I totally agree with it is "difficult to reach" not well connected, twice I was struggling getting to this station.

As a urban planner I really think, except for the staircase part, all the points were valid , I think they wanted to give decent amount of stairs because there is huge amount of traffic which is expected on the first floor , I'm only assuming this, as you had said, the food court was on first floor.
