I heard them do this something like 20 years ago. I was already a Clive and Christine fan, but my god were they good that night.

Love this version. Very heartfelt. Does complete justice to a beautiful song from Mr. Gene Clark.

Such aching sadness. I LOVE IT! Thank you Gene Clark for writing this song, and thank you RT & Co. for covering it.

RT and Company?! Clive Gregson is a master in his own right!

The same line up did a version of Hickory Wind which is now my favourite of all time . . . . .

I seem to remember Thompson& Co. also playing another Byrds tune with a completely opposite meaning, "And I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better when You're Gone", with the Gregson/Collister version of his touring band back in the 1980s. This would have likely been during the tour to support Daring Adventures, or Across a Crowded Room.....

Lovely song - they almost get a David Crosby harmony here.

Love this. Do you happen to have them doing Hickory Wind? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Having read the comments through (and checked out one of the original composer's recordings) I'm a bit sad to hear RT attempt this. The original has a lot of detail both in the vocal harmonies and in the instrumental, and to be honest this cover seems a bit wooden in comparison - but then I got more used to the thick palette used in latin american music and Gene Clark definitely has some first- or second- hand heritage in that area, a lot of latino has native american derivation in it.
Hearing this does not cause me any loss of respect to Richard's work but I'd prefer not to have had the opportunity. RT's own catalogue IS without peer, good luck, Sir!

This is all very well but Richard loses the sense of the words which are half the song.

      Real music has imperfections …

Sounds like a bloody madrigal delivered by some mead besotted minstrel in the court of Henry V111. Lucky for Thompson he wasn't a 16th century man. He'd have met the same fate as most of the King's wives. This is certainly the most deplorable take on a Gene Clark gem as any fan could possibly imagine.

Well at least give him some credit for trying to make it different, the whole point of covering someone else's song is precisely that.He does it justice in his own particular way.

Yes Roger I guess because he is a besotted minstrel, Roger Mcguinn has performed with him over the years. David Hidalgo, David Byrne, Henry Kaiser have all played and or paid tribute to Richard as has Joni Mitchell who helped produce a tribute lp to Thompson and Richard returned the favor by playing 2 "shoddy" versions of Black Crow and Woodstock . I guess all these folks know zip about music eh Roger. No Richard is not David Crosby but he is one hell of a singer especially live
