In Japan, the issue of senior poverty has become increasingly prominent amidst the backdrop of an aging society and economic challenges. As the population ages and birth rates decline, the strain on the pension system and social support mechanisms has intensified, leaving many elderly citizens vulnerable to financial insecurity.
This video delves into the complex factors contributing to senior poverty in Japan, examining the impact of the low birth rate on the sustainability of pension funds and the broader Japanese economy. We explore how rising housing, food, and utilities expenses have compounded the financial burden on seniors, making it increasingly difficult for them to make ends meet.
Drawing from recent news and government statistics, we shed light on the stark realities faced by elderly individuals in Japan, highlighting the urgent need for policy reforms and social initiatives to address this pressing issue. Join us as we delve into the challenges of senior poverty in Japan and explore potential solutions to support the well-being of the elderly population.

In a culture which supposedly respects its elders, this is especially shameful. Their government needs to make age discrimination illegal. Shame on them.

Shouldn't cleaning after dead at least be subsidized by the government so landlords would stop refusing renting to seniors?

My local Sheriff's department has retired deputies who will go and check on the elderly. If the elders need social services, food assistance, small home repairs, etc they have volunteers who will help.

You can't save wealth as a society. This is only possible on an individual view. Saving money is extremely bad for an economy. So few understand the difference between micro and macro economy

I believe in this less and less as the years go by. These Japanese elderly will be our future for a lot of us currently working individuals. Sky high costs of living makes savings or even some little investments mean nothing by the time we get old.

Wrong. Your earnings are limited only if you collect Social Security before full retirement age, which for most younger seniors is age 67. If you choose to collect earlier, you are locking in a lower benefit amount and can only earn up to about $ 22,000 a year. Any earnings over that amount will reduce your social security $ 1 for every $ 2 earned. If you're low income and still have a job at 62, it's advisable to wait until you reach full retirement age to maximize your social security benefit to avoid living in poverty in your old age. Also try to use these last working years to save; you can invest in an IRA I believe until age 73.

A pension ( or social security in the US) is never going to be enough for most people. This is why we must teach people that they must save money from the beginning of their work life. Your goal should have an everything paid off before you retire, house, auto etc. and your savings should be as much as possible. You have a choice…barely live or retire with the ability to do the things you love.

This is the trap that many generations were told to fall into. Seriously.
In the States, we're supposed to work x# of years until it's "time" to retire and then depend on social security to take care of us.
    WRONG!!!!
If you're 55 and under, please listen up!!!
Social security was/is meant to be a backup if things didn't/ aren't going so well for you financially. It was NEVER meant for you to live cushy. And it never will.
If you want to live a decent life when you get older, SAVE NOW! Invest NOW!!! Don't plan on depending on that because it probably won't even be there when it's your time to collect. Either that, or you'll retire, find out how how little that money goes, and are forced to work until you kick the bucket.
Consider this video your wake up call.

Sure, invest now and watch the stock market crash just before you retire. Or to be on the safe side, put your money in a 1% interest CD. Or just put the money in a savings account and watch it get absolutely destroyed by inflation.

    • @8ofwands300
      @8ofwands300 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@dirremoire okay pal. Don't save anything because of what might happen and consign yourself to a penurious old age. ( Where have you been? The stock market is booming and anyone worried it's going to crash, can sell out and take their profits. Many savings accounts are yielding 4% to 5%; CDs still in the 4.5% range. So I suggest you stop watching the gloom and doom catastrophe YT channels, and start saving and investing.)

    • @llothar68

@8ofwands300 you don't understand the thinks. The stock market is just driven by the liquidity of the money that is pushed into it by government and you. This can't go on. There is a profit to capital ratio of hundreds. Meaning that there is no productional capacity behind the stock market. It is a bubble
