The pov system has already changed so much since this video I need to do another but waiting for the system to kinda settle in to something they are going to keep. A new version came out today which changes and removes a lot of stuff again so I would just hold on and wait. I don't suggest using 10.8 on anything but 10.8 made tables.

My suggestion: strech the table. You don't need the DMD if you have 3 monitors, and if you get rid of the apron you'll see the round inserts becoming round again. On your table they're oval and the playfield is much shorter than on a real pinball table.
Hello. For those getting the red-lettered message in Window mode that reads... "You are in Window mode but you haven't defined your display physical size. This will break the overall scale as well as the stereo rendering." Would the physical display size be defined in screenres.txt of the Tables folder? I am able to make the POV adjustments and save them (which creates an .ini file), but I wasn't sure specifically how to remove this red message in Window mode. Thanks in advance...
Screenres.txt is for b2s server backglass and dmd placement has nothing to do with pov. I have a video showing how to set and remove the red writing. You can look at my videos. But it is not needed.
Interesting. I still haven't gotten into the 10.8 beta. I looked into pinball emulation for the first time about a month ago and installed VPX 10.7.2 - I haven't launched a single video game since, VP has taken their place. However, VP tables tend to drain ALL the time compared to their physical counterparts, so I'm not yet sure if I should invest in a VP cabinet or one of my favorites as an actual machine. Meanwhile I'm thinking of putting up some sort of setup with a vertically turned TV and an adjacent screen for back glasses.
Will changing these table sizings affect the physics and playability of the tables? Such as creating issues with balls getting stuck where they were not previously before resizing? Will pinball table authors need to re-release tables for the new 10.8 beta once it goes full release? I am just on the cusp of setting up a cab now and will be setting up vpx of course, Should I hold off on vpx for now until this settles down?
Follow my full guide. All new tables are being made in 10.8. JP is the only one redoing all his tables in 10.8. But 10.7 and 10.8 work perfectly fine together in the same setup. And no making camera adjustments in window mode does not affect physics.
@@rudysarcade yeah but if the table is coming up in the wrong orientation (based on the author's original design vs. the orientation in my cab) there is no way to change the orientation in the "Adjust camera" settings. I think you have to open the POV settings in the editor itself to change the rotation.
@strells nope you can put it in the editor and hit F6 to launch edit mode go over to window mode and press your plunger or enter to turn the table and reset it. That is in 10.8.. 10.7 you will need to edit it manually in the editor
I really appreciate you taking your time to show this, as this is something I am still battling with. I know I am stupid for not getting this, but could you perhaps explain a bit more detailed what exactly it is you are looking for with each thing you change? Like, what on the playfield are you looking at to see if what you are doing is right? Is it just a feeling, or is it more technical than that? For example, I have never dared changing the width. of the table, since I guess that would be like stretching the table (which I would not like to do), but in the end, you kind of makes it all even out. So if possible, a bit more detail to understand why you go with the values you are (and again, I am an idiot, so perhaps it's just me who don't get it, LOL)
If you watch and listen to the video I do tell its about what it looks like for you while looking at the image. It will be different for each person. Where I am over 6ft others might not be so tall so the view will be different. Also it's good to watch the circle light between the flippers and for the most part you want to try to keep it as close to a circle as possible. Hope that helps some.

The other thing is I did some googling and read in many places that it is advised against messing with a table's z scale. Adjustments to it will break physics and cause stuck and lost balls. I just mess with the new player Z instead to get the depth.
1st then you don't have the latest 10.8 2nd that was only in the old vpx The new version has window mode and all you are adjusting is the camera view at the table not really the table. It does not affect gameplay.

Thanks for posting this. I'm still trying to get a handle on what exactly is different about this new window mode. I'm very comfortable with what is now being called legacy mode, and my first reaction to this is that window mode is just giving different names to things like Inclination and Layback, and that you can now adjust Z without breaking the table (or is that a capability of 10.8 as a whole?). Is there more to it than just a different interface for doing the same thing?
Yes the new 10.8 is very different as you can adjust the back and front independently and you can adjust from your point of view like a camera. And also a big part of that is being able to adjust the depth. With Legacy you actually adjusted the table. With window you are only adjusting how the video image looks to you so no matter how messed up you make the image look it does not effect the gameplay. It's only an illusion of how you see it.
@@rudysarcade Thanks, that explanation was very helpful. But it raises an immediate question in my mind: Let’s say I d/l a table and the aspect ratio is all wrong on my cab, ie it’s too wide. I could either lower the Y scale in Legacy like I’ve always done, or lower the X in the window mode. I assume visually they’d look the same (please explain if not) but the big question is, would they play differently??

Only think I have on some tables is that the ball gets really big when it is in the lower part of the playfield.
So big that things seem off.

How were able to get your scoreboard positioned at top center like that. Mines positioned upper right but taking up some of the playfield
That is the built in one. If you have another one from external dmd you need to drag it to your dmd or backglass screen
what buttons do you use to go down to adjust the screen?

What VPX version did you load to get to the editor? I tried the GL version and no editor options appeared.

How do you adjust the orientation/rotation if necessary?
If you open it in window mode just press enter to reset it. But selecting cabinet or desktop if you wish to play in different ways.

10.8 normal version works the same but I suggest you try gl as it has better performance and smoother gameplay

Yes any table saved in old beta5 will be sideways when loaded in the new update.. Hit plunger and resize..
