- STORY: Today, we, all Lao multi-ethnic people are together celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
Looking back 40 years to 2 December 1975 when we were most delightful and proud to witness that the Congress of elected representatives from across the country representing the strong will and aspiration of all Lao people, announced the proclamation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the absolute abolition of the feudal and colonialists regime that ruled our country for a long time. Since then, our country has gained full independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. The entire Lao multi-ethnic people have become the real masters of the country with freedom and opportunities or conditions conducive to comprehensive self-development in order to improve their livelihood both materially and spiritually, thereby contributing to the cause of safeguarding and developing the nation and the new regime toward achieving prosperity as many other nations already have realized.
In his key note address, General Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Lao PDR, Choummaly Sayasone stated that, the proclamation of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic is the result of the decades-long National Democratic Revolution under the wise leadership of our Party. It is a victory of the great solidarity of the entire Lao people and unity between our army and our people with enhanced sense of patriotism, devotion and bravery and the spirit of no surrender. It is also a victory of the brotherly solidarity between the Lao army and people and the armies and people of brotherly Vietnam and Cambodia. It is moreover a victory associated with the immense and sincere assistance extended by the Soviet Union, People’s Republic of China and other brotherly and friendly countries from near and far, as well as the broad support from revolutionary processes, peace-loving forces and progressive movements in the world extended to the just cause of the Lao people in the struggle for independence.
According to the President, 40 years of national safeguarding and development particularly since the initiation of the comprehensive and principled renovation policy by the Party, our country has undergone continuously rapid and stable economic growth that has significantly transformed our country. We have built and improved our national economy consisting of multiple economic sectors in line with the market-oriented economic mechanism under the State management. Goods production and village model to promote income generation for households through commercial production have been established and expanded to all localities across the country.
The most outstanding and unprecedented achievement made to date in our country’s history is that we successfully launched our first communication satellite into orbit on 21st November 2015, and the groundbreaking ceremony for the railway construction project that will meet the highest technical standards, linking People’s Republic of China to Vientiane Capital City and connecting to neighboring countries will be held today 2nd December.
It is said that, We are pleased to see that cooperation between the Lao PDR and other countries and international organization continues to expand. Our friends from near and far have extended their support and assistance to and engaged in multi-faceted cooperation with our country. Moreover, the Lao PDR has also appropriately contributed to the cause of the promotion of peace, stability friendship and development cooperation in the region and the world at large, thereby continuously raising the profile of the Lao PDR in the regional and international arena.
All in all, 40 years of national safeguarding and development of the new regime under the Party’s leader, our country has made firm steps towards the set destination and we are proud to say that: There has never been an era or period in the past when our beloved nation enjoyed the level of peace, development, prosperity, progress and enhanced role in the regional and international arena that it does today.
It is disclosed that, the past 40 years are the most gratifying period in the history of existence and growth of the Lao nation. Thus the entire Party, State, Armed Forces and people should continue to build upon the gained achievements by further carrying out who strategic tasks in line with the renovation policy; continue to build and improve people’s democratic regime, create primary factors towards socialist directive and moving towards the bright future of the nation.
Under the new opportunities favorable for the prosperity of the Nation, for the affluences of the Lao multi-ethnic people, for a harmonious, democratic, just and civilized society, the entire Lao multi-ethnic people shall be united in forging ahead together!
