SOOO Glad you were not hurt, Courtney. Excavators can be fixed easily enough, a hurt Courtney would be a different order of magnitude entirely! As always, you two are utterly inspiring.
There is a product called Dexpan that can break up large rocks. (Dexpan is a cement with amazing 18,000 psi expansive strength when mixed with water. Poured into pre-drilled holes, Dexpan can break concrete and rocks safely and quietly, while providing silent cracking. It is safe, easy, and cost-effective.) One of your other neighboring channels has used it with great results. Good luck and God bless.
Don’t feel too bad about braking the window, I’ve built trails with an excavator in the woods for the past 10 years and dealing with brush is one of the most dangerous things you can do in my opinion. When possible we try to get excavators with out cabs just because we’ve broken so many cabs. If you guys are still wanting to get rid of that bolder on the corner you should be able to rent a jackhammer attachment for your excavator and it’ll blow through that rock pretty easily. Also another note that might help is if your trying to move around a big rock try driving backwards with the blade facing the rock and pull the rock towards you, I’ve moved rocks like this that I couldn’t even flip over with the machine. I would also be happy to help if you need any other excavator advice.
As my dad would say the only thing is you okay, equipment can be repaired or replaced, but people can't. So dry your eyes buck up and no that tomorrow is another day
Glad you wern't hurt. Leeson learned. Road looks way better. Dealing with rocks can be fun. Drill some holes in that puppy and get some demo mortar, that WILL break it up.
Just an idea…. When you get the glass replaced go get some clearer window tint plastic and rap the inside of the cab glass. The window glass on most of the dirt equipment is tempered and is designed to shatter into small pieces so as to not cut you to death. The plastic wrap will catch the pieces before they go all over you and the floor. Won’t stop a tree from going through the window
Courtney ask your Eye doctor to get the eye scratch dye for your rural first aid kit. It will show scratches. Tourniquets, gauze rolls triangle bandages, definitely gonna have to be the prepared one-Pneumatics pressure, I mentioned a CTIS ring that is what broke muther to get right hobbling regulated valves. Better to just order it.
You know what happens to earth moving equipment? It gets used. And when it gets used, things break. Yeah, the repair bill will sting, but you're okay and the major components of the excavator still function.
Rock breaking tip. Use a drill and "Feathers", you'll be amazed how much you can clear. or the expensive way, as someone pointed out, excavator attachment.
As long as things are higher than you, they can come down to you… My friends father stepped out of his excavator. He heard a bang behind him. He turned and watched the excavator got blown away by a 40 ton boulder… Scaery but building roadwork is serious stuff… You are doing great!!!
Need to have your dump truck driver come up the hill foward to compact the road then turn around and back in to dump works better when you don't have a roller to compact and the truck won't run the risk of breaking a rearend or driveshaft hope this helps
I have broke so many windows in my equipment that I just know it is coming at anytime. It is scary yes but that's what makes you an operator compared to a user. Welcome to operator status. You guys are great really love your channel.

Oh my! We are so relieved that you were not injured! Equipment can be repaired...not so easy for humans sometimes to get repaired. Look at it this way, you got an accident out of the way...smooth sailing from now on. Your progress is amazing and inspiring to so many! Teresa (and Mark) ps. Mark is very impressed with Riley's stone stacking skills!
Altering the course of a mountain road is an almost impossible undertaking, at the limits of human possibilities, even having all the experience and knowledge of a true professional. In spite of everything, you have not been discouraged and you are completing, with a thousand hazards and difficulties, a work that defining epic does not quite convey the idea. I am happy that Courtney came out unscathed from that accident and that all in all the risks you are running are limited to a minimum, thanks to the solidity of the means and equipment you are using and your ability to assess and adequately face any danger. You are a great team and I love you🤗💚💪✌️👍🍀
That's what I'm worried about. It's not just the making of this road. It's whether it will actually stay there due to weather, erosion, etc. Hopefully it works out. Good drainage will be key as well as low erosion above and below. Probably as many trees should be left as possible and some planting of something on the downside.
Things happened when you're working and they aren't necessarily mistakes, it's life. Hubby and I are glad you weren't hurt, the glass can be replaced, you can't. We really enjoy your channel!
We can see how hard you guys work even though y’all make it look easy! I often wondered if you ever get any sleep. You guys rock. 👏 Glad you you are safe Courtney.
