  • We planted SNAPDRAGONS in our flower farm! Grown from seed indoors under grow lights, we first hardened them off outdoors and then planted them in a 5' by 22' bed. We are growing two varieties here: Madame Butterfly and American Seed (Dollar Tree) which is simply named "snapdragons." It will be interesting to see which seedlings perform best. Next, we laid down soaker hose in lieu of drip tape, which we hope to get later. The snaps are planted in a tilled bed topped with compost. We used an auger to drill holes and added amendments (including Earth Science worm castings to each hole). Are you growing snaps this year? Please tag us with your photos on instagram @DickandHope. We would also love to hear from you in the comments of this video.
5/20/2021-we now have an update video out on how these are doing! • UPDATE on SNAPDRAGONS ...

I live in zone 8b in Alabama. So happy to watch you plant your snaps. I started mine in a milkjjug outside since Feb 1st. I over seeded and had to separate them and repot them . I wonder how long it will be before I put them in the ground. yours look great! I will be watching you and Dick . this is the 1st time I found you. what zone do you live in and what state?

They like the cool so all the better if you can get them in the ground before it heats up. We are in Texas zone 8a.

We planted ours in early spring, before our last frost date. This is after they had been growng inside from seed for several weeks. They self seed and may come up in late fall, winter, or early spring. They will survive the cold well. So if you have them one year, the chances are good that you will have them another year from re-seeding. Try to duplicate nature's timing if you are seeding them yourself. We have not collected any seeds but will let you know if we do!
