Can water hyacinth save a lake?

  • Tushar Chandra is raising funds to create a water hyacinth harvesting system at Hennagara Lake. This plant, known as the "terror of Bengal", is an invasive species that is typically very difficult to deal with. At the same time however the plant also absorbs heavy metals, pollutants and excess nutrients from water, effectively cleaning the lake it infests. If it is harvested properly Tushar says it can create many useful products while also improving the water quality in the lake.
You can reach out to Tushar at contact@vrikshamitra.org or 8174978368 / 9663161459 and discuss how you'd like to be involved. Or you can go visit the lake yourself.
There's many other issues at the Hennagara Lake and it seems like they can use all the help available.

water hyacinth is bad for the lake, it deprives the lake of oxygen and nitrogen, bad for the aquatic life. instead of harvesting it again and again, better try to😊 eradicate it and use alternative cleaning techniques for the water quality, specially stuff like preventing the water from getting more pollutants in it, better regulation of waste dumping etc

This plant is not one that can be eradicated. As it is harvested, the concentration of nutrients will drop and that will reduce the area covered by water hyacinth. In a year or so, it will be restricted to a few acres at the inlet. If you've seen the water flowing into the lake, it is virtually impossible to identify who is dumping what. And dozens of serious court orders later, there is zero action against the polluters. Your suggestion is good but it's a dream with no chance of coming true.

Water hyacinth can be bad for the lake, but the amount of effort that would go into eradicating it is astronomic, and negative environmental impacts can be mitigated when harvested regularly. You see this in the plants home ranges, many many fish and animals eat the plant, and it helps open the surface waters and prevent oxygen from being sucked away. Too much nitrogen is also bad for lakes, and is added in huge amounts by sewage and fertilizer runoff- the lake does not need more nitrogen, it will drive oxygen down.

I've been watching few videos from Bengwalk for the last few days. I have to say the quality is great. It feels like a Vox/Johnny Harris video. All the best to you.

Bro make a video on the KR Puram bridge. it is such an inefficient bridge that creates more problems than it solves.
I travel on that route everyday and here are my observations
    1. You can't take a left turn to ORR while coming from hoskote, there's a small under pass which is choked all the time. direct fly over connecting to ORR would have been great.
    2. You can't take a right turn from ORR to the hoskote side. same reason as above. now you have to go all the way till tin factory to take a simple U turn.
    3. The fly over ends just before the ring road, creating a huge choking point. it could have continued a little longer
    4. the under bridge gap (below brige) is so small, they could have extended it for another 100 meter or so, it would have solved major choking for people coming from orr.
that big bridge was even unnecessary. a simple clover leaf model would have solved the issue

Citizens Negligence is the main cause of all problem in our country nd city also. People are busy behind money, status, jealousy leg pulling and what not. Instead of Conserving ecology, uplifting the society people are busy in Some shitty things. Everyone comes to Bengaluru makes money, pollutes lake send money to their villages and leave the city sadly that's the real trend nowadays. God bless my city from these 'People Vultures'. 😢🙂

Stop blaming the common people for everything! If everything is blamed on people then what does the government do? The government is just so busy selling the public assets to the private companies and taking hefty kickbacks. Accept the inefficiency in the governance. The political parties are spineless to take any actions fearing loss of votes.
Even after paying a huge amount of taxes the public doesn't even get anything in return for their long term good. Real estate prices, Education and healthcare expenses are skyrocketing. Yet whoever forms the government will try to project India is growing or the respective State is growing. Nope! Only the rich are growing as ultra riches! And the fact is even for those rich people our country is unfit to live considering their wealth and taxes paid.
