For goodness sake’s chaps! 1) hexi in palm of right hand 2) smash block against knee till it (block) breaks. This will hurt. 3) apply issue flameproof matches to hexi crumbs 4) sit back & enjoy hexi telly -fin-
Can listen to James and al all day long. Makes my journeys a lot more enjoyable in traffic and on my breaks, walking the ground. Love your work guys. Thank you. !
Al is absolutely right about smelling the Boche. Having been involved in a few kinetic situations in a previous life IMAX, 4K and Dolby surround sound movies and series can never replicate the odours and taste of smoke etc in your mouth if you were there.
Spent my time in Germany (Goch, Weeze) tracing the Reichswald battlefield. Highlight was finally finding the two huge pillboxes torches by Crocodiles near Goch. Loving the videos.
In the US the national park service protects battlefield conservation, so historians and observers can get an idea of the terrain and buildings that impacted decision making - these insightful on the ground explorations are invaluable to understanding the event. Thanks
As a proud Canadian, I would have liked to hear our guys mentioned in these vids. The only references were in passing, grouping them in with the Brits. Remember, the Dieppe raid in 1942, where the Canadians took 68% casualties, influenced the D-Day planning, allowing it to be successful. Also, if I remember correctly, Canadian troops were the first to reach their objectives on D-Day and in the ensuing days. I did see a Canadian flag in the background of one of the shots, so the French haven’t forgotten us!🇨🇦
These two often mention the Canadians on their podcast and how important and impressive the impact of your home nations fighting men were in those years (which is absolutely fantastic by the way if you've never listened to it)
We're sad as well. Truth be told, we were disrupted by what we can only describe as the French agricultural equivalent of rush hour. Endless huge and noisy tractors meant the tea was cut short.
Why isn't some TV Executive watching these two stars creating absolute MAN MAGIC (does that sound weird?). Considering the crap we are provided on UK tv, Al and James need their own show, come Discovery get your check books out?
For the life of me I can't remember a time when I ever had trouble lighting a hexi block. I don't think I ever witnessed any other Squaddie having difficulty either. Maybe they have changed the ingredients since I left the army last century.
If you didn’t wash your mess tins or mug at Pirbright you would have been running up and Down D lines sand hill until you vomited Mind you, if you hadn’t worked out the way to light hexamine was to use the waxed card box it came in to light d deserve to be 😂
Never in the field of human conflict has so much time seen to be taken by so few to make a brew... 😮 luv the show.😂😂
Once the D-Day Series is done. We need a super cut of James and Al trying and flailing to build their field chairs and brew a cuppa.
You’re on!

And after brewing up, clean off the mess tin with the now used tea bag of course
this series is SO well edited and filmed too! the little anitations and stuff are fantastic

This is the most chilled WW2 docu l have ever seen...brilliant analysis
These two should do more work together, love it.
They've been doing a podcast every week for 5 years

Good stuff!
There is a lot to be said for a BV in our British tanks. Think Messrs Holland and Murray could do with a weekend survival course with Ray Mears.
I would pay money to watch that. I ❤ Ray Mears.
I love the Vertex Dirty Dozen watch James is wearing. Perfect piece for walking the ground.
Watching you too set up those chairs! Way to fun! 🤩 I love these Episodes!
😊 thank you
Thank goodness they were never involved in the Royal Tournament Field Gun competition....

Love the way you cover your subjects the We Have Ways pod cast is amazing
Glad you enjoy it!
This and the pod are brilliant, well done chaps!
Looking forward to your Market garden walks, do you fine gents plan on do other battlefield walks, Italy, Germany.
We'd love to! Please do subscribe and share the videos -- the more the channel grows and is supported the more opportunity we have!
Brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant as usual guys
Good old Hexy TV, the best TV channel ever created.
Every time they get it out, I look at those pristine mess tins and think - I bet _they_ didn't clean 'em after the last time...
@@wessexdruid7598 🤣
Really enjoyed the video mate I love drinking out ww2 canteen cup carry on camping 😂😂 with deckchairs lol but can't wait for the next one

Yet another great video, sory it ended a bit sudden though 👍👍

The hole in the middle of the poncho maybe a clue? I think they tied the belts around it.

the Laurel and Hardy of fieldcraft.
I hope there is a follow up outtakes series 😂
Think we are watching it 😂
In the words of Terry Thomas, ‘it’s an absolute shower.’
That’s ‘ It’s an absolute sharr’.
Zeltbahn, I have one and still have no idea how it goes on!
Get Ray Mears as a guest he can light a fire😀
Right, that's it. Both of you are getting handed a pack of windproof matches at the next WHWFest 😂
For the life of me I can't remember a time when I ever had trouble lighting a hexi block. I don't think I ever witnessed any other Squaddie having difficulty either. Maybe they have changed the ingredients since I left the army last century.
That is a kind suggestion.
Good job these two would have been officers and had a Batman each for the complicated stuff like making a brew or unfolding a chair 🤣
It ended when i was looking forward to tea and chat...
Like dads army at the start 🤣🤣
The Sherman was the Tommy Cooker to the Brits, and the Ronson to the Americans. Lights first time.
Ref HEXI - And to think, even those in the Falklands managed to get it lit...
Al - my sympathy with the fold-up chair! Deck chairs are equally malevolent!
Too kind
Never in the fields of Normandy has it taken so much time to brew by so few
Haha naughty boys, Hexi stoves are totally illegal in the UK now... ;) just as well your in France :D
These are great videos but way too short
Getting a dab hand at erecting the chairs, unlike the hexy 😂
you're supposed to break up the hexi tablet into a few bits and it lights easier haha
How NOT to brew up when in Normandy
Have you not seen #1 & #2??
@wessexdruid7598 yep, slight improvement.....
But not much
Is Hexamine legal in France? I hope you didn't take the leftovers back to the UK 😬
Invest in a Zippo Sirs😂
If you didn’t wash your mess tins or mug at Pirbright you would have been running up and Down D lines sand hill until you vomited
Mind you, if you hadn’t worked out the way to light hexamine was to use the waxed card box it came in to light d deserve to be 😂
Hurry up with the chairs. There's a war on you know Lol. We were still issued those burners in the 90s 🙄
Love your content
Does James have his tea wiv milk, or wivvout?
you really need to invest in a zippo or other wind proof lighter 😂
History still excellent. Field craft STILL rubbish! :-)
Yup!