Just watching this in August. FYI, with large boulders/rocks etc there is a product called DEXPAN. You drill holes in the rock & fill the holes with it & it splits the rock through expansion, might take a couple of days though, good luck
Hi guys, another major step done. The excavator is repairable and Courtney you were unhurt. The scary thought is if the window and frame wasn't there to stop the tree chunk. A blaster can pop that boulder out of there in an hour if you really want it gone. Just remember....if it was easy, every one would be doing it. Rock on! 😎
You can get a hydraulic breaker attachment for your excavator. Might look into renting one. Allows you to hold it stable and put the weight of the machine on it.
Thank God you broke that glass. I just ran one all weekend (rental). I put the window up to "protect" the glass. If you were as smart as me you would have been injured. That window took the blow for you. You also made us both better operaters. I am less smart and safer today, thank you. Nice road kids.

Making perfect big cut rocks to build retaining walls with to hold dirt back, or just rock walls, or build culvert head walls at the ends of the concrete water drain pipes, and use them to build buildings with, or use them for foundation walls, or use them as just individual pillars every so far apart to build buildings on, use them for steps, rock stairways, sidewalks, cellars and basements, chimneys and so on . Around where that I live there is lots of stuff made out of those cut rocks . 🤗👍💫
At this point there is not much else I could say to you guys that haven't been said already. The broken window is a minor accident in relation to everything that you two accomplish so far. Specially because it didn't physically hurt you. Again... amazing work!! That road will be one more awesome trophy to be proud of soon enough ( I would actually be already proud of it but you know =D). Keep safe and enjoying this adventure, I sure am. Cheers!
Say try to keep the spirits high. Everyone is ok ,no injuries. Been a heavy equipment mechanic for 35 years a seen many front glasses and cabs torn up. It hurts the pocket book for awhile but glass can be replaced. Body parts can’t.
Lesson learned… that is the easiest and most common excavator window to break… y’all might want to consider a forestry poly windshield and or a forestry cage since you will most likely still be doing this kind of work for a while yet. Most importantly y’all weren’t hurt… count your blessings. 😊❤️
Stuff like that is bound to happen. Even with mundane things like driving a car. It takes years to learn the strange ways things can go wrong and even then odd things will happen that even surprise a pro with years of experience . Important to reflect a bit on it and think what if? Logging machines have mesh cage in case timber comes in pointy end first. A cage might not be warranted in a small road building project, but mind that timber. Glad you are ok.
Yep, the polycarbonate windows and cages will protect you up to the point where the cab would be crushed, so try to avoid that Plus they work against bears and small groups of zombies
SOOOOO glad you weren't hurt Courtney 💜 The road is looking great. What a lot of HARD work, oh my. You guys are so smart to know when to call it a day! LOVED the cuddling with Boone 🐾🐾
@@AmbitionStrikes when you operate mashinery things always go wrong , when operating a cat or skidder trees can enter the cab , and very quickly. And can spear you . The list of things that can happen is endless . As long as you are not injured, the equipment can be repaired , or replaced . You only have one body 👍🇨🇦
Courtney: 2 things if I may. (1.) I spent my working life in mining, manly in maintenance. The stuff I have seen smashed & crushed far out weighs this. You walked away and as the saying goes "Shit happens", (2) You don't know my backstory, so let's just say I learned a long time ago, Yell,Scream,Hoot & Holler doesn't fix squat. Don't beat yourself up,that is the most counterproductive thing you or anybody can do, so DON'T DO IT ! Riley: The next time you use your jack hammer ,look at the rock for seam lines. You have to give the rock someplace to go meaning start at the bottom & make any shape opening then work around the opening in order to get everything to fall into this hole. Clear the cuttings away as you go . This is how you mine, everything folds into itself when the shots go off. Your explosives is the jackhammer tool bit. Take SMALL bites. You were too far up the rock.
Probably goes without saying but I’m going to anyway.. when you replace that glass weld up a frame with some of that heavy mesh to cover that window actually that’s fairly common for that window to get broke especially when working with trees that heavy mesh is also added protection for the operator it’s unfortunate that it broke but as you know it can be very dangerous I’m glad Courtney wasn’t hurt good luck with the road
1. They make a jackhammer attachment for an excavator. It's hydraulic. 2. Look up "feathers and wedges". You can use the method to split the rock off and get it broken up. A lot less work, and danger.
Glad your okay Courtney and it is scary to have something to blow out the glass right in front of you. I have 1,000 of hours in an excavator and have taken out a ew panes of glass. There is a reason loggers have full cages because $hit happens, all comes with the territory. Your not digging holes to plant trees for landscaping 😉
Someone had a Angel when that tree broke the windshield. Praise God. People would say you were lucky I would say you were fortunate. Cannot wait to see the next video you post
We’ve all smacked ourselves with a tree or gotten in some tippy situation, you guys are really getting good use out of that machine. Now you’ll have to wear your beekeeper hat in the cab though lol. The new road looks great.
