Your correct in one way as no one can be 100 percent satisfied. I live in England and could do with a little more income. Other than that, I am happy and without a large income, I would not want to live elsewhere. Where I live, we have the NHS which pays for healthcare, it is very rare we have extreme weather and we have relative freedom as long as we stick to the law. Sure, studying and getting a decent job helps, but being happy in yourself is what matters most. My situation is not perfect, but I am happy and don't have time to be miserable.

As for the United States....I know so many Korean friends living in America who meet a girl there then bring her to the states and many cry having a hard time to adjust or want to go back. Unless they are in a place where there are koreans or in a korean community...it is very difficult. If they are in living in a place where there are no Koreans....many girls just can't handle it. Going out to do errands and everyday things...are very depressing. The service and kindness is not there like Korea. Always experience leaving somewhere feeling treated not the way as expected. It gets heavy but mainly misunderstood. Takes time to adapt.

@LifeMusic As i want to tell you about some stereotypes about Korea. It's true that Plastic surgery is easily accepted by Koreans but that's not popular. Westerners always criticize korean plastic surgery but UN statistics says differently. South Korean is not included in the listh which do the plastic surgery the most. however, so many journals say about so many patients in plastic surgery hospital in Korea. Most of them are Chinese and south east asians. My friend who worked as broker earned money 10000 dollers per month, bringing foreigner customers. Plastic surgery is too expensive for koreans, either because Plastic surgery for cosmetics is not included in social security system. I feel bad that everyone thinks that South Korea is a kingdom of Plastic surgery.

As a Korean high school student born and raised in Korea, I find everyone in Korea thinking 'competition&ranking is very natural, indispensible, efficient because it enables to sort out the most competent' .And some think it is fair enough, so they urge younger people to work hard to the extreme ( due to the experience of past success by extreme effort ) saying "you can do it if you work just a little bit harder." This made sense in the past(when it was able for individual to success from almost nothing) but as the society have developed and became firm, 'Many drops make a shower' became nonsense, nowdays. The phenomenon that fortune of parents descends to their children discourages many of young people in Korea. This kind of change and the lack of empathy also became one the causes of the generation conflict. Anyway, I think that the reason many Koreans are depressed is not only extreme competition, but also the social justification and encouragement to the competition. I could sense people, especially conservative people here unconsciously think 'if only we can develop competence of country, firm, individual, or anything else, some inhuman things are ok." I think this helps to understand some issues in korea.

As someone who started watching Kdramas I could say yes being exposed to S Korea through there has made me have unrealistic expectations in the past as it related to relationships, love and feelings. But the more I got exposed to other types of South Korean material such as the entertainment industry (Kpop) or the dramas that often highlight social issues, such as seniority dynamics,Corruption, low wages, exploitation of workers, models, idols ect. Or when I watch the Asian Boss videos it has really opened my eyes. I think it's normal for one to have idealistic ideas at first about a foreign country but you should try to learn and inform yourself .
Now I still love Kdramas, but I don't overlook the reality of the country and the difficulties people go through. I enjoy Kpop groups while also keeping in mind how they are overworked and sometimes not paid.
I don't think S.KOREA is a fairytale country I just feel like other countries it has its good and its bad aspects.

Many idealize life in America but once they come here, they see how hard life can be. It is great to travel to see the world but sadly that is not always possible as many lack the money and time to do so.
Every country has its good and bad and no country is a fairytale country. However, some countries are clearly better than others like South versus North Korea for example.

I am from Russia and I lived in South Korea city Busan for 7 years. As a Russian who lived and got used to culture and speak fluent Korean Language; Korea is beautiful country with so much potential for living and enjoying life. Korea is very stable and very safe place compare to Russia and Australia in which im located right now. I went to Korean public school yes its very competitive and there is a strong push for be better than everyone to get ahead. Kids study to hard and its kinda killing nation because there is continuous stress that young people carry all their life. Like anywhere else in the world, people fight to live under the sun and want to be rich and have stable future but unfortunately its all hard work that some people dont want to do which kinda falls into category of Music industry that makes people think that they all want to be singers and Kpop stars because its fame and relatively easy "money".
I love Korea, but living there for 7 years taught me many good lessons such respect for elders, culture which is has many good aspects but unfortunately things changing, culture changing with many foreign influences that South Korea trying to absorb and adopt to.

To give only an example, In Suspicious Partner, the prosecutor mentions the high number of rapes over the previous three years, frightening. Also it get boring, not much to do, unless you're in the upper mid salary bracket. Just imagine a place with next to no tech, internet is especially bad, only slightly better than Aust.

However, it depends of which part of Switzerland you want to live due to it's linguistic diversity (italian, french and deutch). People i know said the german part it's better but as a whole Switzerland is one of the most developed country in the world.

If you think about it, not really, New Zealand has half the population of New York City, and located at one of the most remote region of the globe. Government is lazy, if they get off their behinds and spend on technology, it's not hard to be profitable since software is lucrative. A large portion graduating University leaves for Australia, at least there is some finance related work in Sydney/Melbourne. People I know that stayed mostly works in customer service or front end retail roles.

