diet and exercise plan.
