How to Replace Instrument Cluster Light Bulbs in 2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma

  • UPDATE: I've made a follow up video to this one, addressing the question of what type of light bulbs these are in the cluster. Follow this link to learn more!
    • Follow Up to Tacoma In...
In this video I go through the steps of replacing burned out instrument cluster and climate control panel illumination light bulbs for a 2001 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma. This truck I'm demonstrating on is a 2003 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 2WD with a 3.4 liter V6. The basic steps will also apply to most makes and models. There's a lot of dash trip parts that has to be removed to access the instrument panel, but the steps are basic and you can save a lot of money doing it yourself instead of paying high labor costs at the shop. Note: Always disconnect the battery before removing electrical connections to prevent any damage due to electrical shorts.

Great Video Mike!!! It is a shame that Toyota has to make something that should be so simple so complicated... You are a man of skill and patience. Anyone who owns a Toyota Tacoma can really appreciate this video. Thanks again. Kurt Estilow

The 194 bulb is not for this. On the 2002 Tacoma the center cluster HVAC bulbs are Toyota part number 90010-05120, a smaller bulb. So far only the Toyo dealer sells them.

I just got a 2004 Tacoma and I am doing about 20 different things it needs. But it is a solid truck so all will be good.

I was about to start taking it off, but then found your video.
I just need to replace a couple of those tiny bulbs there. Taking the steering wheel is a pain... Plus, comes with a bit of a risk of getting hit in the face with that airbag, lol!

A word to the wise. Out of the three HVAC controls on my 2004 Tacoma, 2 of them stopped lighting up all of a sudden. Watched this video ...went all over creation trying to locate the bulbs. Purchased them ...installed them AND......nothing. Well...all that work for nothing. Spoke with the Toyota dealer. Bringing it in later this week. Probably the whole module has an issue. $200+ to replace...just for the part. At this point I am letting them install the darn thing as well. I have had it.

Good clear tutorial. I will be referencing this video to replace some main gauge lights in my wifes Tacoma. Thanks much. Stay safe during this pandemic.