I currently live in NZ and have been since my family immigrated here decades ago. Yes NZ can get a bit boring, we are not really any where near the forefront of technology, but it doesn't mean it's a place that young people can't thrive, succeed and live happily. Each country have industries that are more developed than others and NZ specializes more in dairy, agriculture, food and I guess you could say tourism. If you are a young person with a drive to succeed in some other sectors like the creative sector eg: film, yes there arn't many opportunities here for that and you will probably need to move abroad to further your career. NZ is no where near perfect but the people are generally more genuine, the government cares a fair bit about people's welfare, there isn't really a culture of over-working and most people prioritize a good work-life balance. The environment and scenery is great although we should be working harder to protect it, there is good quality food available and it is generally safer compared to other countries. Most people in the world do not have the financial ability to just pack up and leave their home country, every country has it's flaws and we could all spend more energy in finding out how we can make our own countries better rather than criticizing it or fantasizing about other countries.

I am in my mid twenties, and I left Korea when I was 15. I didn’t know when I was young but as I get older, I really miss korea and living in Canada makes me feel more isolated than before. I think when you are young, you want freedom but as you get old you kept asking questions to discover your identity. Living in Korea require a certain type of personality and knowledge to survive there and the conception of not being the best will be emphasized. However the best thing in life is to find a reason to live. The why to sacrifice and commit. Nothing will satisfy you if you don’t know yourself no matter which country you reside.

For me, personally, I thought the guy in the glasses at 3:25 gave the best answer. Just because you, yourself, can't adapt to the society that you were born in, doesn't mean that you'll succeed in another country when you move there. And just because you do succeed in another country doesn't mean that South Korea, as a whole, is a bad country as well. I know A LOT of Koreans here in LA who moved here for the "American Dream" and ended moving back to Korea after a couple of years because they couldn't find their success here as well. So it really depends on the person whether he/she will succeed in life. Some people have to work extra hard for it and some people with extraordinary luck can just sail through life.
I don't agree with the girl at 7:53 that said that only in Korea you have to work at a big company and such in order to get respect from others, etc. It's the same everywhere you go. I think she isn't very aware of how society is outside of Korea. Even here in the US, it's not all that different. People on top will generally look down on those who are working class or live in poverty.

Nothing wrong with exploring other countries to see where you’d be the happiest & most productive.

the truth of the matter is that koreans have this mentality that one has to be perfect or #1 in terms of looks, job status, education, etc. these unrealistic expectations make it super difficult to live/survive in korea bc although they don't like being judged themselves, they can't help perpetuating those expectations bc they are ingrained into them since childhood. the education system and the job market is especially cutthroat; it's not good enough to be smart, get good grades, and work hard while sleeping less. the "average" korean student would be able to get into a prestigious college in the US and do well, but that's the case in korea. that's why they call it hell because no matter how hard they work and smart they are, nothing's guaranteed for them unless they have special connections or come from a wealthy background.

This is my personal opinion: Before someone decides to move to a foreign country they should try to visit and do an extensive research on the culture. The culture in Korea is VERY different than western countries. What they call manners, for us it's like a wth? Things that for us are somewhat daily life, like getting on an elevator and saying good morning, they don't do that. But then you see that if they're drinking alcohol and there is an age difference the younger person has to turn away so they can drink. Even though these are small things, it's still things. The lifestyle is different as well. For me (I live in the U.S. and have lived in Europe) I consider it's more laid back and relaxed. When I went to Korea I noticed they live a much faster life. Looks like they're always late for something. I liked it for vacation but personally I just couldn't live there. Just thinking about the heat wave this year and not once could I wear a spaghetti shirt (since I was with my husband family) was awful.

Quite a lot of Korean TH-camrs who make videos in spanish (koreans married with spaniards, or koreans who lived in Spain or Mexico for some time) always say they *LOVE* our style of living, more relaxed and less competitive. When I asked my Korean language teacher here in Spain "Why not to live in Korea?", she replied "Are you crazy? You shouldn't". I bet she's one of those "Hell Jeoson" people. Spain is a peaceful place to live, however we have the same problem with getting jobs and a comfortable lifestyle. Many people struggle to reach the end of the month with their salaries. Anyway, cultural shocks would be the worst thing for them, hehehe. We are very straightforward and confront elders or superiors continuously. If we think something is wrong, we defend our positions and don't nod agreeing. That type of strong personality is frightening for them.

I love Korea, not because of the unrealistic standards portrayed in dramas or music videos, but because of the culture and lifestyle itself. I am used to living in a country where violence is something normal, where I can’t go out wearing a skirt without being cat called and I can’t stay out for too long, where most people don’t respect rules and prefer the easy way out. I am not compatible with my country’s way of thinking, and in Korean culture I found a lot of things that I *do* empathize with.
I’ve been to Korea before and, even with my high expectations, Korea managed to surpass every single one of them. Ofc there are bad things, but (just like one of the interviewees said:) I marvel at the differences we have. I’d much rather live in a country where I have to work _super_ hard, instead of living with anxiety as a woman.

I'm from Sweden and I would love to move to Japan or South Korea. I think the grass is always greener on the other side. No country is perfect. Every country has it's problems and when you live in one country you always tend to see the problems in the society. And the country you want to move to always seems like a better place. The thing is that a lot of western countries have problems and once you move here you'll see them and experience the problems.
For example in Sweden the tax is so high so a lot of companies don't want to settle down here which makes it more difficult to find jobs.
Also the crime has gone up and shootings as well.

As one of the ladies in the video mentioned, it is impossible to have a big change now or in a short time. However, with people's awareness of improvement to make a better society Korea could make changes little by little. It is just one's fantasy or desire when people are not satisfied with their current conditions and look for sth better outside of Korea without knowing what exactly happening. Sometime, people shouldn't hesitate to stand up and speak out for what they exactly agree and disagree, and I think that the citizens in Korea need to seek for those.