Sweet girl, so glad the accident wasn't more serious. So, thankful YOU are safe. Dang, you two just don't do things halfway. What an accomplishment. The infrastructure of that road is going to last for years to come. Insurance people can be such meany heads!
The road project certainly escalated a bit after we got started. At first it was more of a "lipstick on a pig" plan, but ultimately we decided it would be better to just do the work now, while we had the equipment down there.

Your do a great job. Sorry you had that accident. What’s important is that you were not physically hurt. New glass can be ordered and it can be fixed. You are amazing.
Luckily a piece of window/glass can easily be replaced :) For the boulder you should have rented a hammer for the excavator instead. Then you easily could have attacked it from multiple angles and with a lot more force :)
Way to power through a very frustrating day, you two! Sucks for the broken panel, but most importantly, everyone is okay. Don't beat yourself so much, sh*t just happens sometimes. Btw - I'd look to rent an excavator-size hammer and break down that rock, even though you've expanded around it so it's not the highest priority for you now.
I am glad you did not get hurt Courtney. Chris on LETSDIG18 is an expert excavator operator and he put out his glass more than once. If you look at any logging equipment you will see guards in place at all the windows/doors. That`s because they know from experience trees are unpredictable at times. I suggested to Chris to put up removable guards, he did not want to have to look through the thick wire mesh all day. So he puts himself in danger to some degree every time he is logging with a machine designed to move dirt and rock. I suggested the same for Mike at DIRTPERFECT and he also does not want the hassle of taking on and off a guard system or looking through it. Their choice. I will now suggest the same to both of you to build your own removable/bolt-on guard system so you will not be put in full danger with only glass and one window divider to protect you. I told you from experience you should not use a chainsaw to cut anything that is above your waist, it is too dangerous to cut too high. Same thing with reaching for that tree that got you, sometimes it`s better to cut it off with a chain saw first then use the exc. Of course everything is 20/20 in hind sight. Construction is a dangerous industry and we always have to try to think ahead. My joking way of looking at that kind of stuff is I say, I have to be smarter than the tree! lol Or I have to be smarter than the rock, or tire, whatever I am working on. Even with guards on the machine, you will still need to be carefull. O.K. my dad type advice is done for now. Again, I am glad you were not hurt. Take care
Well what a smashing time you two navvies have had with your not so civil engineering project. Good to hear no humans were harmed in the making of this epic movie
wow! so glad your ok. Now youll be an even better operator than before. Not the best way to learn but definitly the most remembered youll probably wont repeat.
Courtney every operator has one of those moments. It is repairable and your pride will heal. We all have little oops moments and we all just hope they are ones that we live through and not hurt ourselves or anyone else. Guys explosives will do it but there is also other stuff, expanding foam or as the old timers did it they used feathers (metal wedges) to split the rocks. Get yourself an impact drill and drill bits of various lengths to get down into the rock for the feathers or foam to work.
New to the channel and loving everything I've watched. As a full time excavator operator, you can't really call yourself an true operator unless you've broken a window. LoL. Even more so as an Operator doing a lot of land clearing such as yourselves. Keep up the great work. Loved watching the progress in your skills.
Ahh don't cry Courtney ! This happens all the time with operators who have been doing it for years. You amaze me with your abilities. Now get back in there and keep going ! It won't be the last time something gets broken.
Hey Lady, I'm glad you are okay. Don't get discourage or what happened get you down. Glass can be replaced, doors repaired. Find the lesson in the incident, and keep going. Broken windows can be fixed .. Broken bones take longer to fix and are painful. I salute you two for this amazing undertaking that you are doing and you are doing a darn fine job.
Glad you didn’t get hurt - takes a lot of experience to keep trees off you when working equipment in the woods - we generally all learn by the accidents 🤪❤️‼️

Plus they work against bears and small groups of zombies
👍 to the cage idea
Oh bless your soul for playing that soft music instead of blasting my ears with the jackhammer! Lol
SOOOOO glad you weren't hurt Courtney 💜 The road is looking great. What a lot of HARD work, oh my. You guys are so smart to know when to call it a day! LOVED the cuddling with Boone 🐾🐾
Boone sure knows how to cheer us up. ❤️
Cortney as long as you are okay nothing really happened! Thanks God!
They make a jack hammer attachment for the excavator, rent one.
This is why I wear safety glasses whatever I am doing. Glad you guys are okay.
Things can brake and be fix. The most important that you are safe and ok.
Glad to hear you are fine. Material can be replaced, but not you. Please be safe out there!!!
Thanks Jacob!
