the shorts in between seasons arent necessary but theyre really good and a couple do have some cool bits of lore or info here or there. overall not needed but definitely worth it

Bill cipher is an experience. He’s got so much charisma in his lines, but he’s an agent of chaos in everything he does. You just don’t know what he’s going to do next.
Calling him a “Dorito” is too lenient. He’s more like those ghost pepper chips, but by ingesting it he hurts you and everyone you’ve ever loved.

Fun fact: The sunset on Mabel's shirt symbolizes a transition from a lighter story to a darker story.
OK, Imagine this.
A sequel series that starts off with a relatively light story with a bit of darkness, like season 2.
At the end of the sequel series' first season, or perhaps at a mid season, you can have Mabel wear a sweater with a sunset on it again and go super dark for the fans that grew up with the show.
You can even go the route of having it be episode by episode getting darker.
Have something off in the first episode that keeps getting more obvious and bleak only for it to rear its ugly head and changes the flow of the show.

The Gravity Falls shorts are really funny and you should absolutely watch them! Two or three of them are referenced in Season 2, though they aren't necessary to understand the plot.

Also, pretty much from this point on, everything is important! The background clues start in Season 2 (you can’t miss the keys, there’s literally keys by them) so look out for them!
I would also recommend checking out the Gravity Falls shorts in between seasons. Dipper’s Guide to the Unexplained and Mabel’s Guide to Life are very important, but there are others as well.
