@@oldradiosnphonographs At a certain point reality shows became their bread and butter and they never looked back. MTV2 was cool for awhile, and only played music videos when it started...but reality TV eventually took over there as well.
MTV VJ Segment-R.I.P JJ Jackson The Greatest Hits Album -that announcer sure is excited MTV VJ Segment-David Lee Roth in the Amazon..that shouldve been a documentary special Twix-with Darnell Williams(Jesse from All My Children) MTV Promo-whatever happened to The Members..Musical Youth is currently part of the"Lost 80s" tour
6:00 "Something to fall back on..." Turns out DLR is a licensed paramedic, and during one of his breaks from VH, he rode ambulances in, I think, NYC. Had a badge with "David Roth" on it, straight headshot, short dark hair... nobody, so the story was told, ever made him.
That Hawaiian Luau with Pat Benatar sounded amazing. It probably still would be today as she’s playing the iHeart Radio finally going to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She (and Paula Abdul) were also the first musical artists my dad introduced to me.
DLR coming back from the Amazon now that probably relieved a lot of MTV viewers back in the day! But I'm loving to see all the 7up ads with Geoffrey Holder again. A-HA-HA-HA-HA!
I think it’s super cool that David Lee Roth was able to go to the Amazon on vacation and no one could reach him. People could truly go off the grid then. He seems to still have a traveler’s high 😊.
4:55 wow I did not know about that, he just went off the grid for a little while?! yeah for those that didn't know, at least my understanding was joe walsh had the spot intiially but then they decided to do it so they got the big sunday spot and joe was moved to a different day? although dave was not on his A game that night but that's a whole other discussion. definitely the most memorable concert I'd ever been to!
“The Celtic Soul Brothers”. That song was the follow-up single to “Come On Eileen” in the US. For the UK (which is the band’s native country), it was the other way around. “The Celtic Soul Brothers” was released in March 1982, and then “Come On Eileen” was released 3 months later.
I really miss the old MTV!!
8:31 - This makes me wish for a Ms. Pac-Man musical. I wish commercials wouldn't make me wish for things I know I can never have.
JJ Jackson, ol’ triple J, he was a cool VJ back in the day, thanks for the upload!
Ah MTV when they played music I loved the og vjays
MTV actually used to play music videos. Crazy, I know.
I always wondered why MTV gave up on videos so early seeing the internet wasn’t very good for streaming until like the Mid-2000s?

“Honey, don’t you know? I’m more than Pac-Man with a bow!”
No kidding. This “girl’s version” of a game is better than the original!
3:22 - "Woman, you know I don't like it when you change candy bars on me!!"

2:15 - "Allow 36 weeks for delivery"?? I think they forgot to put a hyphen in between those numbers.
If you look really closely, I think there's a "/" in between them; I had the same reaction as you. 🙂
4:52 Obviously, David went to the Columbia part of the Amazon.
This is great! Wonderful block of memories!
