Yes, they existed from Mexico all the way down as far as Bolivia, but it was Mexico and Peru, secondly that created the widest variety and developed them to a high point, they were later taken to Europe in the 1500's and now you can see them played as a folk and classical instrument there! I am curious if this is a jaguar... I thought a heart, at first. I'm interested in where the instrument survived from, more than "where it was created." Pretty sure it was everywhere and survived the great flood or similar. Maybe it's neither here nor there, I appreciated the video and a sort of indirect glance at that spirit there. And that's the place I will be when I make my own. Thank you 🙏

Sorry to get back to you so late...yesy they can up to 7 but the ancient Mexican/South American ones basically had 2 to 5 holes most had 4....adding more gives more notes that's all.
all the same in many ways without getting into too much detail....basically all though they occur in many parts of the world, the earliest ones are known to be from Mexico, in ancient times, Mexico and Peru had contact with each other....so it's most likely a yes answer...but like I said the idea was apparently created in different parts of the world, so basically there's NO historical document that says exactly where it from, only the earliest findings...but for me, when I say Mexican Ocarina, I mean "the one that comes from Mexico".....it's like talking about the violin, there are many versions of it in different countries
No ones knows, theres no "This is first one made" ocarina in any museum....gotta remember, it's "what they found"....but they existed there....they also had a cazry variety of clay instruments there and in Ecuador and Bolivia but haven't had much time to fully research it..
