Ive seen a billion drone videos, and I must say I really enjoyed this one. The way you did them, the humor, all of it was a great experience. Thanks guys.
Cool recovery, brilliant expedient method, thanks for sharing. In RC racing we use a zip tie on the electrical connector, even with the contacts spread, it might still vibrate loose. Yes, we cut the zip tie every time we need to charge, replace with a new one when reconnected.
Amazing search and rescue video, and the trusty old Phantom 4 comes to rescue. It’s still an amazing drone. I’m glad you were able to recover your FPV’ drone. Another great video Ken, and thanks for sharing.
When i started running double straps, i stopped ejecting batteries. So many crashes since i switched and haven't lost a single one! Should be room to run two in that skyliner.
With Ken it is always an adventure!! I was on the edge of my seat. Some of the best videos are unintentional and this is one of them. Bring the wire to Mindfield it might come in handy on the water tower.
Exactly what I was thinking too! Obviously, I'm glad it didn't.. that would've made an interesting photo to post on your wall Jim! But then again, I could dust off some of my nursing skills on Ken. Hmmm.
Ken, great video! Sorry for your loss (session 5 & SD card) but you as always make the best of the situation at hand, thank you for sharing 😉 bravo for the phantom too! 👍🏻
Ken, thanks for ALL your videos. I find them very helpful and entertaining. I got my first drone in January of this year with Uncle Joe's money, a Phantom 4, and I'm really enjoying the hobby. John in Central New York
I almost commented with "oh hell no.... why don't you just rig a wire or something on the other drone" before I finished watching the whole video. lol!
See, Ken, regardless of how much you enjoy flying those FPV drones, you always have to go back to "Old Reliable Phantom 4!" Now that was some great drone piloting in action, my man!
That was awesome. At the very instant I was thinking to attach a wire to the phantom you started talking about it. Great skill to actually pull it off !
I’ve tried the phantom-lets-strap-sticks-and-poles….. I’ve even got the video from another drone perspective of it trying to just compensate to hover; and it would rock VIOLENTLY back and forth; almost uncontrollably! Then, on second approach (yes, surviving the first fall of 30 feet into tall grass), tried the coat hanger on the front. Finally got the thing hooked; then as I pulled down carefully with the phantom, the wire bent upward, impeding my prop; sending both drones into the tree. Oy. Another great video my friend! Love from Kansas City!!
We need a claw device that we can attach to our drones then we can grab it and pick it up. Maybe different lengths would be great aswell lol. Good Job Ken. 👊💯
There's a small one on Amazon you can use. We've used it to get quads out of trees. Avoid the large ones. www.amazon.com/dp/B083HW53CD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_Q3VVMYV2PZ7Q1JGH5ZA5 There's also one on Thingiverse.com that you can 3D print.
You could create a little net and attach it to the underside of the rescue drone that would snag or hook to the drone being rescued. Nice video and good job retrieving your drone
Fun to watch. Adding to the comments on the XT60 connector. If you select the right size silicon wire ... remove the wire and cut a very short piece of silicon and fit between those prongs ... works great.
That was probably your best solution. It was pretty busted up so the battery cells were probably dented or torn and the battery would end up in a bucket of salt water for a total discharge.
Storytime: At the FAA protest in Washington D.C. Ken accidentally stepped on my DJI Osmo. Immediately, without even knowing the extent of the damage he said he would buy me a new one if he broke it. Super stand-up dude. Luckily there was nothing wrong with it, but it was also my own dumb fault for laying it on the ground at a protest -- so, I would not have asked him to pay to fix it or replace it. The part where Ken said he would give Keith one of his drones if he messed his Phantom up reminded me of that. Thanks for being awesome, Ken!
Hej Ken Great Job, your humor will make you an old man, even your unlock you can make fun out of - nice creativity to save the FPV - I wouldn't see you do the climb to the top! Nice entertainment except for the GoPro. Thank you I'm waiting for your next stunt!
Yeah...I tried working at a grain elevator similar in size and design one summer years ago....and summarily quit after being told to climb the top via an exterior (although caged) ladder...I like flying from the ground. Cool recovery!
@@KenHeron off topic to the recovery video, but I live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. There is a national airguard base and civil aviation airport here: identifier MRB in class D airspace; 80% of which is zeroed out according to LAANC maps. The airport doesn't even support the capability. I have approached the administrator personally and get shrugged off, so I apply and receive airspace authorizations to fly in the remaining 20%...my question to you is if you know how get more flyable area? If I try a waiver application, what do you think I should say in terms of safety precautions? The base Flys C 17s very, very low over populated areas weekly. Have you run into anything like this before? I would appreciate it greatly if you could help. Thank you. And would love to fly with you sometime. Yes, I have my 107 certificate.
I use velcro tape on the top plate and on my batteries and 2 battery straps. I have never ejected a battery since I starting doing that. Piss on that sticky rubber stuff. Maybe a 7 or 8 inch quad for rescues. Or a phantom is you have one.
I was worried that your wire harness was going to get snagged on the FPV drone and not want to let go. Do you think the P4P would've been able to fly with that other drone hanging on? Might have been a slow, controlled descent. Glad it worked out as it did.
Another tip so you do not have to keep bending the prongs on your xt60. Put a piece of silicone wire sheathing in the middle of the prongs and it will stay tight.
No way i woulda ever done that lo ok, much rather comb up there than drop the poor drone 120 feet!! Was hoping it wouldn't work lol, but surprised the drone still works. Great video, as always!
Could've potentially fixed that sd card enough to get files off of it with some soldering skills. I've done it in the past. Just making you aware in case you happen to wreck and break a card again. The data might be recoverable so, keep that broken card!
Great rescue mission Ken. Would have been cool if the sd card would have survived. May they rest in pieces, I meant peace. You have a talent for even making the worst of time very entertaining. Keep up the great work.
