Sorry, but i think the luck here was much higher than the skill. Don't unterstand me wrong, Boris belongs surely to the Top 1% Pilots of the world. But in this moment the luck was, that the Dustdevil put him "high enough" to recover and "released" the wing in a flyable position.
I must admit, I held my breath when you were snatched off launch. It looked like you were buggered for a second there. Looks like you kept a cool head and managed a difficult experience. Lucky the glider was so solid, so quickly and so close to the ground. I hope you have lots more great launches, flights and landings without the sudden starts. Cheers
So glad you were safe. That was one of the scariest things I've ever seen. I'm glad you commented about ground handling being so important. We can never forget that. Thank you.
Great video, it s a super good reminder to be always alert on what you are donig. It happened to me a lighter version in Iquique, with no consequences at all. Just an unwanted lauch!!! Buenos vientos!!!
Thank you for sharing another great video for us to learn from 👍🏻 Very unfortunate situation to have found yourself in but great recovery by the pilot 👌
That was terrifying to watch. When you got flung into the air, I thought I was about to watch you fall back down and break half the bones in your body...
Glad he's ok. That seems like a lot of stress on the glider, maybe not. Anyone know, was the glider checked out after the flight and how would it's flight characteristics have changed?
I just bought a epsilon 9 and all the lessons for $5,400. I'm not sure where I live it's my hills and ridges will even support flight because mathematically it's a complex as a devil's bowels around there. But I know one thing we got the dust devils. I saw Greg hammerton walking around in a very low wind using his wing like an antenna sniffing for an updraft. Thanks for posting this I'm doing as many hours of online video research of dust devil watches to figure out how to make it work for me.
Dust Devils are very strong thermals... Keep some distance from even small peaks and ridges... These are triggers... The unlucky(and also lucky) pilot is the closest to the ridge... Safe flights for all...
Christoph Stich, frankly, with regard to the violence and strength of that sudden gust, it doesn't look at all like firmly holding the brakes or even stepping on them would have been enough.
Cold air and warm air mixing exactly as the Flybubble explanation . In the case of the Chabre these dust devils are more common when a northerly airflow is mixing with thermic south face updrafts
I wouldn’t be brave enough to tie myself to a tornado hook next to that spineback. Looks like a strong argument not to hang around on launch with your wing out.
the idea of reaching up above a twist or two to steer is fraught and must be the exception rather than the rule... for a start it is hard to know many things and get the right controls and apply in a judicial manner but more importantly is it is done with one hand and requires rolling in the harness and commonly catches your hand and glove so you now got one hand and are weightshifted toward spiral... ... better to relegate this idea to extreme ideas that can make it more likely you weight shift into a spiral and deal with that energy ... basically bad advise to try to reach above... ineffective and firstly more dangerous than not reaching (weightshifting).... if your twisted centre your weight and backfly if you can or just kick it out
That was one HELL of a recovery!! Just amazing!

Wow, that was scary to watch!
"Untwist as you have learnt", that is something I want to see a Flybubble episode about. An instruction in this.
So glad you were safe. That was one of the scariest things I've ever seen. I'm glad you commented about ground handling being so important. We can never forget that. Thank you.
I'm glad you can still share your story with us! :)
Thanks and good luck for all further launches and flights, to you and all the other pilots here!
That was eye opening! Thanks for sharing.
Holy Hell that looked scary
Damn... Liked the reaction of the nearby guy, who jumped on his wing. And the medic of course
Most spectacular launch of all time!
Daaaang! I'm glad the dust devil let you go, and the wing did what it was supposed to!

You should be getting "Cold blooded man of the century" award....
I've seen this clip loads of times.. but this clip had you actually talking on it.. I guess the big man was looking down on you lol. Happy flying dude
Thank you for sharing another great video for us to learn from 👍🏻
Very unfortunate situation to have found yourself in but great recovery by the pilot 👌
yeah that was insane, wasn't it? Boris has a guardian angel.
Y'all talking like this was an accident, he said at the start he couldn't take off cuz of the people infront of him, definetly on purpose
Wow, you’re great pilot!
Thank you for sharing!
good video for pilots to be aware and study !
FINALY NEW VIDEO!!!!!
A proper looping launch should feature a complete turn-over. I suppose the pilot was still a beginner. Keep practicing, mate!
Yeah keep practicing you'll get it eventually
Lol
That was terrifying to watch. When you got flung into the air, I thought I was about to watch you fall back down and break half the bones in your body...
Would keeping the glider bundled in hand until space further away from the crest of the hill becomes clear keep things safer?
Wow! Nice recovery.
Congratulations for your safe
Glad he's ok. That seems like a lot of stress on the glider, maybe not. Anyone know, was the glider checked out after the flight and how would it's flight characteristics have changed?
Ahh no, a year ago I bought an octave mandolin (which I love) instead of a paraglider, now I’m thinking of the fun of flying again.
Thanks! :)
:) Excellent story. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing glad it turned out well :-)
real big luck !!! If ya watch the win spion at the left up Corner, you see, the wnd changes within a second complete to the opposite direction.
Wtf that was the most amazing shitty launch I've ever seen. Incredible recovery.
lol, he wasn't trying to launch, he was picked up by a dust devil.

I would have died. Holy hell you must have the reflexes of a cat and/or you are incredibly lucky.
probably just lots of practice kiting
what is the beeping while you fly?
That was a close one!
guess you won't be finishing those peanut M&Ms will ya Boris?
One very luck man just watching this made me feel sick well done for getting it together. This video will get some hits.
Are you back?!

To the experienced ones, please answer:
HowCanYouCounterThat.
David Derrida Read the post over at flybubble but basically keep the wing on the ground with either your C lines or by stepping on it
Christoph Stich, frankly, with regard to the violence and strength of that sudden gust, it doesn't look at all like firmly holding the brakes or even stepping on them would have been enough.
David Derrida that's what the flybubble guys posted in their blogpost, but I would guess that stepping on the wing would kill it, no?
Thats one way to launch at a busy site.
Right now I wouldn't mind getting lifted out of my garden by a dustdevil ... lockdown is boring AF
Greg Hamerton lmao I can relate. Theres still 3 feet of snow here so paragliding is pretty quiet. Some powered flying though
Land and hug the wing that saves you from terrible death horror fears.
Hi I am from Germany, can anyone explain what a dust devil means or what it is? :)
Cold air and warm air mixing exactly as the Flybubble explanation . In the case of the Chabre these dust devils are more common when a northerly airflow is mixing with thermic south face updrafts
I wouldn’t be brave enough to tie myself to a tornado hook next to that spineback. Looks like a strong argument not to hang around on launch with your wing out.
why´s that guy in the front wearing an oxygen mask?
Omg this is crazy
Amazing. Well done. You won the psycho Game,
Close call, lucky strike, expertise, and a change of underwear. kuddos
Wow! But next time please wait your turn. 😇
Welcome to the Chabre :)
You didn't get to rotor behind the hill? Like this video th-cam.com/video/cdFqaFAfbpw/w-d-xo.html shows?
First filmed paraglider backflip rocket launch... Space x go home..
😬
Thers no tornadi
Another reason why i'll never try this haha
The wing did all the work.
Had a fun one in Algo last year. Glad you made a good recovery. th-cam.com/video/FUtpmgEr2mo/w-d-xo.html
JUST GUSTS OF WIND FOLKS
