- Mat has been testing the latest Razer Blade 16 Laptop for the last couple of weeks and his findings have certainly been interesting. At £3,600 this laptop packs quite a punch - with an Nvidia RTX 4080, Intel Core i9 13950HX, with a 240Hz screen, 1TB SSD and 32GB of DDR5 memory. Sadly, it isn't quite as simple as that, as we explain. Read more here: bit.ly/3PiMXbL

#razer #blade #blade16 - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
This is a good indication Razer are just putting the best and most expensive components into a chassis without even testing if cooling will work properly.
That is an indication that other reviewers are lying, and should be reported to YT. Or this one has thermal issues with its vapor chamber. I do not see other option.
what an absolute disaster - just shows you - cramming the best hardware into a thin laptop case just doesnt work. my old razer laptop was a mess too - loved the looks of it, but its just didnt work well and basically boiled itself to death
Just use liquid metal on the CPU and this machine is a beast. 30K+ Score in Cinebench R23 and temps under realistic gaming scenarios drop from 100°C to 80-85°C. Could never been happier with this laptop (owning the RTX 4090 model with MiniLED)
Hely bro, can you tell me what your time spy score, after re-pasting with LM? Notebookchecks are 18599 points. Thanks!
@@oliverpinko928 21500 Points. GPU 22000 and CPU 18600
@@pitha-gn9zr thank you
@@oliverpinko928 just re-tested and got 34000 points in CB23 with 125mV undervolt
I've got one in the mail. Did you use any for the Vram?
nice honest review mat - great looking laptop. but I would imagine the advise is to spec the laptop with a lower powered CPU and perhaps a 4070 - the thermal constraints of the platform might work with those. The prices however, are well in excess of a grand more than 'competitors' like lenovo.
Thanks mate. It would be interesting to compare how a lower spec version of this laptop performs when compared against this one to be honest.
I have the 4070 config with the MiniLED Screen and thermals are definitely under control with my unit. The 4070 even when heavily overclocked rarely pulls more than 100W of power and the Blade 16 is easily able to dissipate that.
RTX 4080 plus a core i9. How does it not just catch on fire the instant you turn it on.
I'd be curious to know what date you tested the thermals. I'm in support hell with Razer atm regarding my blade 18, after a Synapse/BIOS update 5-6 days ago the thermal throttling is insanely poor. I went from getting 50 smooth FPS in Starfield to 12-15 FPS due to some incredibly strange behaviour. I wonder if your testing took place after applying to 2.04 BIOS update and Synapse update in which case they are potentially similarly affected.
I originally tested before the update you mentioned. Then updated and ran through a few benchmarks and the issue was still present.
did u get sorted ??
This is so weird I used to see this with Surface Pros where they would throttle to 800Mhz and get stuck at 800Mhz. Letting them cool, reinstall, updated firmware did nothing. We would run them flat then shelve them for a month and afterwards they would reset back to their base clock.
Great review 👍
Thanks
Love the configurable spec of this its like a wish list of all the best things.
My 4080 Blade 16 does the same things you're saying in Cyberpunk. I've had it for 10 days now. The bloody thing can run it at almost 60 at everything 4k high with DLSS, but it throttles so hard and the screen tearing gets bad,. I don't know where to go at this point as I love the 4k screen. I's just brilliant for 4k gaming. I could opt for the 4090 but it doesn't even run Cyberpunk at 80 ultra/high.
the laptop is thermal limited.. putting in a 4090 wont gain you much
is it woth the money ? And it gets really loud when gaming right?
The thermal assembly needs to be modded to sustain high performance.
I used PTM 7950 on the CPU & GPU which dropped my 100dC Peak Pcore temp to arnd 90dC. Undervolting the CPU helps to further drop temps to 88dC
Cinebench r23 multi core: 31500
Cinebench r20 multi core: 11800
Timespy: 19800
Timespy GPU: 20000
CPU Undervolted and GPU Overclocked. Pretty decent scores for a blade but Ofc real world perf prob worse than synthetic ones
How do you do all this?
Excellent explanation ❤❤❤
This chassis is best suited to a core i5 and a 4060. Lesson learned the hard way. Guess a lot of people buying this won’t even understand that and will be happy enough with the general use performance.
AMD CPU’s run cooler. It needs amd.
Non removable battery? Can it be replaced when it wears out?
It can be replaced. I’ve replaced my Razer Blade 15 battery once. It’s tough to get Razer to ship you out a replacement but EBay’s there.
Have exactly this laptop. Mine doesnt do that or itd have gone straight back. Performs about the same as my nuc 11 extreme desktop with 3080 in balanced mode (not loud). Nuts for a laptop
presume u are happy with it ??
