Everything I have says the R-87 was made in 83 and checking on the net I see hundreds of people claiming the same thing about theirs so I've never heard of it being made in 82. The Manual says 83, for instance... r86 was made in 82, r85 was made in 81, etc.

ROWE / AMI model numbers were always associated with 5 year warranty. So an R-87 is from 1982. 87 is the year the warranty runs out...
