Catherine and David have phenomenal chemistry in this! They also were the leads in a rendition of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and they were great in that too
the scariest thing about the doctor is how easy it is to forget he isn't human. he doesn't think like us, feel like us or express himself like we do. he has two hearts but will always need a third, human heart, to keep him in check.
"Im not im not im not from Mars" "POCKETS!" "SANTA'S A RO BOT!" "STOP BLEEPING ME! "YOU HAD RECEPTION WITHOUT ME!" this Christmas special is such a fun ride after such an emotional goodbye

I have one framed! my uncle was a PC doing security on set and got on for me when I was little! it's the coolest thing it has like little details on it like the satsuma joke from the first Xmas special!!
During the reception when you were surprised that the family wasn’t worried for her- remember she did have that brief phone call where she told them she was okay.
I always get a slight chill when donna asks ''did she trust you'' cause that slight change in music with a little bit of rose's theme or the cyberman theme
I can’t see this episode the same way I used to anymore, cause I’ve been rewatching the show with my brother and introducing it to my mum, and when Donna exclaimed that she didn’t have pockets my mum said gleefully “Mine did!😁”
Donna is very good at being the Doctor's 'Heart' bringing him back from his own personal darkness. Pro Tip: you have to watch the Torchwood S1 finale directly after the Doctor Who S3 episode "Blink" as it takes place directly before the next episode "Utopia". Great work as always Emme. 👏
Fun fact, the actress Sarah Parish who played Empress of the Racnoss in this episode has starred with David Tennant in a number of shows together. She even joked that they'll be playing an elderly couple in the far future one day because of that! Probably the most prominent thing they've done together is the TV film "Recovery" which aired only two months after this episode, where they played the husband and wife couple and Parish's character is trying to help Tennant's character through recovery and bring his old self back from a life changing injury Tennant's character suffered.
I remember them both (along with another Tennant Xmas Special Guest Star) being in 'Blackpool'. Now I think about it, I think that was the first thing I remember seeing David Tennant in, and then he was cast as The Doctor soon afterwards.
A lot of people find Donna a bit intense in this episode even though her reactions are, really, valid. Glad to see that you liked her. This series and the next are some of the consistently best of DW.
@@jeanine6328 Exactly. The rest of the companions has their moments when they question the doctor and his actions (like when rose stopped the ninth doctor from killing the "last" dalek), but mostly they are just yes-men to the doctor. But Donna (even if she's only in this Christmas special and not really a companion) just questions everything and is a very strong presence challenging most of the doctor's actions which makes her the best.
The best companion. Seriously I love Donna as a character. She's everything you want in a companion. Where some of them have felt like they were just kind of following him around with their jaws on the floor, Donna was always right there next to him like, "Explain to me exactly what's happening in terms I can understand," and as soon as she was caught up she started making moves. She's also one of the funniest and most daring people he's ever had along. Donna freaking rules. It's always the ones you don't expect much out of that come in clutch when it really counts. She's like the Larry Bird of Doctor Who companions lol.
Been watching your reactions (especially DW) for a while now, but the way you were so extra sassy this time around, especially towards Lance (honestly, screw that guy lmao), made me finally subscribe! Good stuff! 😂
7:57 When I was a kid, sometime in the 2010s I think, we actually had a car for a little while that had trunk seats like that. They're definitely rare, and I think they're a lot less common than they used to be. In our case, it was a Volvo, and kind of a junker car that we bought for cheap when our van got totaled. This is in the US btw.
This was such a refreshing reaction to this episode and to Donna. I loved how you look at it from her side instead of just as an inconvenience to the Doctor.
at 7:55 that car with the seats facing each other it a old land rover discovery they had seats in the back my grandad had one i use to love sitting in them as a kid
The Extrapolator that the doctor pulls out is the same one that Blon the Slitheen from Boom Town (S1 Episode 11), is trying to use to surf away from the nuclear explosion. It has slowly become one with the Tardis. Hence the coral and wires coming out of it.
25:47 lol your quick turn from excitement to disappointment was very consistent with the episode Enjoyed your reaction as usual. Looking forward to the next one.
I like how the episode we meet Donna is the episode you acknowledge that David Tennants Doctor needs to stop suppressing his pain and grief. It's neat in a way
Donna was great in this. She scared me a bit because I thought they were gonna make Tate do her Lauren Cooper impression in this but no they didn’t. She became love by a lot of Doctor Who fans and me to.
Now you’re on series 3 remember to watch the British version of the finale episode. Episode 13. Any non British version cuts out at least 10 very important minutes. Just don’t do any investigating or googling until you’ve reached episode 12 Just get to episode 12. Then find the British version of episode 13
In Germany, after the cut version of the episode was dubbed and broadcast, the DVD publisher also included the original length version by popular demand, but did not dub. On my DVD set (PAL, 25fps) the lengths are: 46:22 for the cut version 51:28 for the full length episode

An interesting thing that is mentioned in expanded media is that the Time Lords went to war with the Racnoss way before the events of the show. It's soft canon but still cool
When I went to Wales 7 years ago besides the Doctor Who Experience I did go to Roald Dahl Plass which Torchwood's HQ is underneath as well as this historic village/museum called St. Fagans where they shot "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood" at.

The best part about this special is that it shows why it is so important that the doctor has a companion to travel with. He is carrying so much weight, he basically still has PTSD over the time war and with recently losing Rose, he gets lost in his thoughts and emotions. Like Donna said, he needs someone to tell him to stop. Never forget, in the first Tennant special he gave the alien a chance to surrender and when he attempted to backstab The Doctor, he killed him with no hesitation. Then the time he spent with Rose in series 2 seemed to really help balance him out. The companions seem to both help him heal and keep his mind distracted. Also I think it is awesome that you are watching Torchwood in tandem with Doctor Who. If you are trying to follow the chronology of the show, then you will want to watch the season 1 finale of Torchwood before hitting Series 3 episode 12 on Doctor Who.
Yay, DW reaction! I do like how you’re reacting to Torchwood (particularly when it gets consistently good in Series 2 and Children of Earth) but DW Series 3-4 are some of my favorites of David Tennant’s Doctor and DW overall

Fun Christmas special, with good moments, great companion/dialogue of Donna. No other reaction seen shows the kids even though it's a funny moment. Yeah I had been in an SUV with 2 extra seats once so it was 7 in the back storage area. It's possible. Aliens don't need human concepts of teeth brushing. XD
Couldn’t go back on a personal time line . . . Because if you go back and change something you wouldn’t get to the point where you meet the time traveler and go back and change things. It’s a paradox thing.
"Why are they always dressed as Santas?" Because otherwise you wouldn't be able to tell that it's a Christmas Special. The 'Christmas' bit is always quite surface level with the Tennant ones. This is probably his best one, though - and it's Tate that makes it. I was gutted when she turned his offer to travel with him down at the end.