I was browsing the net for 18" laptop, for long, long time and watched razer 18" reviews. YT kept me 'away' from your review through good 4 weeks - this is ins4n3!
You should do that again but put the fans up to the max speed
its very pretty, always loved the looks of Razer laptops. I know you can't ask them for a follow up. but id love to know what the temps and throttling would be like with a 4070 and a CPU a few levels down from the one you got. Likely performs BETTER than this one overall.
I have the 4080 version and this is what I did
Undervolt on CPU, limited CPU on E cores to 2000 mhz, limited CPU on P cores to 3000 mhz, made undervolt rtx 4080, limited it to 2000 mhz at 750 millivolts voltage (Performance loss was about 5-10%)
As a result I got in games on the processor not higher than 75 degrees and on the GPU not higher than 70 degrees (In games I put MAX FUN).
You can let the processor run at higher frequencies, but it makes no sense, in all games that I played the video card was loaded at 99%
I also lift the laptop so that more air can get under the lid.
@@ballokk I have the same laptop with a 4070 video card
Can you describe more details on how to reduce the processor hertz frequency?
Extra m.2 port is such a good feature.
cyberpunk is not all core workload and should not be used for monitoring thermal throttling and core frequency
It's a good test of cpu and gpu performance when gaming, hence why we use it in combination with Cinebench, PC Mark, Blender etc. It gives a good picture of the overall performance of a system in a few differing but likely scenarios.
@@matmynett7220 the 798mhz in video title is from some parked CPU cores not doing anything while running cyberpunk. and didn't mention anything about GPU thermal/power throttling in gaming benchmark. usually it's more severe than CPU throttling in thin laptops.
Whats the big deal with the CPU anyway - its a gaming laptop,. 800mhz on a few cores will be fine. seems very unfair to slag razer cause its got such powerful lovely hardware in it to make the experience better for everyone. Price is good too, id pay 5000 for this spec.
Sarcasm is alive and well. 😂
That screen is so sharp!
any razer products are DOA all because of their bloatware software, Razer Synapse is complete crap however Razer is a very high premium product, they just need to rebuild their software control from the ground up, i could never get their headphones to work properly, even following many fix it videos all over youtube
Synapse goes from hit and miss build to build - best not updating it once you get it working I found in the past.
Sounds great !
The trackpad not being uniformly clickable is a bit annoying.
That razer logo on the lid is nice.
the result indicate this for sure a leaky slicon bareliy make the spec. looks like razopr gona need do more qc in the slicon for this laptop.
Surely it’s just cause they crammed such high level hardware into such a small apple mac style case
@@iamahappybunny7640 this where watch more review on same product would be worth it. like gsmoslip tech also review this laptop, he found same very hot laptop but didnt metion the same themo torrle this hard.
That is such a premium laptop love how its all metal.
I'd almost think it waz a faulty sample. But then I remember Alienware pump out stuff with appalling thermals too.
Aluminium unibodies, typical pros and cons. You always give up something in return for that, in this case it’s the heat build up and the costs. Most other manufacturers aren’t doing unibodies but slapping aluminium panels together which although cheaper never feels as solid. If build quality isn’t as important and you don’t mind a laptop with a bigger footprint, you go for an Asus SCAR or Lenovo Legion 7 for max performance per dollar. It’s good to have choices in the market favouring different demographics.
Sort of like having a Nissan GTR and an Aston Martin, even if the GTR is probably faster for a cheaper price. I don’t think Razer is trying to go for the gamer who’s extremely price-conscious, clearly trying to be a high-end premium lifestyle brand like Apple.
Also pick yours up for cheaper through the Amazon returns/deals in a local electronics shop/picking up last year’s model in case there’s a CPU change but no GPU change. I bought mine (8750H/2070MQ) for $700 less than the new one at the time (9750H/2070MQ) since the new processor hardly improved performance. Still running well after ~5 years, can play Alan Wake II on it.
Who makes this for Razer?
Triple A+ review of a C- product. Job jobbed! 👍👍👍
Cheers Steve
Back to you Steve... 😅
@@fracturedlife1393 Gosh, tah! Have an Internetz: believe it or not, you are the first to include me in that meme. I'm honoured.🥳🥳🥳
For these smaller chassis AMD cpu are the best way to go..