Windshield and some parts for the excavator are probably not cheap foremost important thing nothing happened to !!!
The cab did its job! It kept you safe. As expensive as it is, it protects the priceless. Stay safe 😊
You need to remove all the trees that are hanging on the edge of the hill before the rain undermines the root system and they fall over anyway.
Yes!
U can always replace glass and dr long as ur ok thats all it matters
Sweet girl, so glad the accident wasn't more serious. So, thankful YOU are safe. Dang, you two just don't do things halfway. What an accomplishment. The infrastructure of that road is going to last for years to come. Insurance people can be such meany heads!
The road project certainly escalated a bit after we got started. At first it was more of a "lipstick on a pig" plan, but ultimately we decided it would be better to just do the work now, while we had the equipment down there.
Hello , my name is Jeffrey and I saw your name and I just had to smile with a little laugh . My ex-wife is named Theresa and my nickname is Dr Luv, and a couple of people refered to her as
Ms Luv . So I just had to make a comment .
🤗👍💖💫
@@jeffreykbevins7116 Thank you for sharing! My name, Luvs pims refers to the English cookie...I love them LOL.
Thanks Theresa, I live in Lawrence County, Kentucky, the hometown of " Country Music " singer Ricky Skaggs . And the new up and coming
" Country Music singer Noah Thompson " from Lawrence County, Kentucky . Where are you from ?
🤗👍💖💫
Your do a great job. Sorry you had that accident. What’s important is that you were not physically hurt. New glass can be ordered and it can be fixed. You are amazing.
I am so glad Courtney is not hurt.
Everything else can be repaired.
Glad to see your all right kiddo, you guys have done a damm good job.
Luckily a piece of window/glass can easily be replaced :)
For the boulder you should have rented a hammer for the excavator instead. Then you easily could have attacked it from multiple angles and with a lot more force :)
The most important thing is that you are OK, keep up the good work guys God bless you 🙏.
Keep up the good wrk both of u
Take care
Seriously don’t feel bad, I’m sorry this happened to you but I’m grateful you’re okay!
It is not that bad... bad is if you can NOT walk away.
Work (real work) is hard...
The secret to using a jackhammer is, don't push down on it. Just hold it up and let it do all the work. It works better and it is less tiring.
Well what a smashing time you two navvies have had with your not so civil engineering project. Good to hear no humans were harmed in the making of this epic movie
Bummer what happen but you walked away as it could have been way worse. Nothing better than a kid hug to make you feel better ! Stay safe guys !
Accidents happen and you're ok. You being ok is the main thing
wow! so glad your ok.
SO glad you're ok. Thanks for being real.
Hey Lady, I'm glad you are okay. Don't get discourage or what happened get you down. Glass can be replaced, doors repaired. Find the lesson in the incident, and keep going. Be careful, keep building, keep smiling, and keep posting the videos. This stuff is great. If all else fails, blame the husband, that seems to work for my lady.
Bummer (love that word), so sorry, glad you’re ok.
Sometimes little hiccups get in the way of what you are doing , just like that window mishap. Glad you are okay Courtney. Riley got right there to make sure you were okay. Broken windows can be fixed .. Broken bones take longer to fix and are painful. I salute you two for this amazing undertaking that you are doing and you are doing a darn fine job.
Courtney all the matters is you are ok. The machine kept you safe, scary for sure. You both are such hard workers. Keep smiling. I'm glad you are ok.
Remember both of u r the most amazing ppl i have seen in youtube...nothing is impossible for u all...things can be repaired so take a break n relax
I'm glad you weren't hurt, Courtney. Way to keep at it, no matter what.
Glad your OK, things can be fixed or repaired you can't, take care.
Glad you didn’t get hurt - takes a lot of experience to keep trees off you when working equipment in the woods - we generally all learn by the accidents 🤪❤️‼️
U guys should get a jack hammer attachment for your excavator
Oh my! Thank goodness you were not hurt. It's just glass. It can be replaced. You just can't run the heater for a while. Doing a great job on the road. Keep up the super work. You can do it!! Thanks for sharing
So glad you didn't get hurt. These things happen all the time in this kind of work. Don't give up the good work.
Glad you're okay, Vanwives did that too the other week so you're not alone.
i found you guys on youtube only yesterday but i wish i had found you sooner, the fact that you dare to show your emotions like so on camera gets you IMENSE respect from me. When it comes to renovating my house i try to do as much of the build myself, and those hard moment are so recognisable but you give yourself some space to say it and then continue again!! WOW you are such a strong person !! i hope to one day manage to get to the point in life where you guys are, but for now i enjoy the growth i make at my own pace step by step. Thank you for sharing
