  • These commercials aired on ABC on December 31st, 1981. Happy New Year!
    1. NBO
    2. Promo for "That's Hollywood"
    3. "Nightline" will not be seen tonight...
    4. "NY Rockin' Eve '82" Intro
    5. Dr Pepper (These ads were popularized by an ad campaign starring actor David Naughton. After he appeared nude in the film "An American Werewolf in London" he was let go)
    6. Nice 'n Easy
    7. "NY Rockin' Eve '82"
    8. Sugar Free Dr Pepper
    9. TV Spot for "Taps"
    10. Comtrex
    11. Promo for "Code Red", "Today's FBI" and "Running"
    12. "NY Rockin' Eve '82" (I just had to include a bit of Rick James singing "Superfreak")
    13. TV Spot for "Modern Problems" (Chevy Chase's face covered in cocaine..."rated PG". Apparently this film was heavily recut to avoid an R rating)
    14. Dr Pepper (With Ray Bolger)
    15. Mr. Coffee (With Joe DiMaggio)
    16. Kiss Music from "The Elder" (This was a departure from their previous albums and a huge bomb in terms of sales)
    17. Promo for "Fridays"
    18. "NY Rockin' Eve '82"

Man, the end of 1981. That was an awesome year. I was only 11 years old, and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Rick James was so slim, and good looking back then...damn, this is 40 years old. We can give thanks for the VCR for this. Thanks for the upload.

That first Dr. Pepper ad uses simple camera tricks for its effects, but it's still effective roughly 40 years later.

It was a definitely a thing back in the early 80s. Nightmare on Elm Street and Breakin' 2 shared the same rotating set, I wonder if Dr. Pepper also borrowed it for this commercial?

I was 10, most likely I was asleep until 5 or 10 minutes before midnight, then my parents would wake us kids up so we could watch the ball drop and then go open the door and bang on pots and pans with spoons. You'd just hear everyone banging on cookware throughout the neighborhood, ha!

Dr Pepper (With Ray Bolger)- I didn't know the Scarecrow from "The Wizard Of Oz " became human so he could dance and drink Dr Pepper with those people.

It's amazing how dark and dingy Times Square looks in this footage in comparison to the sanitized megawatt presentations of modern New Year's Eve celebrations. Have a safe one tonight, folks!

2:08 - Did Barry know the camera was on him? He's kind of staring off into space here...

Modern Problems is best remembered for the fact that Chevy Chase was nearly electrocuted while filming a scene with him flying with the aid of multiple wires, and had to be hospitalized for several weeks.

1982 was just getting started in the Bay Area as my beloved San Francisco 49ers were gonna win their first Super Bowl and the beginning of the new dynasty of Pro Football exactly 40 years ago.

Code Red-Nicholas Bradford being the voice of reason
    Today's FBI-Chester Tate running a crime ring
NY Rockin' Eve '82 a)-wonder if Charlie Murphy was in attendance at the afterparty
Fridays-William Shatner as guest host..couldnt top the one with Andy Kaufman
NY Rockin' Eve '82-b) the ball drop just isnt the same w/o Dick Clark calling it

9yrs old 1982, following 1983 , Jan 1st, New Year's, that New Year's Day, my 10th birthday. What a quick 49 years, here we are 2022. But we weren't prepared for the winter of 82, a few weeks later, January 82 WOW. My first decade 1973-83, seven out of ten were in the 70s. Because technically the 80s started , in 81. Wow.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The decade of the 1980’s occurred from 1980-89, and over 90% of the world denominates decades in this fashion.
Just because the year 0 didn’t exist doesn’t mean that we should pretend that the year 1980 is somehow not a part of the 1980s.

I was 5 years old going on 6 in 1982. This is around when my "pop culture" memories really started to kick in - I have vague memories of Scooby Doo and Super-friends in 1979 or 1980, but I distinctly remember the premiere of "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends" in 1981, and from there it was the start of a great 1980's cartoon childhood. Great time to be a kid.