I wish i have a gaming laptop before i grow up
This laptop is way faster than most desktops currently in use.
on looks alone its a winner. after watching the video. thats about all thats going for it. what a waste of money that is. You would think they would run internal tests on configurations then make a company decision to limit the hardware inside to specific TDP so the cooling can cope. That seems like such a massive oversight by Razer. Their CEO is always on social media and he seems like a huge fan of luxury goods - panerai watches, apple high end components. Maybe they need to get back to basics.
this is a problem when you cram in very high end components into a smallish chassis. I cant believe they offer this with a 4090 as well. that just would not work at all.....
It’s going for form over function. I hate that.
My 16inch Legion 7i is 16 inch and never peaks above 88 degrees on the cpu and 75 on the gpu, 13900HX and 4090... Lenovo just does it better with cooling 😎
good review
Thank you
Try putting the notebook on a stand so that it can better take in air currents, this is very important
What happens if you want to use it on your lap. Like a ‘lap’ top ? Also the vents were not blocked during testing.
16 inch seems to be the best size laptop screen ever.
THX logo looks really cool for us 90s people.
Why leave it at around three and a half thousand pounds? Why not round it up to an even four thousand?
Yes its a lot of money but that spec you are getting is pretty much the best you can get in the intel world.
You just know that all variations of this laptop are going to be really expensive.
could double up for making bacon and eggs at the weekend. cost effective.
I would feel really scared taking this around with me as its so desirable someone is going to want to take it off you by force.
People love specs. They see 4080 or 4090 and core i9 and wet themselves. They fail to look at the black MacBook chassis and think. ‘Hey wait up. This might not be able to cool all that hardware. ‘. 😂
Has to be suited more for a 4060 and much lower end cpu.
This reminds me of my Predator Helios gaming Laptop, which is all good but I can't run a game on it as it gets too hot and shuts down!!! 😢
What a disappointing experience really!!!
What’s in that laptop ?
It's insane putting that much heat in a laptop.. intel cpu's have become a bit of a running joke, AMD are only a fraction better. I think both well behind ARM.
@@GeordiLaForgery yeah its a good point - the high end intel and AMD processors are really just suited to desktop cooling or a massive deep chassis. these razer laptops look great, and are very stylish, but they need to limit them to much lower end hardware - I guess they want to be able to see big figures on CPU and GPU and charge fortunes.
@@lucifersheadscarf6988 yeah I think they're just sticking to their old habits plus intel probably giving this cpu to them for close to nothing. In 2023 it looks like a dinosaur to me.
3600 quid. Yeah thats quite expensive.
So you know when its not a name brand SSD its going to be someone you have never heard of before like in this case.
Toshiba became Kioxia and LiteOn are pretty well known doing OEM stuff.
Otherwise wholeheartedly agree. Only ever tried one cheapo SSD that wasn't a lie (kingdian Chinese brand, probably one of the better SSDs I've had the misfortune of testing).
Get the 18" if you wanna get this laptop much better
That's some pretty major throttling. On the avoid list.
Mat needs to say Rayzor a lot more with that accent.
I'll start a Cameo and charge for yam yam accented tech greetings 😂
Yours is out of wack.. I've setup 4 Blade 16's for my engineers and all of them performed well.. Yours clearly needs an RMA or at the least a repaste.
This is what I'm thinking. Sure other reviewers are going to sell the product, almost all of them do that but if this was common the word would get out and places like reddit would go crazy. Let's see if I can fight the urge to upgrade my Blade 14 RTX 3070 to this beast 🤑🤑
The laptops would look so much better if it didn't have an ugly green snake on the lid that would be embarrassing to use
We don't care about all of these charts and borring data anybody could find out on the net, just play games dude, and show us the result. Thanks.
For that price you could get a way better desktop.
Yeah you definitely could and that's usually the case in the laptop vs desktop argument, but some people require or prefer a laptop. That doesn't take away from the fact that the thermal throttling on this laptop is not acceptable, at any price, let alone £3600.
I think my phone might hold its clocks better under load !
Dude for that price you could get a way better laptop and desktop both
very overpriced laptop for what you get. id rather get a lenovo with a 4070 and a core i7 for 1500 less. would run a lot cooler too and have a better keyboard.
oh dear, well thats not very good then
Wawww
Typical intel 😮
Don't buy Razer. The end. Terrible products with good marketing.
Would love to see this up against the top of the line macbook.
Laptop OEM: uses stupid 100W processor instead of a 40W AMD-HS processor or 65W AMD-HX processor.
Laptop OEM: doesn't want a giant brick of a laptop with 5 fans and that weighs 5kg.
Laptop: Thermally throttles
Laptop OEM: surprised pikachu face.
Lenovo legion 9i isnt as pretty but in laptop performance and heat control it beats the hell out of Razer 🫣
