There are over 100 types of HPV, and most of the time the body eliminates infections without symptoms- but some strains can pose serious health risks down the line. The last two pts I took care of with cervical cancer, while their cancers were treatable, they had pretty difficult courses. It was especially devastating when they told the 31-year old that she needed a hysterectomy and would not be able to have children. 😔

I can’t believe I got these vaccines 6 years ago (at age 13) and only now realizing how thankful I am for that. Thank lord my doctors advised my parents for me to get them. I hope all countries in the world provide vaccines for HPV for both genders.

@@omkarnath9765 I’m from Germany and here usually once you start puberty, doctors will sit down with you and explain all kinds of risks and STD’s you could get and how you can prevent them. Because this was very important to my parents I had to get these vaccines. So depending on where you are from I’d suggest you just go and talk to your doctor about the possibility of receiving the vaccine for HPV.

Ahh the HPV vaccine... I got 2 of them 3 years ago but at the time you needed 3 but I was too scared to get the last one...I thought it was too late but half a year ago I was told it wasn't so I took the last one. I really hope it worked. I'm so jealous of my younger sister though because she LIKES to take vaccines and she only had to take 2 :(

The cervical screening isn't as awful as it seems. The doctor who performed one on me used a generous amount of lube, and while it was awkward and felt like the speculum got caught at first, it wasn't painful, and neither was the brush stick, though I could feel it touching.

Know your HPV status and make your potential partner aware before having contact with them. Medicine should be testing for HPV so people can make informed decisions. One of medicine's basic creed is "do no harm" but they refuse to attack HPV in public health. Just let it spread! As a nurse I will fight for a push to change policy!

When Gardasil first came out, my mother did not let me get the vaccine because she was scared it would give me cervical cancer, a lot of mothers in my country had the same concern. As time has passed and people get more information about HPV the misconceptions about the vaccine decreased. Anyways, I got the shots this year.
